All that glitters is not gold

Laiatanese Consulate
Eastrovia

Laiatan had finally gotten its delegation to East Malaysia, though the delegates had changed due to the ongoing conflict in Dveria. Ambassadors Aristarkh Varlamovich Izmaylov and Violetta Dmitriyovana Rybakovana had been sent in place of the leaders of the federal legislature. The black SUV carrying the two ambassadors was allowed through the gates by consulate security staff, and the driver parked the SUV in the designated spot. Izmaylov and Rybakovana exited the SUV, laughing a bit as they walked into the consulate.

“Aristarkh Varlamovich, you’re too much sometimes.”

With a grin, the young lupine male nudged his equally young female colleague. “That’s what my girlfriend tells me, Violetta Dmitriyovana. Also calls me an idiot, but she does it out of love.”

“She’s not wrong,” his colleague replied with a laugh, the two of them showing their ID cards as they entered the consulate.

“Right on time,” Aristarkh said, looking down at his watch before covering it with his sleeve again. “So, let’s get ourselves settled and check out this city.”

After the two settled into their temporary office and living spaces within the consulate, they met up in the lobby and returned outside to the waiting SUV.

The Fourth Imperium Consulate
Embassy Row

Duncan looked out of the bulletproof glass of The Fourth Imperium’s consulate window at black SUVs pulling into the nearby Laiatanese consulate. He caught a glimpse of the ambassador’s faces as they entered their consulate, and he made a mental note so he could possibly introduce himself and Moneo later. Just as they made their way inside, Moneo took his lips off a bottle of water long enough to tell Duncan that he had a private message. Duncan made his way to the screen and read the message. He made sure to turn his back to the doors and windows, even Moneo, as he typed his reply.

With the message encrypted and sent through the secure channel, Duncan told Moneo to get ready to take a stroll.

Somewhere in Eastrovia
John Beckett sat gently on the foot of the bed and tied his shoes, careful not to disturb the sleeping woman lying on the other side. There was the faintest whirl of electric motors, as he stood. He buttoned his shirt; the gray carbon fingers of his left hand stood in stark contrast to tanned skin of his right. Beckett grabbed his navy blue jacket, the medals hanging on the left breast clanked on the foot the bed, causing last night’s companion to stir. Before she knew it, the door to the hotel room closed and the Marine was on his way to the conference.

RE: Diplomatic Conference Invitation

Dear mr. Briggs,

It is with great enthusiasm that we accept your invitation regarding the East Malaysain Diplomatic Conference. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to parley with a neighbouring country of ours and surely we will find mutual interests to discuss.

Our President, Edgar Erle and I will be attending this conference ourselves, as a sign of good faith and trust. I am sure we can make the proper security arrangements.

Acceptable menu items, if available and appropriate, are roasted boar or stag with French fries or baked Pax Fruites.

“They are almost on us!” Agent Omega-01 yelled as he threw another explosive out the car window as Jennifer Ward was trying to evade their attackers. When tracking the last known signal of the missing EMIA agent, they had apparently found the headquarters of the SLA.

“I know, I know. We’re gonna have to ditch the car. We’re almost like setting targets!” she yelled as another explosive was launched at the car and she slammed on the breaks then promptly accelerated after it went off. Up ahead she seen a fork in the road but only the road to the left was clear because she would see that they chopped down trees. It looked to be pretty straight and she knew it was there chance to ditch the car.

She pushed the car to its maximum, she could see it was overheating a little, which she suspected was from being hit a few times. After less than a minute, she pulled the car into the ditch, which she and Omega-01 jumped out of the car and grabbed their weapons and supplies from the trunk then ran into the forest. They would hear the enemy forces approaching them and the gunfire that was pointed in their direction. They fired their energy weapons back as they tried to evade then, which they were not looking a head since their scanners said no one was in that direction until they realized the ground started to slant which at that point they tried to stopped because she forest shouldn’t have a sudden drop but it was too late, they started to slide until they hit the bottom of what they figured was just a cave or put. Luckily it looked like they were no longer being followed it seemed and they looked at each other for a moment.

“What the hell,” Jennifer started, “and what is that godforsaken smell?” as she collected her scanner from the ground. It was very dim where they fell but she was able to adapt pretty quickly.

Agent Omega-01 was doing the same and seen the body and started to scan it. “Ward.”

“Wha… no,” she said as she dropped to her knees when she seen what was left of Julian Moore but regained herself and they started to scan the body. “The body is preserved better than what I would have expected. It could be because of pit.” She moved closer to the body to get a better look. “His throat is cut. He didn’t get here on his own… but it almost looks as if all the energy was drained from his…” She stopped and looked at Omega-01 and she would see he was giving her a knowing look and she started to scan above them and she slowly stood and reached for her energy weapon and knives.

“We need to get out of here,” he whispered to her and showed her his readings. They were not alone and they had life signs above them in the pit that was clearly dug out and trees were used to construct a dome to make it so dark.

“Agreed. But there is only one way out of here and I’m shocked we didn’t wake…” she heard the movement with a roar and she with Omega-01 dropped to the ground, both holding their heads in pain.

The children could sense the Malay that fell into their hive-pit. They hungered for their energy, they tried to hold their urges as mother slept but it was futile and they roared and the hive mind come to full force and they dropped from the top of the dome to the floor surrounded their prey. ‘Hunger. We must eat. No mother does not allow. We must eat. Hunger. No. Yes.’ The hive mind kept going back and forth as their prey had partially recovered from being overcome by their telepathy.

‘No!’ Mother roared to the hive mind and dropped from her perch and protected the Malay. It was a battle between her and the rest of her hive, a few of her children tried to move forward but she hissed and clawed them. ‘YOU WILL OBEY ME!’ She screamed in the hive mind and roared. Slowly her children crawled up the walls and she “looked” at the two souls as she walked around them in a protective fashion as they were recovering from the effects of being so close to her hive’s mind.

Omega-01 was the first to recover, slowly setting up, checking on Jennifer and helped her up to a seated position. They both looked around and realized only one Harbinger was there but it was circling around them. “This one is different. It is so much larger than any we have seen before. Has to be 7 feet if it stood up but they always crouch.”

Rubbing the sides of her head, “Maybe it is like an alpha male, you know…”

‘I am no male. How dare you child. Don’t you know your mother when you see her? I am of the first queen.’ Mother “said” with a growl as she stopped circling them.

“Wait. You can understand us? Speak to us, in our mind?” Omega-01 said with a shocked look at Jennifer.

‘Yes. We tried a long time ago but we are suffering from a virus. We need the cure so we can get off this forsaken world.’

“If you let us go, I can speak with Empress Jung to see if we can do that,” Jennifer said trying to see if she could get a foothold over the creature.

‘Do not mistake me for a fool, child. I must ensure the survival of our race.’

“Our race?” she asked.

‘It would be impossible for you to understand but I will tell you. We are an ancient, a term from known original races and Malay are simply evolved versions of us, the third to be exact. I carry the mind of the first queen that is stored in the hive. I know all that has happened and all that could happen.’ mother “said” as she resumed her circling of them.

Clearing his throat Omega-01 spoke, “why do you need the cure?”

‘We suffer from the same virus that altered the genetic structure of Malay DNA. The second race poisoned us because they are… devious. I am able to control my urges because of my age but my children can’t. If we get cured then we will be able to leave this place and connected with Azahata once again.’

“You know of her?” Jennifer asked, starting to feel very confused.

‘Yes, she is the other half of me. I am of the dark and she is of the light. We are destined to unite together as she foretold. She has become the fourth and another will follow her steps to naturally evolve. She will united our people,’ mother paused for moment “looking” up at her children then back at the two souls.

“We can’t get the cure if we are here. There is a research facility, do you know of it?” Jennifer asked.

‘Research. If that is what you wish to call it. Yes.’

“They should have the cure there but humans have taken over this area. If we could go to that and get…” she tired to explain what she could do but was promptly interrupted.

‘I will send children to get what your were thinking of then you will give us the cure. Afterwards I will allow you to leave but we will meet again at The Straits for the treaty.’

“What treaty?” Omega-01 asked with an arched eyebrow.

‘No more questions,’ was all she replied and the three of them waited for the children to come back with the needed containers. As they returned, Jennifer and Omega-01 put the needed material together to be able to manufacture the cure. They injected all the “children” of the hive and the queen and seen the immediate change in the creatures behavior as the queen explained that she will have full control over them to rehabilitate them and allowed the two of them go.

Jennifer decided not to retrieve the body of Julian Moore after going over the feasibility with Omega-01 with the daunting task they had in the next several hours getting back to the SLA headquarters. They had already wasted a lot more time than they expected and needed to take care of all the SLA infiltrators. It very early in the morning as they trekked back to start taking care of the guards. She pulled out her favorite weapons to work with, hira-shuriken and smiled.

Between her and Agent Omega-01, they slowly started taking down targets. With Jennifer’s class she rarely ever missed a target and always retrieved her hira-shuriken or any type of weapon she threw. Agent Omega-01 was better at using a traditional sniper rifle when he was in human territories. It was late in the morning by the time they reached the headquarters and bypassed the security systems to enter the old looking warehouse but once they were inside they were shocked to find it had been retrofitted with East Malaysian technology.

“It looks like everyone had packed up and gone,” Omega-01 mentioned as they slowly searched the complex until they reached a what they assumed to be the security/interrogation room and found two unexpected people in different cells, clearly they had been beat on a little.

Jennifer sighed as she entered behind Omega-01, “Jane, what are you and your son doing here?” as she moved to the security system console to see if she could unlock the cells.

Jane stood soon as she seen who entered the room. “We have to get out of here! He said he has this place rigged. It’s Christopher. He’s insane. He kidnapped us. We have to stop him!”

“Where is he?” Omega-01 asked, scanning the room, as Jennifer was trying to get the cells to open.

“No clue. When his men started dropping like flies, he told us that he would see us in hell and left. Whatever he has planned, I think it is going to happen soon from the way he was talking.”

Nik Aker was listening to the conversation, wondering who these people were since they seemed so familiar to him. He felt so confused after he discovered his mom was actually alive. He still felt a little groggy after waking up several hours earlier after being drugged, hoping it was a bad dream and wishing he could kill Christopher; he didn’t care if they were related or not.

“We have less than five minuets Jennifer. I am detected a plasma overload,” as he continued to scan the whole complex.

“Damn it. I need more time to get both cells open,” but she froze when Jane interrupted.

“Get Nik out of here,” she held her hand up before Nik could protest. “I’m sorry son but you must live,” Jane said giving a reassuring smile to him but looked to Omega-01 and nodded.

By the time Jennifer got Nik’s cell opened, they had less than 2 minuets to get out of there. He went to his mom and give her a hug through the cell but Jennifer grabbed him and started to drag him out of the room with Omega-01’s help. “You take care of him Jennifer!” was the last thing any of them heard from her.

They got as far from the building as they could before the building exploded. Tears were flowing down Nik’s face and Jennifer was shedding a few tears herself as they looked at was was left of the building. Nik dropped to his knees crying but suddenly something inside of him snapped and he screamed in rage.

Jennifer was very concerned by what just happened to him because she had never seen any East Malaysian or Hybrid ever go into such rage and loose complete control of their emotions. She didn’t like the feelings Nik was giving off and grabbed him into a standing position to try and read his East Malaysian half but she stepped back when she looked into Nik’s eyes because they were solid black and she couldn’t sense anything. Omega-01 came around and seen the same thing but before anyone could speak Nik passed out into Jennifer’s arms. “Great,” she mumbled, “we will just figure this bit out later. What data were you able to get?”

“Good question…” he pulled his scanner out again and started to go through the data. “Well this isn’t good. She was right… something is going to happen very soon, maybe the next few days. Some sort of attack? The data is corrupted pretty bad. Could be embassy related but we need something more powerful to process the data to see if we can refine it more but we need to get to the research facility. Maybe we can get a message out also. I can’t even connected to AGC servers here.”

Jennifer agreed with him that they needed to make it to the facility, which could take them a day or so depending on if they run into any resistance walking to it. They both carried Nik until he became conscious again but his eyes were still beyond fully dilated and needed some assistance walking with it being light outside. Jennifer was worried about him and couldn’t wait to get him under a medical scanner.

Conference will be starting soon.
I’ve stalled this post to leave room to have people show up.
Nonetheless  buckle up.

Embassy Row, Eastrovia

The heavy-roaring limousine came to a slow stop, barely a few meters in front of the Bachtendekuppen Consulate. Dark windows, black paint and obviously armoured, it wasn’t a particularly inviting scene for any innocent soul passing by. A second car arrived not even a second later and 2 people stepped out. Dressed in dark suits and wearing sunglasses, these were obviously bodyguards. Looking suspiciously down and up the long broad street, one of them slowly opened the thick limousine door.

Finally freed from the confines of the limo, President Edgar Erle stepped out and stretched his back. Before he could finish that move to it’s satisfying end, one bodyguard friendly, but decidedly, steered him towards the door while 3 other bodyguards came out of the building, accompanied by the local Diplomat. Being welcomed, the President entered the consulate, barely having been outside for 10 seconds. Some moments later, the bodyguards escorted a second official, Alas Remosi II, in to the building. The cars drove off.

Upon entering, Remosi saw that the President was being escorted to his chambers, which would no doubt have been thoroughly prepared.

Turning himself towards the Consulate’s diplomat, who was waiting for him in the hall, he said “Inform Mr. Briggs of the East Malaysian Foreign Affairs & Diplomacy Department that we have arrived”.

Director Briggs was finishing putting the reading materials and nameplates around the conference table as the server staff was setting up for the informal lunch. The conference was starting around 1:30PM and he knew many of the representatives would be arriving within the next several minutes. Glendale had planned for her to be the last to enter the room which at that time he would take his leave and head back up to his office. He didn’t mind being excluded from the meeting because his office was on the top floor of 10 story part of building that had a great view of the government district and of the downtown skyscrapers.

He took one last look at the room before he gave the go-ahead that leaders could start coming in if they wanted to start going on the different reports he had put down. They mostly were about petroleum pricing, car exporting deals and other minor things such as water or modern technology deals. This would be the first time Glendale wanted to have such a informal meeting from what he knew from his predecessor and of her personally. He wasn’t going to ponder of it for too long but he was interrupted before he would be able to collect his thoughts by one of the server staff saying they had an issue with one of the meals over some missing spice and quickly went down the hall to the kitchen to make sure they found the ingredient or he would have to run and get some.

And so it begins…

1:15 PM Eastrovia Local Time

Embassy Row
Eastrovia, East Malaysia

Duncan and Moneo’s stroll nearly ended before it began when two blacked out limousines roared past them as they walked down Embassy Row, but now they were much more aware of two way traffic, which was something they had never experience in the Imperium. Along the way to the Diplomatic Imperial Offices, they passed the kiosk they had been frequenting, and the attendants waved. Over the past few days, the pair had become their best customers. In front of the offices themselves, they saw a myriad of individuals in almost every variety of uniform imaginable walking in and out of the building, and the duo was quick to join the throng as they made their way inside.

Once inside, Moneo made a beeline for the elevator, but Duncan took a quick look around until he saw a door marked “Stairs”. He called out to Moneo, “Majordomo!” Not only did Majordomo Atreides turn his head, but a few other people who were most likely used to being addressed by that particular title did, as well. After the moment of slight confusion and embarrassment for all involved passed, Moneo turned around and headed back towards Duncan.

“What is it, Master Idaho,” Moneo ask him, somewhat perturbed. Duncan indicated the stairwell, and Moneo almost imperceptibly rolled his eyes as he followed him through the door before shuffling up the five flights of stairs. When they reached the fifth floor, there was a functionary there to greet them, as they entered the conference room.

After entering the room, Duncan glanced at the clock on the wall and made note of the time. “If you’re not early, you’re late,” he told himself, which only reinforced his training. They were the first delegation there, but there was still the stray server running to and fro. Moneo was already reading the nameplates laid across the table, and he soon found one which read “Mr. Duncan Idaho” next to the plate that read “Mr. Moneo Atreides.”

“Over here,” Moneo said to Duncan as he sat down. He was already sifting through the materials placed at every seat by the time that Duncan made his way around the table and into his seat.

Embassy Row, Eastrovia

Relaxing in the back of his armoured limousine, President Edgar Erle was staring out the little window, once more admiring the gigantic boulevard of Embassy Row. Eastrovia was quite the city and it was the first time he had ever been there. The conference was a golden opportunity to strengthen diplomatic ties with a powerful nation close to the homeland. He was curious about the coming conference.

A few minutes later, the Bachtendekuppen convoy came to a stop.

Following his bodyguards’ movements and instructions, the President was quickly guided towards the entrance, being joined by Alas Remosi who had stepped out of the second limousine. The whole group was welcomed by some staff and was walked through the halls towards the conference rooms. A few moments later, they arrived at what seemed to be a large bright room with a nicely prepared conference table, full of documents.

The President and Remosi entered.

Trusteeship Cabinet Chambers, Aelitia

Prime Minister Robert Godefroy sat among his Ministers in the lounge room they all seemed to prefer over the formal meeting room. The comfortable room was much warmer than the other, and better business was done out here. The small skylight in the center of the room allowed a lance of sunlight to illuminate much of the oval room.

“I do believe with the commotion in the Military right now, the President will be delegating more tasks to us in the coming weeks.” Announced the portly Minister of Health during a lull in conversation.
“Yeah, right.”, “Maybe when Aelitia City sinks into the Keigan.” Various Ministers replied. Robert simply nodded.

“The possibility is there, of course.” Robert explained, “But unlikely. For now we will concentrate on our own matters until that time comes. Trustee Wescott, you are the next on the speakers’ list.”

An average woman with a short blonde bob exchanged her coffee for a packet of files laid on the table before her. Clearing her throat, “Thank you Trustee Godefroy, I will make the report short. We have received a small number of communications from nations in the region. Some have requested Diplomatic recognition, and others have invited us to state events. Most notably of all the letters is a short piece from East Malaysia.” Short groans and interested looks were made at this. “I believe we should go, and this could be an opportunity for us to get our agenda to a real player in the Region-”
“Maybe even a trade deal!” The Minister of Finance and Trade broker her off mid-sentence.
“Rest assured, Trustee, the possibilities are numerous.” The Prime Minister gave the man a muted glare.

Yvonne Wescott took a moment to recover from the interjection, forcing her glasses higher on her face. “I move that we suggest a temporary Consul to East Malaysia to accompany the Presidential Adviser for Foreign Policy on this trip. Someone who we can be sure will represen our interests.” A second came from the Health Minister, and quickly passed a vote despite the Prime Minister voting against.

“It is done then. We will suggest a temporary Consul to East Malaysia to the President’s Office to go on this trip.” The Prime Minister snapped his folio closed and stamped to his office. Once inside, he fished out his phone and left a message to the President’s Personal line.
“Good morning, Your Most Extreme Highness. I would like to personally inform you that Cabinet has voted to attend an East Malaysian conference. The Presidential Adviser on Foreign Policy is expected to attend with Myself; and further to this is my request to be names temporary Consul to East Malaysia for the duration of the conference. Thank you, and good day sir.”

[hr]

That afternoon, the Prime Minister was en route to the “Oceanic Airport” via Presidential helicopter. The ‘airport’ was really the only fairly modern aircraft carrier in the Aelitian Fleet. It found much better use under previous Administrations as the West Coast’s only international airport.

He would meet up with the Presidential Adviser aboard the carrier, and would then board a private plane to East Malaysia. They should be there with time enough to spare for dinner, the Prime Minister was assured by an absent minded co-pilot.

Embassy Row, Eastrovia

The black SUV departed the Laiatanese Consulate down the road from the from the Diplomatic Imperial Offices. The two ambassadors had spent quite a bit of time in the general area, taking in the city - the two were practically tourists with bodyguards from the Federal Security Service. The SUV continued down the road, flanked by a black sedan with Laiatanese diplomatic plates, carrying additional FSS agents.

It didn’t take long for the SUV to arrive, and the ambassadors and two agents disembarked the vehicle. The two black vehicles pulled away from the front, parking nearby. The ambassadors and agents walked into the building, following the directions of the staff. The group headed down the hallway and into the conference room.

Violetta and Aristarkh found their designated spots to sit, taking their seats and organizing their documents.

Beckett walked into the lobby with a crisp gait, the result of a long military career. He was the entirety of the Grand Pacific’s delegation; enterages and Tsinuk haka were reserved for governors and chieftains. He smirked at the thought of a bloodcurdling warcry ringing throughout the lobby and wondered how the vulpine responded at the Kerilo meeting. He removed his cover and entered the workroom, quickly finding his place and began thumbing through the prepared reports.

Ambassador Majoros soon arrived too to the conference, in the embassy’s car. He arrived alone, as he felt no need to bring security with himself. After all, he knew, that every other delegate would bring a whole army of guards armed to the teeth with them, so the place was more than secure, and he didn’t want to burden himself with some goon with a gun. He went in to the conference room and took his place.

1:28 PM Eastrovia Local Time

Brendon looked through the open door of the conference room and seen most of the guest had arrived and the meeting would be starting actually almost on schedule but Glendale was still in a meeting at the Imperial Palace and might run between five to ten minutes late. He looked down at the last name plate he needed to put down and smiled, they were going to love this one. He moved into the conference room and addressed the group of representatives as he put the name plate at the head of the table.

“Good afternoon, I’m Director Briggs and I am delighted that you were able to make it. Before we get started I just wanted to let you know that the meeting will start very shortly but with a minor change of who will be leading it. So please feel free to talk among yourselves until she gets here. I will be dropping by again towards the end to finish up any questions. Thank you.”

As soon as he entered the room he was gone and on the way to his office in the other side of the building. They all thanked him for letting them know but he didn’t think any of them payed attention to the name plate. These were the times he wish he could listen in to the group when they noticed it he chuckled to himself as he entered the elevator.

Dear Laura,

From the first time I caught a glimpse of you in high school, I knew I loved you. We have been inseparable ever since I got the courage to ask you out.

You could say our view of the world is light night and day. I believe we live in a very cruel world and from my view the East Malaysian control has made it worse for us. I know that you would disagree with me and say it will just take time for us to understand what the East Malaysians bring to the table. You always tell me the future for our children’s children will be very different than ours. I can’t accept that. I want our children to grow up in a safe, peaceful environment.

What I am about to tell you… just understand what I have done is not for you or me. It is for our children.

I told you I got an opportunity in the Aerospace Navy – it was all a lie. Everything you seen was forged. By the time you get this letter you will have already figured out what I have done either when it hits the news or when the government starts snooping around.

I have a final request: tell our children the truth when the right time comes of what happened to me. Explain to them our different beliefs and my reasoning but most importantly tell them I loved them. That is why I did it.

I will forever love you Laura,

Rick

Frederick Mason sighed as he signed the letter he was writing to his wife. He would drop it off with a international mail service when it was time to go to the embassy with the bomb he had finished putting together several minuets earlier. He started to mentally prepare himself for the mission at hand and started to countdown the minutes until he needed to head out.

Jennifer Ward felt absolutely disgusting. She was covered in dirt, blood and sweat. She could have killed for a shower or at this point any body of running water. Sadly she would not get any of her wishes. She and Omega-01 had fought off more SLA infiltrators and she figured they would make it to the research facility within an hour if they were able to keep up the current pace.

She took a quick look behind her at Nik Aker, who had barely spoken a word since something inside him slapped. His eyes were still beyond fully dilated but he was able to move in the light without much trouble now. He was looking down and didn’t notice her looking but she did did lock eyes with Omega-01 who was behind Nik and gave a worried expression and glanced at him also.

Ryan Knowles was on his normal day shift on Embassy Row. His normal area of patrol had been changed due to double staffing with a conference going on at the Diplomatic Imperial Offices. He was closer to the building than normal, which he thought was unusual because he always worked around the restaurants/shops in the middle of Embassy Row. Today he was around mostly embassies and other office buildings; still had a mixture of restaurants/shops but not many. So with him being within the two blocks of the Diplomatic Imperial Offices he found it to be very boring.

“June, push all my meetings back by two hours. I’m already late for the conference,” Glendale told her secretary as she walked out of her office, “don’t worry about an escort in the tunnel. I’ll be taking the shuttle over so I can save a little time. I hope Brendon didn’t ruin my surprise or that they won’t see the shuttle.” She stopped and looked at June for a moment because she was giving her a funny look that caused Glendale to laugh.

“Don’t give me that look!” she rolled her eyes and shook her head as she went to the elevator to reach the shuttlepad.

Empress Jung peered into the conference room, which had a good view of the city and even a small part of Embassy Row could be seen through the large glass window.

“Good afternoon!” she said as she moved through the door. Right behind her was the server staff caring the meals and drinks that were prepared for their lunch.

She went to her seat at the head of the table, “I have decided to lead this conference today, nothing too formal, but mostly going over the minor things that relate to our nations working together. I know we all have things we want from each other but I’m sure we can come up with good agreements in this more casual setting.”

She waited until the server staff were done placing everything. She took a sip from her drink and started to cut up her salad while speaking, “I understand that petroleum prices have continued to go up around the region. What if I told you through Petro East Malaysia I can guarantee a flat rate for a few years then after that I could guarantee a variable rate always half of regional standard price?”

“Forgive me, your majesty, but I do not see how that is possible, let alone even in your nation’s best interest.” Robert Godefroy stated as he took his seat, followed by a broad shouldered blonde young man, the Presidential Advisor.

If the proposal was sincere, the possibilities and potential ramifications spun through his head. The president may be very pleased with this savings, considering the looming military purchases.

“Your majesty, there are delegates of oil-producing nations present at this conference. What you are suggesting amounts to a declaration of economic war. How do you expect us to present such a claim to our leaders?”

Glendale let out a chuckle, “please feel free to call me Glendale. We can drop our titles here in private. Now it may seem very hard to believe and you can reference the top packet in front of you but it is very possible. East Malaysia does not rely on petroleum for fuel and our southern territories are becoming less and less reliant on it. For the nations that do produce oil currently I would propose we form an economic pact for our oil-producing nations.”

She stopped for a moment, picking up the top packet and turned through the pages, “if you look at page 13 it will show that Petro East Malaysia has only been operating for the last year as a government joint venture. We have discovered a very large supply of oil in the mountain range that runs along the border with our southern territories. The problem is that we are having a hard time coming to market because we refuse to join any of the groups that have oversight on such matters, we would rather have our own.”

“We have ran the numbers… it will cost us little to extract it and if we sell with an economic pact and we allow companies from our nations to expand in each others respective local markets then that would be beneficial to our economies.” She put the packet down, “just think of the possibilities presented in such an agreement.”

“Hello, my name is – y’know, I have to stop, because I simply love your dress. The color really makes your eyes pop, young lady. My wife used to have one just like it, she…”

Paula Star winced as Matthew Terrus chatted with the receptionist in the entry hall of the Imperial Diplomatic Offices. Escorting Terrus had advantages and disadvantages. The main advantage? No one had tried to kill the former President, and regular diplomatic envoy, in years. That made life easier for Star, the Federal Protection Agent in charge of protecting Terrus. The main disadvantage? The former President could not stay on task if his life depended on it. Stepping up to the counter to cutoff Terrus’ conversation before it went too far, Star addressed the receptionist. “This is President Matthew Terrus, he’s supposed to be attending a meeting with the Empress a few minutes ago.”

Pointed in the right direction, Star led the Terrus entourage that way, the former President just on her toes. Star disliked traveling in such a large group as she felt it made the group stand out more, but it was not her call. The Free Pacific Diplomatic Service handled security for all FPS dignitaries traveling overseas including Terrus when he was acting as a dignitary. The FPDS let Star tag along because everyone knew she was the only one capable of keeping Terrus on task, but she was there solely as Terrus’ guest. She had no weapon, no authority, and no control. And so, Terrus was today escorted not just by Star, but also by the Ambassador of the Federated Alliance to East Malaysia, an aid, and four FPDS Security Officers (with another two in the embassy cars outside that had brought the group here).

As the group walked through the impressive Diplomatic Imperial Offices, two of the FPDS Security Officers finally took the lead. Star rolled her eyes. She’d have berated any FPA Agent that had not taken up that position as soon as the group set off. But alas, she was not in charge…
