I will be covering the war between the Daccic Republic and Free Syllvin for the next few weeks. It’s something I have planned for a while, and now that the Republic is on the map, I can put it to use.
The war will not contain traditional roleplay. Instead, it will be told to an international audience (which is arguably what everyone is) in the form of news alerts and broadcasts. Since I am controlling both sides, I know how the war will play out without any foreign interference. It is up to the rest of you to determine what ways skirmishes, battles, and entire operations will end. To do this, you can donate resources to either side of the war. Money, supplies, call in allied airstrikes, or even put your own military’s boots on the ground. The catch is that you will have no direct control over what you supply to the warring sides.
When you first post here, you need to detail exactly what you are donating and to whom. Bear in mind that you cannot donate anything after this point beyond special circumstances, which will be determined as the war progresses. You will be able to post here and influence the actions your units take, but the ultimate result is calculated upon a system of numbers. Be aware that anything you supply to either side may be partially or completely destroyed. This includes military units.
When detailing the donations you make, you must list what they are, the quantity of the item, and the intended deployment area. If it is a military unit, list the name of the unit, the commander, the total strength, their available vehicles and equipment, and their combat experience. These factors will be used to calculate a TACTICAL SCORE, which will fluctuate based on the donation’s use or damage taken. Money, supplies, and military units are grouped as COMBAT RESOURCES and COMBAT ASSETS. You can also donate STRATEGIC ASSETS, which are military officers meant to advise the military command of one side. They provide blanket bonuses to units operating in certain deployment areas. A general may give units +3 range, while an Admiral (which is useless because this is a ground war) may give ships +2 sensor range. There are five deployment areas: WESTERN FRONT, NORTHERN FRONT, and SOUTHERN FRONT, and the two defensive areas, MOUNTAIN ZONE (Syllvan only) and the RIVER ZONE (Daccic only)
The values of the donations you supply will play into their usage. When you post here, you take in the role of a military adviser from your nation, giving suggestions on how your units can be used. You can detail what you want a unit to do for that day (turn.) The TACTICAL SCORE will be calculated and added to a number I get from a dice-rolling program. The end result will determine how successful a unit is in the tasks it is assigned by command. If deployed to combat, the score will be weighed against the opposing unit. The unit with the higher score will be victorious, but factors such as specialization and unit size, plus the difference between the two scores, will determine the end result. If an armored battalion rolls a 25 total to attack a special forces company, which has rolled a 13, the special forces unit will be defeated. However, because of the SPECIAL FORCES modifier, which granted a +5 attrition debuff to units at battalion level or lower, and the smaller size of the special forces unit, they will be able to eliminate at least 25% of the armored battalion before being defeated. A similar situation with a regular infantry company may have them only eliminate 5-10% of the armored unit’s strength.
Daily results of your decisions and the actions that follow will be posted here: http://forum.theeastpacific.com/topic/7007803/1/#new in news story format, and in this thread as a data sheet of the day’s results. If there is a combat action underway, an update will be posted here to allow anyone with participating forces to give directions to individual units, such as fireteams or squadrons. Your may not attempt to direct the units on a strategic level; their operations are overseen the the Syllvan/Daccic command chains.
Here are the conditions for each side:
Free Syllvin is the larger and more advanced force. They are fighting a defensive war to secure their natural and citizen resources from being taken by the Daccic Republic. They have been caught unprepared in a period of disarmament, and are hard pressed to bring their military to bear against their enemy. They have home field advantage, with four of five deployment areas under their control. They can move troops using their railroad system from the coast to the combat areas. They will only accept military aid from allies and require all forces to operate under their military command in order to maintain a cohesive defense.
The Daccic Republic is smaller and has a less advanced military than Free Syllvin. They are fighting an offensive war to reclaim the land that were historically theirs and to free those they beliece are being exploited by the Syllvan High Senate. They have the element of surprise, a coordinated attack plan, and a strategic objective they have spent years preparing for. They have the RIVER ZONE under their control, which borders both the NORTHERN and SOUTHERN FRONTS, and has control of the DMZ that borders the WESTERN FRONT. They are landlocked and must either exploit Syllvan infrastructure or create their own to move troops. They will only accept military aid from those who manage to convince their stubborn leadership, and require all forces be placed under their jurisdiction in order to complete their complicated attack plan.
Military participation between the two sides will be limited. I want to prevent a global war from occurring, and I also want to prevent seventeen different armies from being present, because neither would work diplomatically or logistically. Neutral parties will need to work very hard to convince either side why they should accept military troops into their borders. Please be aware of the diplomatic status your nation has with the Republic or Free Syllvin before donating. This is in essence a strategy game played in the format of Dungeons and Dragons. I hope you enjoy the story or your time participating, whichever you decide.
