A Royal Resolution to Parliament

WHEREAS, the region and military organization known as The Grey Wardens has for a long time opposed the actions of Imperialism and Raiderism on NationStates,

AND, that they have time and time again interfered with His Majesty’s Corps of Royal Marines, that august body which defends the interests of the Kingdom of Great Britain abroad,

AND, that The Grey Wardens have consistently impeded, irritated, and attacked our allies,

UNDERSTANDING that we, the Parliament of the Kingdom of Great Britain, under Article III, Section E, Subsection 5, have the necessary ability to authorize any Declaration of War made by His Majesty the King,

AND given that His Majesty the King has requested we perform our duty under the Constitution as relayed above,

HEREBY DO DECLARE AND ANNOUNCE THAT a State of War now exists between the Kingdom of Great Britain and The Grey Wardens, and that we do humbly beseech the citizenry of our region to join His Majesty’s Royal Corps of Marines in the hopes of ending this conflict in a stunning victory.

The Supreme Court of Great Britain has long been an institution which has rarely changed and has been reliably constant. However, on 11th October, Chief Justice Nathaniel Lancaster announced that he would be stepping down as the Lord Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Lord Lancaster, the Earl of Northumberland, is a respected and revered member of the Court and has long been regarded as a wise advisor for all legal matters, so it came as a shock to many when he announced that he was stepping down. The Supreme Court, at the time, was looking very small which complicated matters further, however, with the arrival of JJ Douglas some months ago, the region has been blessed with another expert in the field of law. JJ Douglas was then appointed as Lord Chief Justice in a recess appointment and Nathaniel Lancaster was made the Sr. Associate Justice. At the beginning of the 22nd session of Parliament, the Lords quickly confirmed the two appointments, citing the individuals long experience in their fields and their expertise and knowledge of KGB Law.
General Election | New Prime Minister | 22nd Session of Parliament begins

On 12th October, 2016, the General Election season began with registration opening. A flood of Conservative candidates registered immediately, with a few Pax Britannia candidates as well. After some time, it seemed as though there would be no actual voting as there were only 7 candidates for 7 MP positions. However, as time passed on and the deadline approached, more candidates began to put their names forward. The election became a hotly contested one. Pax Britannia was hoping for another term in office whilst the Conservatives were hoping to get back into power after quite a long time on the opposition benches. The election then came down to the following:
Constantine Hesse - Pax Britannica Party 24 (13.5%)
Heidi Mountbatten - Conservative Party 18 (10.1%)
Arnold Todshaw - Pax Britannica Party 23 (12.9%)
Arthur K. Vasentius - Conservative Party 21 (11.8%)
Misael G. Bartlet - Conservative Party 24 (13.5%)
Edmund Norfolk - Conservative Party 25 (14%)
Edward Windsor - Conservative Party 25 (14%)
Arthur Pendragon - Independent 18 (10.1%)

Heidi Mountbatten and Arthur Pendragon then faced off in a run-off election which saw Heidi Mountbatten elected, with only one vote between Heidi and Arthur. Soon after, Parliament was opened and the Commons began proceedings on nominating a Speaker and Prime Minister. With the Conservatives holding a majority in Parliament, Tory Party Leader Heidi Mountbatten was nominated as Prime Minister, and Pax Britannia MP Constantine Hesse was nominated as Speaker. With no competition for either post, Constantine Hesse was elected Speaker and Heidi Mountbatten was made Prime Minister-Elect. The Lords then confirmed her selection and soon after Heidi Mountbatten went to the Palace where she was invited to form a Government in the King’s name. Prime Minister Mountbatten then went about appointing her cabinet. John Mountbatten was made Deputy Prime Minister, Arthur K. Vasentius was made Home Secretary, Edward Windsor was made Foreign Secretary and Misael G. Bartlet was made Culture Secretary.

It was in the early hours of 12th November when Mountbatten Castle, home to the Royal Household, released a statement informing Great Britain that His Majesty King George VI had adopted a son by the name of Alexander IV, King of Britannia, also known as Misael Bartlet. The new adoption comes two months after the adoption of HM Queen Rach of Balder into the Royal Family. Misael, a citizen of Great Britain, has previously served as the Secretary of State for the Ministry of Culture, Media and Sport. Misael now has access to the Coat of Arms and use of the name Mountbatten.
[th colspan=“1”]Cabinet Reshuffle[/th]http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/02/28/article-2285939-1690AC96000005DC-645_634x286.jpg
Early November saw two major cabinet changes. Misael G. Bartlet resigned from HM Cabinet from the position of Secretary of State for the Ministry of Culture, Media and Sport, with his deputy, Vaclav Vinograd, replacing him. Another major change to the Cabinet came in the form of an addition, with Elizabeth Winters being appointed as the Attorney General. The move came just two weeks into the term, however, more news came from the Press Office of 10 Downing Street just 6 days later. On 11th November, the Prime Minister, Heidi Mountbatten, addressed the region after what appeared to be a period of inactivity from Cabinet Ministers. The Prime Minister apologised for the inactivity and reassured Great Britain that the Government was committed to activity and ensuring growth and prosperity. The statement was delivered as a ‘re-start’ of the term, which was met with both praise and criticism, and is already showing results. The Home Office and Foreign and Commonwealth Office have been kicked back into gear and are now working towards completing their mid-term goals.

However, upon the resgination of Vaclav Vinograd on 20th November, the Prime Minister was forced to appoint her third Culture Secretary. PM Heidi Mountbatten appointed Arthur Pendragon to be her third Culture Secretary on 23rd of November. Shortly after, Secretary of State for Culture, Arthur Pendragon, appointed his deputy, Uncle Churchill. A day later, the Culture Secretary appointed HRH Prince Constantine, the Prince Royal, to head the Copyright Office.
[th colspan=“1”] Supreme Court vacancy to be filled[/th]http://i.imgur.com/FU0ac15.jpg?1
HM Supreme Court has had a vacancy for quite some time now. However, a few weeks into Heidi Mountbatten’s premiership, the Prime Minister nominated Cornelius Talleyrand for the vacant seat on the Supreme Court. If the nomination was approved and then passed by His Majesty and the House of Lords respectively, Cornelius Talleyrand would then become the Junior Associate Justice of Great Britain’s Supreme Court. His Majesty, King George VI, approved the nomination and so it went to Parliament for confirmation. The House of Lords, still undergoing the confirmation process, is likely set to approve the nomination unanimously, with Mr. Talleyrand’s experience and depth of knowledge being key factors in his favour. It appears that in a few days, or maybe in the next week, that HM Supreme Court will soon fill its vacant seat.
[th colspan=“1”] Festivals and Celebrations[/th]http://fundforidaho.org/wp-content/uploads/Youre-Invited.png
Statement from the Secretary of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Edward Windsor MP GCVO
Friends, Allies and fellow Diplomats,

It has been my highest and greatest honour to serve the Kingdom of Great Britain as her Secretary of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, now for my seventh term, but it has been an even greater honour to continue to serve within HM Diplomatic Corps. The Corps, which has been instrumental in ensuring that our message is heard across NationStates, has long served the Foreign Office with professionalism and efficiency. And while it has had the odd bump in the road, HM Diplomatic Corps continues to represent what is best about this British region. Unfortunately, there was a slight hiccup within the Corps when the October Update was dispatched last month and for that I must apologise.

I wish to reaffirm our dedication to maintaining and strengthening all of our diplomatic ties. They are a crucial tool in ensuring that the beliefs and interests of our regions are maintained and projected across the NationStates world. Throughout this term, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is committed to ensuring that we maintain an active line of communication to you through our Diplomatic Corps as well as through the use of NationStates nations. We hope to release more updates on a more regular basis and hope to communicate directly with your Foreign Secretaries as much as possible. I hope that our regions can continue to strengthen and build upon our diplomatic ties and I look forward to meeting your Foreign Secretaries in the near future.

Thank you for your time and God save the King!

Yours faithfully,

We, at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, would like to thank you for your continued cooperation with the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Thank you.

Commandant General Constantine Hesse of The Kingdom of Great Britain claims victory in England today the 3rd of December after a failed and poorly planned liberation attempt by the Grey Wardens where more than half of the liberation force missed the target. British forces, with the help of the Invaders held off defender forces for three weeks in a wonderfully organized hold of England. The Kingdom thanks the Invaders for their unwavering support and are offering free invading classes for any of those defenders who want to learn how to hit their targets.

[th colspan=“1”]The December General Elections: The House Of Commons Flipped![/th]

The Kingdom Of Great Britain witnessed as the season approached for The December General Elections to The House Of Commons approached. On 10 December, 2016 registration for The General Elections opened, immediately experiencing a surge of both Pax Britannia candidates as well as members from The Conservative Party. After being kept in His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition the previous term, Pax Britannia looked to gain a stable majority in the Commons after what was last term’s Conservative government. This election cycle proved to be a very heated contest, having five members of Pax Britannia and four members from The Conservative Party squaring off for the seven seats available. All and all the nine candidates battled hard, though only seven of them were able to secure themselves a spot going forward. The results of The General Elections are as follows:

Constantine Hesse (PAX) 19 (11.7%)
John Mountbatten (CON) 18 (11.1%) Withdrew
Edward Windsor (CON) 19 (11.7%)
Arthur K. Vasentius (CON) 16 (9.9%)
Arnold Todshaw (PAX) 20 (12.3%)
Arthur Pendragon (PAX) 21 (13%)
Owen Hesse (PAX) 18 (11.1%)

[th colspan=“1”]The Prime Minister’s Cabinet Appointments[/th]

There comes a point in time in which the Opposition may indeed become the majority. When this happens one can only expect major changes in the way that the government is run, as well as the appointees it features. Upon His Royal Highness, The Prince Royal, The Prime Minister, Constantine Hesse, taking office on Wednesday, 21 December, 2016 he delivered this term’s Inaugural Address. In this address he went on to explain his reasoning as to why he appointed who he did, giving the British people insight into the mind of their Prime Minister. Given his long and successful career in regional politics, having been a former Prime Minister in his own right, Owen Hesse was named as The Deputy Prime Minister. The Home Office, which was to be filled by another Prime Minister alumni, was to have seen their next Home Secretary in Charles Lancaster. Between his experience as both a legislator and a former Prime Minister, combined with his impeccable leadership ability, this made him an obvious choice for The Home Office. Moving along, The Foreign And Commonwealth Office definetly experienced an interesting appointment as a Conservative candidate was chosen in a Pax Britannian government. Arthur K. Vasentius, who had previously served as The Home Secretary in the term prior was chosen as The Chief Diplomat for The Kingdom. Known as a common face abroad with many connections and one with a good handle on foreign policy, this made AKV a very solid option coming in. Two more slots remained unfilled, as Nyx Lancaster and Arthur Pendragon were inserted into their respective positions. The Prime Minister expressed his firm belief that The Culture Secretary would be the one to breath life into regional culture, and that is indeed what Nyx Lancaster seeks to accomplish as she finds herself in a similar position once again! Lastly, His Royal Highness submitted his appointment to the position of The Attorney General. Arthur Pendragon, being a Member Of The Great British Bar Association, he shall be tasked with handing the governments legal matters in the upcoming term.

[th colspan=“1”]Noble Titles: Revoked![/th]

Since 12 December, 2016 The Prince Royal has been forced to revoke the titles of four nobles due to inactivity. Among them, The Duke Of Wellington, James Locksley Mountbatten, The Duke Of Kent, Fitzgerald Ravensdale, The Baron Of Blackford, Aleksander Mountbatten, and The Baroness Of Somerset, Elizabeth Winters. This was done in a new effort to spur activity in the regional forums, ensuring that all nobles of the realm maintain a high standard for their stature. The Kingdom Of Great Britain is a region in which those that contribute are rewarded for their efforts, and while all of these individuals mentioned were rewarded for their efforts they no longer are able to uphold such a status.

We ask for prayers and kind words for our dearly departed Archbishop of Canterbury, Richard. He said, in his final address to Westminster Abbey, that he was resigning due to a loss of strength that he felt would interfere with his ability to continue in his capacity as Archbishop. Richard had been a citizen of the region for over three years. His Most Royal and Divine Imperial Britannic Majesty George VI appointed the longtime Cardinal-Archbishop of York, John Mountbatten (aka the Prince of England) as Richard’s replacement. A funeral service is currently being held as a final sendoff to the gem of a human that Richard indeed was. The lead members of the region’s Royal Family each chose to address our community in a series of speeches from the King, the Prince of Wales, Prince of England, Princess of Britannia, and Prince Royal.

HM King George VI’s speech, while terse in verse, spoke eloquently on the need for the region to remain a united front on issues that present themselves “Our past will have taught us how to meet it unshaken. For the present, the work to which we are all equally bound is to arrive at a reasoned tranquillity within our borders; to regain prosperity without self-seeking; and to carry with us those whom the burden of past years has disheartened or overborne.”

The Prince of Wales remarked on similar issues, stressing the importance of remaining active and contributive members of the community, and the importance of older members helping out new citizens and avoiding elitism, as “Only the fool acts the elitist as we were all new at one time”

The Prince of England’s speech focused on the importance of the region as a community and a chosen family. He remarked that the region had “been the light” in some of his darkest times, finishing with “Chosen families are just as important as the ones we are born into, in my view, more important as choosing to love someone as though they are your brother or sister.”

The Princess of Britannia, who has led the regional Winter Festival, had a different tone in her address, focusing on the importance that we’ve managed to make it through the year, “Remind yourself that you did it. You survived. You’ve achieved a new personal record of being alive today, and you’re amazing and you can keep doing it. Keep on keeping on, KGB, I love you,”

The Prince Royal, alias Constantine Hesse, the current Prime Minister, issued his brief words from 10 Downing Street. He focused on the importance of the growth of the region during this time, ending briefly with " I’ve been in office this month, we’ve already started building on what the previous year left for us, which was a strong, active, vibrant regions with at least another ten years left in her. So here’s to ten more years KGB. Everyone have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/55/Foreign_and_Commonwealth_Office_Logo.svg/175px-Foreign_and_Commonwealth_Office_Logo.svg.png

The Continuation Of An Era; after a term that was seen as one of our Kingdom’s finest ended with The February General Elections one can only imagine what the next premiership will seek to accomplish. Well, the answer is that it may not end up being that different after all, as Prime Minister Constantine Hesse has confirmed the fact that he plans to seek reelection upon the expiration of his term on 28 February, 2017. Securing his reelection to The House Of Commons, The Prime Minister is set to address the house in the upcoming week’s Tuesday to discuss his confirmation as Prime Minister once again. Hard at work already, His Highness shifted his cabinet following his reelection. Appointing Victoria Alexandria to the Home Office, a position that was previously held by Charles Lancaster, naming Arthur Pendragon as his Deputy Prime Minister, and signing off on Mary Elizabeth Lancaster’s ascension to the position of The Attorney General. In a region in which everyone must expect the unexpected, we all look on as Mr. Hesse and his cabinet seek one more term in office!

This month has been an excellent month to be a part of His Majesty’s Royal Marine Corps, operation after operation after operation! Firing on all cylinders, the royal marines continue to push on, displaying their shows of strength at nearly every update. Now the home of The Blues And Royals, The Royal Scot’s Dragoon Guard, and The Royal Welsh Guard, our updater unit is now capable of being deployed many places at many different times. In a month which witnessed extreme advancements in recruitment by our Regimental Sergeant Major, the complete restructuring of our entire organization system for the corps, the addition of two newly implemented ranks, and many large-scale operations, His Majesty’s Royal Marine Corps has begun the process of establishing itself as a world power in NationStates!

[th colspan=“1”]So Here’s To The 1% That Have It All[/th][th]

The marines kept up military action this month in pace with their post-holiday boom both in joint military operations and in KGB-centered operations. The most brilliant of this month’s activity featured a joint op with The Black Hawks and several other regions to take one of the largest raidable regions on NationStates - Illuminati. The marines showed up with an updating force of massive numbers, surpassed only by The Black Hawks themselves and with the help of The Mafia, Arda en Estel, The Universal Allegiance, The Order of the Sword, The West Pacific Armed Forces, Kingdom of Alexandria, Unknown, Land of Kings and Emperors, HYDRA Command, Osiris, Albion, Katrias, and JTF surprised the Illuminites with a sudden regional takeover. This raid began four months ago with a sleeper placed in the region by Black Hawk Lieutenant Rai Vasentius and continues with endorsements in the region now reaching triple digits. While keeping heavy endorsers in Illuminati, the marines continue to hold South Pacific in a joint op with The Invaders and roll out a steady stream of tag raids as well.

Though the particulars are a well-kept secret, it is rumoured that the department is working on something that could potentially change the entire culture dynamic of the Kingdom of Great Britain, hopefully resulting in more roleplays, games, and contests in the months to come. Under Prime Minister Constantine Hesse, the team of aurors has never been so lively! From veterans to newcomers, the team is putting their heads together to create an entirely new experience for the region.

This last month in the Kingdom of Great Britan saw many things, We saw record breaking elections, resignations, A new party being made, A cultural fair and Three Weddings. To say that things have been busy in KoGB would be an understatement.

Of these weddings, none were more celebrated than the marriage of our own King. His Royal Highness George Mountbatten VI married Lady Isaris, Mayor of Equilism in a beautiful and whirlwind ceremony on April the 20th. Held in a Discord server of Her Majesty’s making, the wedding was attended by citizens of KoGB and many other well known regions. It is This Office’s Delight in wishing the two of them many happy returns.
[th colspan=“1”]Spring has Sprung[/th]

The Culture Department of KoGB has once again knocked it out of the park this month. The Easter festival brought in visitors from many regions, who wrote short stories, made their own Easter eggs, and designed Easter themed flags. But the true Highlight of the Festivities was the Easter Egg Hunt. Created in the minds of Nyx Lancaster, Astra Rahl, and Satya Romefeller-Lancaster, it was the largest of all the activities. There were almost 50 eggs hidden, including a “Special Egg” that would gain the finder a 15 dollar gift card of their choosing. The Winner, KoGB’s own Misael Mountbatten found the egg hidden in the Royal Wedding of Victor and Mary Lancaster. We so enjoyed this festival and we are forever grateful for our visitors that made it! (As an aside. It seems we… misplaced… an egg. If found, please alert one of the three of the organizers. Thank you!)

[th colspan=“1”]The Winds of Change[/th]

This month in the Kingdom of Great Britain saw the election of a new Prime Minister, Constantine Evereaux, who resigned his post only weeks into his premiership. While Constantine prepared his leave of the region in a flurry, a new Prime Ministerial election began which faced Owen Bonaparte and Mary Elizabeth Lancaster, better known as Altino, against one another and ended in Mary Lancaster’s first premiership. Mary’s government is well-balanced in experience and diversity of ideas. We cannot wait to see what they will accomplish!
This election and the consecutive Parliamentary by-election which entered Andrew Dynzmir-Fominov into the House of Commons saw the Kingdom of Great Britain’s newest political party - The Royal Traditionalist Party - with the most seats in the Commons. A proud achievement indeed for a party in its youth.

Also following the resignation of Constantine Evereux, the Kingdom of Great Britain’s military saw a new face in its leadership. Introducing our new Commandant General - Satya Romefeller! Satya has already gotten busy training up solider in the KoGB Marines and changing up the rules. The Marines have a new fire lit underneath them and are excited and well-prepared to take on NationStates under their new leadership. Satya has lead a long list of militaries in his career, including most recently Mafia and Hellenic Empire, and we are pleased to see his leadership in our own region!

[th colspan=“1”]A Moment of Reflection[/th]

https://eaglecountryonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/candle-candlelight-vigil-12032015.jpg

In the Kingdom of Great Britain we paused in reflection of the lives lost to the Manchester Terrorist Attacks. We sent our thoughts and prayers to the loved ones of those who lost their lives to a monstrous ideology of hate and intolerance. We deplored the attacks on free expression and young feminism that the terrorist hoped would shake the children of Britain’s confidence to grow into confident young adults. We in the KoGB believe that the British people and the people of Manchester are stronger than these weak cowards. The Manc spirit will not be crushed by acts of terror, the British people are strong and resilient, we have been through acts of terror before and we will in all likelihood see them again, but nothing will change that indomitable spirit of British people. The spirit that fought against powers seemingly stronger and better equipped; The spirit that fought for right over might even when they had to fight on their own; The spirit that the Spanish Armada, Napoleon and Hitler all withered in response to; The spirit that cried “once more onto the breach, dear friends, once more”; The spirit that exists only here in these collection of Atlantic isles, bound by a common creed and an intertwined destiny that compel us all to declare, as Churchill did on the 8th May, 1945 “Advance, Britannia! Long live the cause of freedom! God save the King!”
[th colspan=“1”]A New Leader for the Royal Marines[/th]

In lighter news, this last month in KoGB, we’ve seen Major Changes (mind the pun) in our Royal Marines. We welcome a new Deputy Commandant and a brand new Commandant-General. Owen Bonaparte has been appointed to the rank of Deputy Commandant and Astra Rahl has been promoted, by His Royal Highness Field Marshal Victor Lancaster to the rank of Commandant-General. Astra Rahl has a storied history in the armies of NationStates being a Field Commander in The West Pacific Armed Forces. The two militaries have since started a joint military counsel and will work closely with each other in the future lead by our new Commandant-General.
[th colspan=“1”]The End of the Lancaster Premiership[/th]

Recently we’ve seen the closing of another Parliamentary Session, and the end of Prime Minister Mary Lancaster’s term. Under Her Royal Highness Princess Mary Lancaster, we’ve passed laws and amendments that have changed The Kingdom of Great Britain for the better. During Prime Minister Mary Lancaster’s term, the King was required to attend to issues elsewhere and a Regency was declared for the period of the King’s absence. The Prince of Wales and his wife the Prime Minister made quite the power couple ruling the Kingdom of Great Britain in the King’s name.

But we have moved to a new Government and a new Prime Minister after the recent June election with two relatively new parties both running an equal number of candidates for the positions with the United Nationalist Alliance gaining a majority under newly appointed Prime Minister Owen Bonaparte. The political parties that are now fill the partisan arena are the Royal Traditionalist Party and the United Nationalist Alliance. We’ve recently seen a wave a political parties bite the dust, the parties that have ceased to exist are Pax Britannica and The Conservative Party, whereas our own United Centrifical Party was merged with RTP earlier this Parliamentary Session.

[th colspan=“1”]Happy King’s Day[/th]

June 4th was His Majesty King George VI’s Birthday. We thank our King for his continued support, in gameplay and out of it. He is a true friend, a kind man and a wonderful King. Without his support and constant encouragement, this Region would not be as progressive and friendly as it currently is. We thank you, My Friend, for being you. And we wish you a very happy birthday, with many happy returns.

If you think legislatures are nothing more than bodies of government where people shout at each other and nothing gets done then you might want to take a look at the work of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Great Britain. Although the term began with a rocky start as the Prime Minister barely gained the support needed to form a government, this term has seen one of the most productive Parliaments in recent memory in KGB. In the House of Commons, the Prime Minister and other MPs proposed several constitutional amendments to hammer out flaws and justice reform in the Constitution, and several bills such as a bill to allow democratic elections for the World Assembly Delegate, a referendum and Military Ideology Act to reclassify KGB from imperialist raider to independent, the Intelligence Reform Act to codify the intelligence agency and ensure accountability, and criminal code reforms for anti-corruption and anti-sexual harassment reform to name a few.

Before the resignation of UNA’s Jay Dee Bonaparte as MP of Wales, Rikki Arche-Mountbatten formed a new party with Deputy Prime Minister Edward Stuart called the United Britons’ Coalition, evenly dividing the Commons with the Prime Minister’s Whig Party while the Welsh seat was vacant. When UBC’s Rachael VerinGuard was able to win the seat against Whig candidate Peter Chamberlain, the United Britons became the majority party in the Commons, causing uncertainty for the Prime Minister’s future. Arche-Mountbatten and Stuart averted the uncertainty by issuing a joint statement on behalf of the party acknowledging that a Vote of No Confidence against the Prime Minister was a possibility, but confirmed that the party will continue supporting and working with the Prime Minister and his government.
[th colspan=“1”]Cabinet[/th]http://www.climatechangenews.com/files/2013/04/coalition-cabinet-meeting-flickr-the-prime-ministers-office-466px.jpg

This term saw the sudden resignations of Attorney General William Kudrow and Culture Secretary Nyx Lancaster, leaving the Deputy Prime Minister scrambling to organize KGB’s booth for the NS World Fair with Foreign Secretary Stuart-Mountbatten and organizing this year’s Christmas Festival. Despite several hiccups, the events were smashing successes as the Prime Minister replaced Kudrow with Smith VerinGuard and Lancaster with William Mountbatten. Overall, since the beginning of the term Parliament has been hard at work in order to help the Kingdom of Great Britain get back on track.
[th colspan=“1”] Prince Richard Banned[/th]

On Christmas Day, the region was rocked once again by scandal as the King released a statement from Buckingham Palace informing the region that Prince Richard had been banished from the region after the administration received credible allegations with logs that he had sexually harassed another person. The King reaffirmed his “strong stance against sexual harassment” and vowed that he “will never, ever be allowed to return”. The Archbishop of Canterbury Rev. Albert Philip Stuart removed Prince Richard from the priesthood, promising that “people like Richard deserve no place in the priesthood”.

Prime Minister Vac Mercer proposed the “Anti-Predator Act” in reaction to the revelations, which would empower the forum and Discord administration teams the power to ban harassers without trial to “protect the community against individuals who prey on others on the internet be it sexually…” and “includes acts such as sexual harassment, sexual assault, doxing, and/or stalking.” The proposal has come under scrutiny within Parliament and by members of the community. Former Attorney General William Kudrow asserted that due process must remain as a “tenant of our legal understanding”. UBC’s Edward Pierce, MP of France, criticized the legislation as an “unnecessary and unconstitutional encroachment on the right to due process” citing past authoritarianism in KGB, and UBC’s Rikki Arche-Mountbatten, MP of Scotland, argued that the “vagueness could allow someone to ban someone for malicious intent” over concerns of lack of definitions.

Despite disagreements on how the region can crack down on sexual harassment, all parties and citizens agree that the plague of sexual harassment that has become a topic of conversation over the last year must be firmly opposed. Parliamentarians will have to negotiate solutions between party lines to bring effective legislation that will deter and punish sexual harassers within rule of law while protecting the victims.
[th colspan=“1”] By-Election[/th]

The Kingdom of Great Britain has just had its by-election for the seat of Wales concluded.

After Jay Dee Bonaparte resigned as the MP for Wales, a by-election was held to fill the vacancy with several candidates running from all of the parties except for the United National Alliance. Asce de Vitre of the Freedom Party, Rachael Valeriya VerinGuard of the United Britons’ Coalition, and Peter John Chamberlain of the Whig Party ran for the seat with 20 citizens going to the poll. The results of the by-election are Asce de Vitre and Peter John Chamberlain losing with 1 and 6 votes respectively, and Rachael Valeriya VerinGuard winning the seat with 13 votes. This is quite significant considering that a brand new centrist tent political party, the United Britons’ Coalition, will be in Parliament with a majority and could play a role in influencing which legislation gets passed and such. However, the UCP has promised to uphold the Whig Government for the rest of the term citing their full confidence in the Prime Minister.
New Year’s Message
31.12.2017

Lords, Ladies, and loyal Subjects of the Crown,

Two thousand and seventeen has been a very difficult year for this region. Over the past twelve months, the Kingdom of Great Britain has been rocked by repeated scandals, all of which have damaged Our realm’s reputation abroad. Since Our ascention to the throne on the 4th of September, We have presided over the greatest changes this region has ever seen. The 27th Parliament drafted the first Constitution ever written by and for the people of this region, including limitations of Royal Prerogatives and a significant expansion of the role of the Civil Executive Government in all matters which previously were under direct control of the Crown. This would have been impossible were it not for the strength and fiber of you, the British citizen, whose elected representatives worked for weeks to draft and pass the new central document.

Since those dark days, Our region has continued to prosper in open defiance of those who claimed that without Our predecessor the Kingdom of Great Britain would collapse. Together, we, the collective we, have struggled to maintain Our realm’s solvency. This would have been completely and totally impossible without the great trust you put within Us and Our successor the Prince of Wales. We know that We speak for both of us when We express Our gratitude to you for this continued trust and firm belief in Our abilities. We have learned much from you, and it is Our hope that you have learned much from Us in this time.

Two thousand and eighteen will be no easier for the Kingdom of Great Britain, We fear. Together We must blaze a new trail for Our beloved region. We urge you, the citizen, to become involved. Posting in Chatland or spamming here on the forum is not enough, We fear. We must ask you to join the Civil Service and assist with the day to day activities of Government, and to join the Royal Marines so that Our realm’s once great military might again plant the flag of the Kingdom of Great Britain elsewhere across NationStates.

Happy New Year, my friends. May 2018 be a year of service and continued love for Our homeland, the Kingdom of Great Britain. May God save and protect you all.

This statement made on the 31st of December in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Seventeen, in the First Year of Our Reign

In Foreign Relations the Kingdom of Great Britain has been working towards restoring its image across the Nationstates realm. Currently, the House of Lords is debating the League of Regions after the Commons passed it just a few days ago. By entering the League of Regions the Kingdom of Great Britain is entering into an alliance with regions like the United Kingdom, The Britannian Kingdom, and The Allied States which would hopefully serve as a stepping stone to restoring relations to those regions and other regions as well. Parliament is also discussing the Treat of Westminster which would bring the Kingdom of Great Britain into a close relationship with another British themed region, The Britannian Kingdom.

BREAKING NEWS

Vac Mercer resigns as Prime Minister and has been stripped of all Honours by His Majesty the King

Written by Harold Abendroth-Coxon

(18 January, 2018) - Tonight in the Kingdom of Great Britain; Vac Mercer has unexpectedly resigned following the shock publishing of an unofficial report by the Deputy Prime Minister, Edward Stuart.

The report in question regards an investigation into a raid in which Mr. Mercer is accused of allowing or potentially encouraging men under his command to impersonate ‘defenders’. What has made the situation worse is that when it was brought to Mr. Mercer’s attention that men under his command had committed such an act, it is understood by the BBC that Mr. Mercer denied all knowledge of this and attempted to allow the lower ranking sailors to take the fall for this action. This damning report has shocked the region and has caused significant diplomatic crisis between the Kingdom of Great Britain and some of her allies.

In response to the report, and after discussions with His Majesty Henry IX, Mr. Mercer felt that the only option available to him was to do the honourable thing and resign. In addition to this, the King felt that he had little choice but to strip Mr. Mercer of his honours in order to uphold the standing of the region on the world stage. Many citizens are shocked by what has happened, but, perhaps more than most regions, the people of Great Britain are resilient to such political shocks and there is not expected to be any significant long-term political fallout, foreign or domestic.

For the present, the Kingdom of Great Britain is without a Prime Minister and is unlikely to officially have one before the election period which starts in the coming days. Instead, it is expected that the Deputy Prime Minister, Edward Stuart, will run things from Number 11 Downing Street until the elections start.

Stay tuned for further updates as the news comes in

[th colspan=“1”]New Prime Minister and Cabinet[/th]https://media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2016/06/cameronnumber10-e1466765894687.jpg

Following the removal of former Prime Minister Arthur Vasentius, Prince Royal of the Kingdom of Great Britain Louis Mountbatten stepped up to the plate to serve as the region’s next Prime Minister. After a few days, Louis emerged as the only contender for the Premiership and secured the confidence of both Houses of Parliament. Following his ascension to the Premiership, the Prime Minister announced that he would be stepping down as Prince Royal for the duration of his tenure. In his inaugural address, the Prime Minister claimed that his government would pursue an ambitious agenda, both domestic and abroad before announcing his Cabinet for the term.
Citizens of Kingdom of Great Britain, My Friends,

I am humbled to stand before you today as the elected Prime Minister of our great region. We have seen a period in which the previous administration was inactive in pursuing it’s agenda, I pledge to you this day that will stop.

As you know I have concurrently been serving as the Prince Royal in the region, I announce that I will be stepping down as Prince Royal for the duration of my term as the Prime Minister of the region.

This Government will pursue an ambitious agenda, both foreign and domestic. We will continue the conversations that have been started with the Enadian Union, and further continue talks with The Galactic Order, as well as the talks began under my predecessor in The Britannian Kingdom and New United Kingdom. We will also pursue a bold legislative agenda. My administration will work to reform the Criminal Code and the Constitution for clarification.

My Cabinet will comprise the following people:

Deputy Prime Minister - Harold Coxon, I have chosen Harold to serve as my Deputy Prime Minister because he is a proven leader with knowledge Britain’s past, and a vision for the future.

Home Secretary - Rachael Arche-VerinGuard, I have chosen Rachael because she displayed an excellent work ethic as Home Secretary, and trust that she will continue her work this term with the same tenacity.

Foreign Secretary - Smith VerinGuard, Mr. VerinGuard is known for being well-connected and showed great potential last term as Foreign Secretary. This term, I trust, he shall complete the work that was begun only a few weeks ago, but this time under better leadership.

Culture Secretary - The Right Honourable Vac Mercer, Mr. Mercer is one of the better known faces of this region. He has been a member of this region since its founding, and has served in a variety of capacities during his years of service. As Culture Secretary, Mr. Mercer will revive KGB Radio and revitalize the BBC.

Attorney General - Rikki Arche-Mountbatten, Miss Arche-Mountbatten has served with excellence as Director General of the BBC during this term. As a member of the House of Lords, Ms. Arche-Mountbatten will speak with the government’s voice in that chamber, while and will assist my parliamentary colleagues in the British Royalist Party in drafting legislation.

These people are some of the best and brightest minds in the region, and I know that they will serve with great distinction.

Once again, I thank you the citizens of the region and my colleagues in Parliament for entrusting me with this sacred duty of leading this region as your Prime Minister. My office is always open for questions and comments.
News on major government events
The Foreign Office
Discussions for a regional pact between KoGB and the Enadian Union have ceased following weeks of fruitless efforts by HM Government. The Cabinet unanimously approved the closing of embassies with the Enadian Union and severing all ties. The decision came following lack of confidence in the usefulness of such a treaty, and remarks by Enadia’s founder to King Henry IX. Enadia’s founder, Harry, accused the King and the entirety of the region of being puppets to The Galactic Order. The Kingdom of Great Britain does not stand such insults to itself or to our friends in NationStates.

The Culture Office
In a statement to the region, Secretary of Culture Vac announced the revival of KoGB weekend games. In previous terms, the KoGB weekend games had become a staple for cultural activity in the region. The Department is currently in a polling stage, deciding on what games will be held. Despite having been scrapped before, many in the region are optimistic that the reintroduction of Weekend Games will bring further activity into the region.

House of Commons
The House of Commons has been busy this month

The Prime Minister Succession Act:
The Prime Minister Succession Act was introduced by the Member of Parliament of Wales Albert Philip Stuart. Originally, the proposal was designed to outline a method of succession for the Premiership should the Prime Minister’s and Deputy Prime Minister’s offices both become vacant. After a lively discussion, the proposal was amended to require the Prime Minister to name a Deputy Prime Minister within 24 hours of the office becoming vacant to prevent both offices from being vacated at the same time.

Amendment to the Criminal Code (2017):
The Criminal Code Amendment (2017) was finally passed by the House of Commons with unanimous consent. The amendment has been debated by both Houses of Parliament for almost three months, but many are optimistic that an end is finally in sight.
The amendment is a multi-faceted proposal with many separate amendments which make up the entire bill. Most notably has been the annulment of the Sovereigns power to place a tried and sentenced individual on probation in a declaration of clemency. Further additions were also made, including providing power to the Supreme Court to take private evidence in cases potentially sensitive to an individuals security such as doxxing and harassment. The amendment has also seen to it that any disclosure of private information originating from any government sponsored agency such as HMG and the Houses of Parliament are prosecutable by law.

Amendment to the Citizens Mock Parliament Act.
A minor amendment was made to the Mock Parliament act, requiring all RolePlay legislation to be presented before the Crown or Crown Delegate for royal assent with exceptions being made for internal regulations.

The House of Lords

World Assembly Delegate Reform Act (2018)
The WAD Reform Act proposed by Prince of Wales and current Lord High Chancellor of the House of Lords, Charles Lancaster, removes the power of the sovereign and Prime Minister to remove the World Assembly Delegate. Instead, the amendment replaces Parliament with the power to impeach the WAD. The act faced much scrutiny from the Lords before a vote was called and the amendment eventually shot down.

Following the resignation of former Chief Justice Jacob Rees-Moggs, the Prime Minister was forced to name a replacement. After deliberation, the Marquis of Liverpool Owen Bonaparte was nominated for the position. His nomination was expediently confirmed by the House of Lords, securing Owen’s nomination to the Court. He officially donned the robes of Chief Justice on March 14.

April 25–26 — An election began on the 25th to elect seven new members of parliament. Ten candidates total had run for the positions: Asce de Vitre, USP; Harold Coxon, BRP; Vac Mercer, BRP; Jay Dee Bonaparte, BRP; Wilhelm von Churchill, BRP; JJ Douglas, BRP; Peter John de Vitre, USP; Pitt the Younger, IND; Albert Phillip Stuart, BRP; and Marius Titus von Churchill, BRP. After a day of voting, the winning candidates were: Marius Titus von Churchill for Cardiff Central (Wales); Jay Dee Bonaparte for Victoria (Canada); Vac Mercer for Banks (Australia); Wilhelm Von Churchill for Kerry (Ireland); JJ Douglas for Argyll and Bute (Scotland); Harold Coxon for Saffron Waldon (England); and Albert Phillip Stuart for Paris (France). Appointed on the 26th, the British Royalist Party had a 100% occupation in the House of Commons.

April 25–26 — in addition to the Parliament election, the election for the Mock Parliament Chairperson was held, also starting on the 25th. A by-election for the chair was held earlier this month after the previous Mock Chair, Peter John de Vitre, had resigned, resulting in Juris Lancaster taking the position. (Read more about Juris Lancaster and JayDee Bonaparte’s winning the by-elections http://w11.zetaboards.com/The_Great_Britain/topic/30570187/1/) The only candidate, however, was Juris Lancaster, with 25 votes for and 3 votes abstaining, resulting in his, unsurprisingly, retaining the Mock Chairperson position.

April 26 — No sooner had Vac Mercer been elected than he had resigned from his position as MP for Australia. Striking controversy into the British Royalist Party, Vac Mercer left with the following address:
— Begin quote from ____

Mr. Speaker,

Seeing as how my party saw fit to essentially lead a coup against me and utterly betray me, thus taking the Speakership from me, I can no longer fulfill the mandate upon which I was elected. As such, I hereby resign from the House of Commons. Furthermore, I will not remain in a political party and provide support for people of such low integrity, as such I hereby resign from the British Royalist Party.

April 27–28 — After Vac Mercer’s resignation, a by-election was held to take his place, starting on the 27th. The two rival candidates were Rachael Arche-Veringuard with the BRP, returning after having left for a month, and Claire Arche-Veringuard, running independent. On the 28th, Rachael Arche-Veringuard was elected for Gold Coast (Australia), defeating her opponent 13:7, retaining the 100% BRP seat occupation.

[th colspan=“1”]Interview with former By-Election Candidates[/th]https://i.imgur.com/ugYIOCg.png

April 29 — After the by-elections, the BBC had questioned Rachael and Claire Arche-Veringuard on their thoughts about the election. Rachael had only this to say about the government:
— Begin quote from ____

I’m personally concerned by the large amount of people in Parliament. I’m worried things will be progressing before everyone has a chance to comment or participate in the Parliament, but so far I haven’t seen that thankfully. I think this is gonna be a good Parliament session, though.

— End quote

Claire Arche-Veringuard, however, had a few more things to say about the election.
— Begin quote from ____

Well, the general election’s outcome was already expected with another BRP victory as most of the other parties or independent candidates didn’t have a unified front or electoral machinery ready for the polling day.

Plus their performance was aided by Louis Mountbatten’s successful BRP administration further cementing their role as proven capable administrators and regional leaders. If the other parties had consolidated as one unified front, I’m pretty sure they would have at least gotten one seat the House of Commons.

I threw my candidacy in the Australia By-Election because it was kinda absurd to allow another BRP absolute majority just occur without an attempt to contest it by other parties. Beats the purpose of democracy if no one is gonna oppose and just agree for the sake of getting it over and done with.

I just hope that next time that the opposition parties can actually put up a fight as it’ll get boring to see just the same party or leader repeatedly occur.

— End quote

She also had this to say about Vac Mercer’s resignation:
— Begin quote from ____

The aftermath of the election events leading to the mini coup in the Commons Speakership was a bit shocking as I had expected Vac to continue being Speaker but it seems JJ had already lobbied in private to get votes and successfully prevented Vac from getting a second Speaker Term.

April 27 – May 1 — Disaster struck the Enadian Union once again on April 27 when former Vice President Gottika was removed from office and http://w11.zetaboards.com/The_Great_Britain/topic/30582085/1/ persona non grata after overstepping their executive powers within the region. Though ties were temporarily held between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the Enadian Union, they were http://w11.zetaboards.com/The_Great_Britain/topic/30583903/1/ on April 30 when a formal apology was sent out to their allies. However, within 24 hours, a coup d’état took place in the Enadian Union, silencing all who oppose the new regime. Not tollerating this, the Kingdom of Great Britain has permanently http://w11.zetaboards.com/The_Great_Britain/topic/30585347/1/ entirely with the Enadian Union.

May 3 — On the brighter side of this week, the Festival of Endor has begun, celebrating the birthday of Star Wars. Both the Galactic Order and the Kingdom of Great Britain are participating in this event, which started on May 3, with many events being hosted by our Minister of Culture, who had this to say about the event:

— Begin quote from ____

The culture department tried some new things with the festival this time. The big thing being the ongoing story contest, that there’s still time to submit your story for! We’re always open to suggestions, so if you have any please direct any messages to Sarah Arche VerninGuard Stuart. Looking forward to continuing to grow with all of you! Coming up we have a poetry contest for a new position created by the king and also a festival at the end of the month with the League of Regions

May 17 — A successful State Visit with Olympia has finally come to an end. Negotiations were proven to be successful after plans to expand the Kingdom of Great Britain’s relationship with Olympia were revealed, with a new http://w11.zetaboards.com/The_Great_Britain/topic/30597336/1/ being proposed on May 17. The agreement, in short, will be fairly similar to the existing cultural agreement with The Galactic Order, which has had successful weekend games. The agreement also leaves the door open to closer relations with Olympia and other regions around NationStates.

[th colspan=“1”]MP Citizenship Stripped[/th][th]http://picalls.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Dark-Forest.jpg

May 19 — Marius Titus von Churchill, a Member of Parliament for Wales, has been stripped of citizenship after being legally classified as “missing” due to severe inactivity. This has been a somewhat controversial topic, as Marius is the first sitting MP to have been stripped of citizenship. Due to this, a by-election was called, and the Welsh seat was filled by Francis A. Stuart-Mountbatten, a former MP himself, who was the only person wishing to take the seat. It is hoped that Marius will be able to find his way back to our region once again, but it’s inherently obvious that, at least for now, this was the best course of action to take. Francis was elected with over 90% of the vote with one person abstaining. The ‘election’ of Francis officially put an independent party in the seat, removing the 100% British Royalist Party occupation.

May 20 — The routine election for Citizen of the Month was held recently, the choices were between Sarah VerinGuard-Stuart, Henry Beaufort, Madeline VerinGuard, Wilhelm von Churchill, and Jay Dee Bonaparte. With exactly 20 votes at the close of the polls, the election resolved with Madeline VerinGuard receiving no votes, Henry Beaufort receiving one, Wilhelm von Churchill seeing three, Jay Dee Bonaparte seeing five, and Sarah VerinGuard-Stuart seeing an astounding 11, making her the apparent winner. As of May 20, Sarah VerinGuard-Stuart has been named citizen of the month, with the next election planned to begin on the 20th of June…table]
