All that glitters is not gold

Moneo and Duncan spiced their food generously when it arrived, despite the fact that the food was already spiced. They could tell simply by the aroma that wafted up from the food on their plate, but you couldn’t beat the kick of raw spice on a dish. However, before digging in, Duncan pulled out his portable poison snooper and passed it over their food and drink. No alarm sounded, and they dug in.

They took this conversation about petroleum as an opportunity to eat, as they had very little to say on the subject. The Imperium only used a small amount of petroleum for aviation fuel for their ornithopters, and it has been making great strides in synthetic and biofuels. Even if there was a fuel shortage, the heart scallops would allow the 'thopters to operate in the atmosphere, and a 'thopter hadn’t even been taken into low orbit in recent memory.

Aristarkh and Violetta listened intently as they prepared to eat, their eyes on their food as they listened to Glendale speak about petroleum. The two ambassadors knew the part petroleum played in the Laiatanese economy, both for fueling their vehicles and power plants, as well as leaving quite a bit left over to export.

However, the new Central Laiatan Pipeline and two new tanker terminals were set to be complete by the start of next month, the government expects to see quite a bit more petroleum leave Laiatanese ports. Therefore, any discussion revolving around extremely low petroleum prices would be an issue to be vocal about.

“What sort of economic pact are you talking about?” Aristarkh asked, fingering through the packet to read about petroleum.

Glendale nodded to Matthew Terrus as he quietly walked through the door and took his seat with his associate. Servers were quick to bring their food right behind them and point to were people were looking in at the packet as she responded to one of the Laiatanese representatives.

“What we would propose would be different for each of you. For other petroleum producing nations like yours to join ours in creating a co-operative with equal representation. We would offer the lowest rates to our small membership of nations we consider the closest, relations-wise, to East Malaysia. For nations that want to buy through us we would set a price that would be fair but lucrative. For both producing and non-producing nations we propose allowing companies of your nations be allowed to acquire and/or move into non-strategic markets. Currently it is very complicated for foreign companies to enter our market due to very outdated laws that I want changed.”

She held up the second packet, “the second packet you have will show detailed data that show East Malaysians like human products and will pay more for them and in our human territories you will see they want more human companies expand there. Now I would not ask to make it easier for East Malaysian companies to expand since many of them already have. Phelps Communications, CapCoal Worldwide/Bank and NorthCompany are good examples I can give you of companies that many of your countries already have. Phelps does a lot of communication related infrastructure, CapCoal is backed by us but expanding branches outside of embassies and NorthCompany already has a number of clothing retail locations in tourist areas. By putting people to work that means more tax revenue for our governments.”

Intently listening to the very interesting conversation, Alas Remosi very much liked the nicely roasted meat served by the East Malaysians. As far as these kinds of meetings go, a nice dish of food is certainly a plus.

Meanwhile, President Erle had put the two packets in between them and they read over the summarizing paragraphs. Here and there, one of them would put a question mark in the margins or underline a certain word and phrase. While Glendale introduced the second economic package, Remosi took a pen and put down a ‘V’ on the front page, followed by a small arrow and “export”. President Erle nodded, well aware that the Bachtendekuppen’ economy was very private-business oriented one that would love the prospect of more export possibilities and new markets. Cheap oil/energy would damn well be good for the economy as well.

“Ahem. Excuse me, Glendale, if I may,” started Erle politely, “as some of you may know, Bachtendekuppen has a very free and laissez-faire economy. As such, the government generally does not dictate much direct business. We do however believe in protecting and expanding the freedoms of our businesses and even more than cheap oil, the opening of all our respective markets is an interesting perspective. This would require a large enough group to join though and I’m wondering what time-frame we could expect on changing East Malaysian laws on this aspect? On another note, how would this co-operative work?”

2:13 PM Eastrovia Local Time

“Of course. I would gladly go over that,” Glendale said with a smile. “The law in question is in the process of being rescinded right now, within the next couple of weeks it will no longer exist. Now members of our co-operative will equals for economic benefits but not one of our nations being the leader. We would all be equals and it would be set us as an autonomous organization.”

Lamar Fox looked down the road that was converted essentially to a entertainment district to the local and foreign government officials and relatives on Embassy Row. He could see at the very end was his target. He planned to take his time walking down to the building acting like he was window shopping to not draw suspicions from any of the YYY Police.

Nope. Not forgotten. Just been busy. So just a little short before the storm. <.<

Embassy of East Malaysia - Volkgoroda
Volkgoroda, Laiatan

Frederick Mason stood outside of the embassy checking his watch. He only had moments to take in the busy activity of the embassy. Hotel to the left and bank to the right with the embassy right in the center. He felt a little sorry for them, not because they were innocents but because they were East Malaysian filth. He’s watch started to beep and he walked within the security grid of the embassy quickly as the reflective technology broke down. The last thing he heard was the bomb sirens going off before his device went off.

Eastrovia, East Malaysia

His watch started to beep and soon as he entered the security grid the sirens went off immediately, Lamar Fox cursed under his breath as he could see the security force fields and windows and doors start to close up. YYY Police Officers and related staff started to try and take him down with their weapons but it was too late and his bomb in his backpack went off.

Meanwhile as Glendale was having his meeting answered questions and going over trade information they all heard sirens going off that sounded like a weather warning but she was on her feet right away as the force fields went up and the windows started to close up yelling for everyone to get under the table as the room was being rushed by security personnel. She felt the blast as it broke through the force fields before the emergency systems took over protecting the room. At that moment everything went black as she felt something hit her in the head.

Embassy Security Agency Headquarters
Eastrovia, East Malaysia

Angela Pink had adjusted to her new role quite quickly. She was working on the daily security reports from other intelligence and security agencies in her office, which was located in the back center of the YYY Command Center. She could clearly see every screen that was located on the front wall since they designed the office to be separate with sound proof class. She could hear everything going on but they could not hear anything from her office. She was halfway reading a report from the Eastrovia Security Commission when several alarms went off on one of her consoles that caught her attention because they were bomb alerts she looked at the screen and could hear everyone in the center giving reports to the commanding officer on the floor then a moment later a power surge went through the power grid causing everything to go black for a moment before the emergency systems come on.

She rushed out of her office to see the sensor data before the systems went offline because she knew each of the embassies that had a bomb alerts had representatives at a meeting at the DIO with the Empress. She tried to open communications but the system was not responding. “Computer. Status of GWWT?”

“GWWT is offline. 2:20:45 PM Eastrovia ST, a power surge was detected at Diplomatic Imperial Offices.”

“Computer. Which GWWT services are down - top five priority?” Director Pink asked.

“City shields - Easrovia Island. Communications - East Malaysia. Spaceports - All. Emergency Services - All GWWT. YYY EmbassyNet - All.”

The whole center went silent, waiting for her to order what they need to do. She looked around the room, they all understood what they would have to do. “Government Red Alert. Code one. All off-duty government personnel are to be recalled. All non-essential power to emergency services. We need to get the emergency communications up to get any ships to protect Eastrovia. Get the word out to the media recalling everyone and get their feeds up. We needs eyes people. Let’s get to work!”

Jennifer Ward worked her controls trying to get a message out about the attack but she could only get the emergency channel. She was worried because she could not reach anyone in the government which never happened, which caused her to think of the worst possible that the attack was happening. After consulting with Agent Omega-01, who was having the same communication issues, she decided she was going to reroute to pick up the Prince per the ILOS protocol.

2:24 PM Eastrovia Local Time

Embassy Row
Eastrovia, East Malaysia

Ryan Knowles was directing one of the tourist when he heard bomb sirens in the distance towards the Diplomatic Imperial Office. Everyone paused to look in the direction of the siren when he felt a shock wave that caused the people near him to almost fall over then the loud explosion, he knew it was very bad whatever just happened.

He regained his composure as the civilian population were panicked. He tired to radio in but it the communication system was down. No alarms or anything were going off which he knew could only have been caused by a power failure. He knew DIO would have been a power hub but he quickly made it to a hidden console that was connected to a separate emergency system for Embassy Row. “Computer. Officer Ryan Knowles. Emergency lock down. Code one emergency,” he spoke to the console which replied back to him. “Voice print authorization accepted. Emergency lock down, code one activated.”

He closed the console and started to help direct people off Embassy Role as a recorded message started to play over the speaker system. “Attention. Emergency evacuation and lock down of Embassy Row. This is not a drill. Embassy personnel please report to your embassy or consulate immediately for lock down in three minutes. Civilians are to evacuate Embassy Row.” The message would repeat itself every 20 seconds counting down to when the embassies and consulates would be fully locked down. Officer Knowles was still waiting for emergency services for some of the civilians but he knew it could be a little while since they had not reached the DIO yet and smoke was still coming from what was left of the building, he could see it could be structure could be compromised.

So yes. Everyone who has a representative, your local East Malaysian embassy/consulate has been severely damaged or destroyed. Most of the causalities will be East Malaysians because of that stupid security grids! So any losses of your own people will be yours. Poor Empress Jung, I’ll be back to what happened to her soon. So like I have said… how will your nations react?

The Government District, Volkgoroda

Union Street was crawling with emergency personnel in the aftermath of the embassy blast. The embassy building was effectively destroyed while the area around the blast was severely damaged. Broken glass and other debris littered the street, medical personnel assisting those who didn’t need rushed to the hospital. Firefighters were cleaning themselves up, while coroners were already on the scene, filling body bags and counting the dead. Estimates put the death toll at around 175 and rising, about 30 of the dead Laiatanese citizens. Reports from hospitals put the wounded toll at near three thousand.

The rest of the Government District was on total lockdown, the only things in the sky above the capital were police, medical, and military helicopters. National Guard troops were stationed in several areas, as well as at the Prezidenthaus and other government buildings and monuments. The bombing had practically shut down the entire city.

EMNN World Headquarters - Studio A
Across East Malaysia with Marietta Janas

For Marietta it was a normal news day with her hour long news program. She was in the middle of a discussion with a couple of guest about a new school program to start teaching the long dead language of Malay when the power in the studio suddenly shut off. The studio was on the 20th floor of the building which was situated on the outskirts of downtown facing the government district of the city. Moments after the power shut off the glass just behind her shook for a second before the backup generators turned on.

She wasn’t sure if it was just the generator that caused the windows to shake but she stood up to look out the window while she waited for everything to come up to go back on the air. She was taking across the room to her producer about the windows shaking as she got close enough to the windows to get a good view but froze the second she seen smoke rising from the government district.

“How long until we get back online?! There’s smoke rising from the government district.” Everyone in the studio stopped what they were doing and came to the window to get a better look as they could see the smoke clearly in the sky as the moments went by. Her producer said they would be back on the air in moments and for everyone to get back in place because they are getting a request for all generator power to be routed to emergency services from the emergency government alert system and that they would be transferring to Prometheusburg and they have all their news affiliates taking the feed also.

Marietta quickly got in place as producer gave the five second warning. “This is breaking news. I’m Marietta Janas with East Malaysia News Network. Moments ago a power outage stuck Eastrovia and now their is smoke coming from the government district as you can see behind me,” she turned and looked behind her as the smoke was much thicker; she knew something was on fire. “We have an official government message that just came across our news desk to report… All government employees and emergency services personnel are on recall. Emergency power from generators within the bounds of Eastrovia Island are hereby requisitioned by the Imperial Government. Due to this request, we will now be transferring to our Prometheusburg newsroom. Stay tuned to East Malaysia News Network for updates as we get our ground crews to the scene.”

The lights in the studio shut back down and were replaced with the emergency lighting. She stood up and started to disconnect her mic, “Linda!” she yelled, “get me a crew! I’m going down there!”

OOC:Moving forward a little. Sorry with my lateness. Work <.< has been busy. Feel free to react as your nations would. All in attendance… my embassies are smoldering…

Imperial Palace
Outside of the Empress’ Office

June Pate was working on Empress Jung’s schedule for the next week on her work station when she heard an explosion which caused her and other members of the Empress’ staff to jump. She was about to ask ‘what was that,’ when the building rattled. She seen that her work station’s screen displayed computer code as the power went out. Everyone in the area just outside of the Empress’ office looked at each other with confused looks but June knew something was very wrong which was confirmed when members of the Imperial Guard were going room by room to secure the building as emergency power started to come online. She expected her console to come back online also but it didn’t; it was completely dead. She asked a the Imperial Guard members what was going on but they didn’t know yet because everything was offline. June moved for Glendale’s office to see if her work station was operational but she stopped dead in her tracks and gasped when she seen the smoke rising from Embassy. Glendale’s office had a perfect view with all the windows that face the majority of the Government District.

“Oh Aza! Diplomatic Offices is on fire! The building is on fire! The Empress was in conference today there! Oh Aza!” She turned around and called for the Imperial Guardsmen. “You must get to the Diplomatic Offices! It’s on fire! She’s there today!”

Embassy Row

Ryan Knowles had made his way to the front of what was left of the Diplomatic Imperial Offices only a couple of minutes after he activated the evacuation and locking down Embassy Row. He started looking for any survivors but there was none in the front are of the building; only ruble and what was left of bodies. The security tower was completely and the building directly behind was on fire and black smoke was high in the sky and knew it was visibly for miles. The building has four different sections which at its highest was 15 stories and at the lowest was 3 stories. From what he could see the 15 story and 10 story buildings has the least damage. The 5 and 3 story buildings were beyond repair but they likely saved the taller parts of the structure. The 3 story was collapsing as he looked at it and the 4 story wasn’t far behind it but part of the building security system had closed as the explosion went off which he found odd.

As he was waiting for emergency services to make it to the site to address the structure he heard the sound of ships coming in which he figured it was ASN ships coming to assist with the power outage but he paused for a moment taking a moment to reflect what he and his fellow officers were seeing. Imperial Guard ships, which were much smaller than regular ships, shuttles starting to land on Embassy Row with Imperial Guard officers and emergency staff. But what really gout under his skin was that Shuttlecraft One itself was landing. He looked back at what he thought was unusual that one part of the 5 story building had more security against the blast then to Shuttlecraft One and it clicked. He started moving to put up a police line for the media that started to show up because he knew it was about to get very interesting when the panic starts to happen when they realize that they were not in contact with the Empress.

Acting Shuttlecraft Two
En route to Eastrovia

Jennifer Ward and Agent Omega-01 were piloting the shuttle now carrying Prince Justin Jung with Nik Aker. Justin was making sure that Nik was comfortable as he was still trying to adjust to his new found abilities that he didn’t understand nor did the doctors that reviewed him before they have to leave Caven (city).

They were just south of Prometheusburg when an a communication came through that Jennifer read to everyone. “Caven State Defense reports that a “Alien Research” that is armed has disabled the Southern Defense Barrier and is headed in our direction. Alright boys,” she said to Justin and Nik, “strap yourselves in! It’s about to get really bumpy!”

“I have them on our scanners. They are coming at us fast and hot,” Omega-01 reported as he was working his controls, “but we do not have the ability to fight them off if they have enough fire power to attack and disable the barrier.”

Jennifer glanced towards the back as she could see that Justin and Nik were both listening to them very closely – both with worried expressions. “I agree… we could always hide within Prometheusburg’s defense shields,” at that moment Justin decided give his input.

“Jen… look I will not agree to that. I couldn’t do that to my own people using them as a shields. We have to find another way.” Justin said with now a very determined look on his face. A look that in that moment that Jennifer realized she was not looking at that little boy anymore but leader.

“Damn he’s grown up,” she said under her breath as she looked to see how long they had until the ship would catch up to them and any alternatives then it hit her and she started to tab at her controls. “Priority distress call. Shuttlecraft Two is in immediate danger. Available Imperial Guard and ANS ships converge on this position. This is not a drill. Authorization General Jennifer Ward, Assigned Jung Imperial Family.” She worked to make sure the message was broadcast on every government channel she could think of. “All we have to do is do our best until help arrives,” she said as she started evasive maneuvers as the first torpedoes started at them and she shuttle shook.

“We can’t avoid all of this they are throwing at us,” Omega-01 spoke as they were hit by phaser fire and the computer announced the shields had fallen by 5%. “I’m also reading that Prometheusburg defenses have come online and they are targeting that ship the best that they can and are requesting we come in closer but I already sent back they the Price has requested to try and avoid populated areas but whatever they can do from a distance would be helpful.”

“Understood! I’m moving us in a course that will give us a little more cover with what they are launching and before you say anything Justin I will do whatever I have to yet also follow your orders to keep you safe. Period. End of discussion.”

Even with Jennifer’s piloting skills they shuttle was hit by several torpedoes causing the shields to dip to below 50% but cover fire from the city made several of them miss them. “Jennifer! We just got a response from two Imperial Guard ships! They are en route to us… ETA a few minutes!” Omega-01 announced.

“That’s great! But what about that runabout that is heading right at us?” Jennifer said pointing ahead of them. “Sensors are crap right now. I don’t know if they are friendly or enemy!”

As she spoke the runabout went right past them and started firing on the ship that was attacking them. “That’s our answer! They are heavly armed from what sensors picked up as they got close to us but they are not Imperial Guard…” Omega-01 was cut off as another torpedo struck them causing half the systems to go out. “They’re still attacking us primarily and not much the runabout . They really want the Prince dead. Imperial Guard ETA is any moment with the last available information.”

“I bet you anything their leader is on that ship. He wants both of the boys dead knowing him. Damn it! I’ve lost attitude controls. We’re venting plasma and going down. We can’t take much more of this. I’m doing my best to level off our descent but we are going down. Switch to Blue Alert.”

The runabout turned towards Shuttlecraft Two at full speed while still firing at the attacking ship which fired another full spread of torpedoes at the shuttle that the runabout was trying to intercept but they were too far way to catch them. Moments before they were about to hit the shuttle a Imperial Guard ship came through the clouds and took impact of all the torpedoes and started to fire everything it had at the attacking ship as another Imperial Guard ship moved to shield the shuttle from any other chances of being hit by anything else.

Jennifer sighed with relief once the Imperial Guard ships arrived but only for a moment as the shuttle was still going down. “Reroute power from the shields and weapons system to the thrusters. I’m going to try to level our descent.” She ordered from Omega-01 who was telling her that the runabout moved itself below the shuttle and captured it with its docking clamps and sent a text message to the shuttle that they were friendly and were going to be setting down at The Straits.

Several minutes later the runabout gently set them down and landed near them. Jennifer and Omega-01 were a little leery after the events that just happened but they decided they didn’t have much of a choice. She gave Justin and Nik a weapon and advised them to stay behind them as they exited the shuttle. They approached the hatch of the runabout it opened and the now Oracle Aza and Tyler Bishop exited the runabout holding hands. “Annie? But you’re dead…?”

OOC: Sorry for the lull in posting. :stuck_out_tongue: Please still feel free to respond to the happenings. No more flashbacks or anything. Everything going forward will be directly after the bombings across TEP at our embassies. Assume that not all of the bombs did go off and they could have been arrested by local governments or YYY Officers at the embassies.

Presidential Office, President’s Estate, Visaelitia
3:10pm

Storming in and interrupting the meeting of the President with a cohort of seniors from Atlea province, Navarro Koning and senior security officials brandished intelligence reports and ushered the guests out of the room. “Sir, we have a [note]Presidential Adviser on Foreign Policy, Inquirer for Defense[note] situation with the Prime Minister.”

“Regarding?” The President betrayed a subdued concern with his expression.

“The last confirmed report of the Prime Minister’s whereabouts positioned him and the another of the Aelitian delegation in East Malaysian Embassy buildings which have been the subject of a bombing. Initial reports indicate there has been no communication in or out of the building since the attack, but it is likely the Prime Minister is in tact.” Navarro explained, palm outstretched and blue eyes narrowed. “We have also received Malaysian intelligence that their embassies in all other countries have been the target of a coordinated bomb attack. Terror links are suspected.”

A middle-aged woman[note]Senior Security Official[note] stepped forward to stand beside Navarro, “We have ordered a class 3 security clampdown at all ports of entry and exit, and committed intelligence assets to Embassy Road.” She hands the President an orange folder, with a seal of the Aelitian Intelligence service emblazoned on it. “The Council recommends you order the security advisory in the capital to class 5 and dispatch military police to the affected area.”

President Melodom leafs through the papers in the folder, holding midway through. He points at a name, “This name here. It is suspected to be a part of all this?”

“Sir, that list of names is those who have suspected ties to terrorist organizations. That name in particular has been tied to a number of terrorist threats, including one on the Dominion Bridge; not to mention his suspect transfers of funds to successful terror targets.” The Security official explained, smoothing her blue and black dress.

The President was silent for a long moment. “This name is the Minister of Defense of Qumar. You mean to tell me that he is orchestrating a global network of terror?”

“Suspected, sir.” Answered another official in uniform behind the adviser.

“So be it then. I hereby order the Capital region to class 5 security and order the Military Police to secure Embassy Row.” A number of bodies left the room. “And get me all the intelligence you can on the Qumari. I want to know every possible connection to any act of terror committed in the last twenty years. I will not have diplomatic relations with a government that allows such activities.”

The two staunch figures listen quizzically to unseen earpieces, the man speaking first. “It seems as though that in reaction to a bombing in East Malaysia, the President has ordered the Capital under lockdown and dispatched the military police. Reports are indicating that the bombing in East Malaysia is linked to bombings of embassy districts across the world.”

This number includes Aelitian military police as well as Malaysian diplomatic staff.”

The man’s voice once again played over the visual; “High level sources near the President state that the prime suspect is Qumari, with links to high-level Qumari government officials. The Straits
Original Landing Spot of East Malaysian ships

Justin had been listening intently to the Oracle Aza for over an hour since they had escaped near death. Imperial Guard ships circled above them but out of sight. She was explaining the past history of the “Malaysian Societies” and even what happened before that. She wouldn’t give an exact time frame but she was talking about sentience and before time itself so he figured the age of the “Malaysian Societies” was guarded as he gazed at The Harbinger Queen who had joined them shortly after they landed. She had “said” something about being this being a predestine meeting and how she was looking forward to living together in harmony once again. Justin was honestly scared of the creature and didn’t like the implications they were the first of them but would accept it for now.

Near the end of the conversation they had gotten word of his mothers survival with all of the leaders that were with her. He went straight to the runabout to speak with her. She looked a little beat up but she was full of energy and he went to tell her about the discussion they had been having which caused her to ask him why he thought they were telling him our history which he told her that it is a story about the survival of “Malaysian Societies” has been one of cooperation not violence. She smiled at him and told him that he was ready to take over because he understood how to get past the bombing that the interregional community will have all eyes on them to make the next move.

[size=100]A month later…[/size]

Imperial Palace
Press Room

Press from around the region were gathered in the Press Room after it was announced that a big announcement was going to be issued and it was clear to everyone in the room that something big was about to happen as the Empress, Prince and other top East Malaysian leaders were around the podium then the Empress started to speak.

“Thank you for joining us. Today will be a very important day in the history of East Malaysia. Today will mark the beginning of an end while at the same time it will the beginning and continuation of East Malaysia. After last months terrorist attacks the government has been investigating and meetings with the people behind me and we have all come to an agreement. I Empress Glendale Jung hereby will relinquish the roles of my office to my son, Prince Justin Jung as he will now be named Emperor of East Malaysia within the next year. With this change of leadership… East Malaysia will peacefully split into two different countries and this will also be over the next year. The human territories will form the Democratic Republic of East Malaysia which will be a full democracy. We will have to reconcile our people by tearing down the walls between us and working in cooperation.”

“In addition of this I will lead a program of Exodus to those of us that have advanced abilities to leave and make our journey to our original home. This will take many years of preparation and eventually the Star Empire will dissolve into the Democratic Republic once our technology levels reach the same level. The true future of the nation will be with the Hybrid community as we have discovered that together we are more powerful then separate. At this time we will not be taking any questions directly but please direct them to my Press Secretary. Thank you and have a good day”

The press were yelling out questions to her and Justin even as they were leaving and the Press Secretary took his place to try and calm the press so he could start taking questions.

LAST MONTH…
following the attacks in East Malaysia and Visaelitia

Trusteeship Cabinet Chambers, Visaelitia 8:46pm

The dim light of the Cabinet lounge was periodically lanced by aircraft search lights, punctuating the irregularity of the events tonight. The Ministers were in various states of dress and mind- some removed from committee sessions, and other whisked from home by the Federal Guard. The Cabinet had been quarantined in the room for nearly 5 hours. The Health Minister Howard Hughes, clad in pajamas and runners, busied himself with the coffee machine while the others form small groups to speculate on the current situation and the absence of the Prime Minister.

A pair of uniformed intelligence officers entered the room, abruptly ending the low conversations. Following them, a woman carrying a secure briefcase was flanked by another pair of officers in orange berets. The officers stood at attention at the entrance to the oblong room while the woman opened the case on the low coffee table in the centre of the room, revealing the numerous orange folders within.

“I am Director Harper-Dumont of Parliamentary Affairs at the Intelligence Service, and serve as Presidential Adviser on National Security. I have been dispatched here on order of the Director General of the Intelligence Service to brief the Trustee leadership on the current situation. Each take an orange folder, which you will open to find a synopsis of the intelligence.”

The Ministers read over the report, offering murmurs of shock. “Prime Minister… bombed in East Malaysia?”…“Embassy bombing?!”…“Qumar?”…“High alert in Visaelitia, AND all flights have been cancelled?”…“Is this accurate?”

“We can assure you this information is accurate as of this hour.” Director Harper-Dumont stated flatly. “The President has tasked me with presiding over a Cabinet vote on appointing a Prime Minister pro tempore, as we are still unaware of the condition of the Prime Minister. I will offer you three minutes between votes in which myself and the officers will leave the room. If a Minister cannot be chosen in two votes, I have been granted the ability to use my discretion in the choice for PM pro tem.” She departed the room, the officers closing the door on a flurry of shouts.

Parliamentary Press Room, Visaelitia 3:12pm

Encircled by journalists, the President was forced to entertain questions shouted at him by reporters regarding the joint press release he just completed with the Speaker of the House of Trustees.

“WAS THIS ELECTION MOTIVATED BY THE LEADERSHIP BATTLE IN THE HOUSE?!”
“DO YOU SUPPORT PM GODEFROY OR PRO TEM HUGHES?!”
“WHY DID YOU OVERRIDE THE FIXED ELECTION BILL?!”
“DO YOU THINK THE EMBASSY BOMBING RESPONSE SHORES UP SUPPORT FOR YOUR PARTY?!”
“WAS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE PARTY WOULD HAVE SPLIT IF YOU HADN’T CALLED THE ELECTION?”

The President calmly recommended the reporters refer to the comprehensive statement he just made, and to address any further questions to his Press Relations Secretary Thomas Quinn.

Through the hallways of the Parliament building, the President discussed election strategy with prominent members and operatives of the Social Federalist Party. A particular suggestion caught the President’s attention, “Dem Lab has been pushing electoral reform, and it has been polling well with most groups surveyed. I have to suggest we take this on in some form in our major planks.”

The President rebuffed the suggestion, “We were the ones who put this system in place, not even 4 years ago. Now we want to change it?”

“We can bill it as one of our ‘Dominion Review’ policies, and I could get the possibilities polled to see what plays less as backpedaling and more as intelligent review.”

Sighing, Melodom replied “Bring me a couple options, and make sure none of them make it look like we are pandering to rifts in the party.”
