What is this?

This is The Kingdom of Great Britain!

We are a British themed region which operates in a Constitutional Monarchy Style. The above is our header which you can find all the information about in our region. The region is led by King Henry IX and his heir is the Prince of Wales, Charles Lancaster-Stuart.
Our executive government is led by the Prime Minister who is elected from the House of Commons, by the House of Commons, and then confirmed by the House of Lords. Elections for Constituencies within the House of Commons runs on a 2 month schedule. The House of Lords is led by the Lord High Chancellor while the House of Commons is led by the Rt. Honourable Speaker. The Mock Parliament is the region’s General Assembly equivalent in the World Assembly. This area is for budding legislators to test their writing and debate abilities and get their feet wet before running for Parliament. The Mock Parliament is overseen by the Crown Delegate and is led by the Mock Parliament Chairman.
Our Great Officers of State are positions appointed by the Monarch to carry out particular important tasks for the region or Royal House. The Principle Private Secretary assists his Majesty in drafting and issuing formal statements from the Crown or Royal House. The Lord Chamberlain acts as the Lord-in-Charge of maintaining the Royal Household and all of the House of Stuart’s Family Records. The Lord Advocate acts as his Majesty’s lawyer and provides his Majesty with legal advice when necessary. The Lord Privy Seal is the designated individual tasked to ensure all logs from conversations within the Privy Council are transferred to the proper archive forum. The Director-Genernal of MI5 ensures the region remains secure internally through background checks and other various tasks.

Below is our regional update which includes both the 33rd Session of Parliament and the 34th Session of Parliament. KoGB is current in the 34th Session of Parliament but in the interest of giving a little more detail to make up for our recent diplomatic silence, we have included the last two weeks of the 33rd Session up to this past week of the 34th Session.
The 33rd Session of Parliament

The House of Commons was incredibly busy this term continuing to debate legislation revolving around Constitutional Amendments intended to bring more clarity to our sometimes confusing Constitution. All things which originated or was brought to the House of Commons was debated upon and either passed and brought to our King for assent, or passed and brought to the Lords for further debate with intention to be passed and brought for assent. The House of Commons continued to be a body of interest in the region for riveting PMQs keeping our Prime Minister on her toes and the government constantly being kept accountable. Near the end of her term, Prime Minister Rikki resigned from the region. Her Deputy at the time, Arnold Stuart, assumed the position and received confirmation of confidence with the House of Commons. He finished the term strong, setting the stage for the upcoming election for the new House of Commons and new Prime Minister.

Aside from the House of Commons continuing to keep the region interesting, a week long festival occurred celebrating the region’s 5th year anniversary, ending with the closing of Parliament and King Henry’s speech and jubilee honours!

Here is the King’s Speech:

[box]Citizens of the Realm, Lords and Ladies, friends,

This day marks one year since I succeeded to the throne of this realm, left to me by my departed brother Victor. It has been one year since the great trial and crisis which struck this region we all hold so dear to our hearts low. One year is a long time on NationStates. I would like to express my gratitude to Prince Charles for his good advice, companionship and service as Lord High Chancellor and as Prince of Wales during the past year, as well as to many others. If I started now, I might be done by the year’s end, so I’ll avoid this speech being too long and say to all of you: Thank You! for your interest, hard work, and dedication.

The year has come and gone, but now we must pull together as a region and work towards the future. The recent struggles and strife in Parliament has concerned many of you, and I have heard those concerns. I do not offer a platitude, but instead encourage all of you, each and every citizen, to consider your position within this region. You want better from your MPs, from your Lords, from your government, don’t you? I know I do. I can only do so much, however, given my position. I encourage you all to run for election, join the Civil Service and the Marines. Serve the region, and serve the community that you love. Through hard work everything is possible, and we must remember this at all times.

Thank you all again, so very much, for the hard work and dedication. Long Live the Kingdom of Great Britain! Long Live its people![/box]

Here is the 1st Jubilee Honours list:
[box]
The Rt. Hon Prime Minister Arnold Stuart, Duke of Clarence, Knight of the Order of the Garter

The Rt. Hon Speaker of the House William Stuart MP, Knight of the Order of the Bath

The Hon. Foreign Secretary Edward Valois MP, Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George

The Hon. Education and Culture Secretary Madeline Valois, Dame Companion of the Order of the Bath, Distinguished Service Order.

Allow Us to please provide more detail in this particular instance and explain Our reasoning for the honours above. The Duke of Clarence and Aquitaine, as you all know, has long been a loyal member of this region. His service to the Crown through two successive monarchs is deserving of reknown, but these last few weeks have been particularly trying. Our grandson is noble to a fault, he does not like politics, and never has so far as We know. He took the position of Deputy Prime Minister as a favor to the former Lady Eythorne, with the understanding that most of his work would be behind the scenes. Upon Lady Eythorne’s resignation, he was faced with a difficult dilemma. His previous service in the House of Commons was limited to backbench roles, and while he has had service in the Lords as Deputy Lord High Chancellor, he never sat upon the woolsack for very long. A lesser man might have refused to serve as Prime Minister, but not Our friend the Duke, who took it upon himself the heavy burden of Ten Downing Street, and served well for the final two weeks, preventing a potential fiasco in parliament and an election which might have destroyed the region. His service may not have been particularly long or exciting, but a stable leader is what we needed and is what we got.

The Honourable Speaker, Our well-beloved Cousin, William Stuart, returned to Our busom after a lengthy absence. Perhaps he remembers the young upstart MP with whom he had words on several occasions, and not all of them kind. Regardless, he has returned to us, and rather than shirking duty he threw himself into the leadership of parliament. Having been a former Speaker of the House Ourselves, We sympathize with his role deeply. It is often difficult to divide the House and keep MPs in line and following the Standing Orders and Decorum at all times. His excellence of service in this regard is welcome, and sets the example for you all to meet.

The Honourable Foreign Secretary, the Earl of Carlisle, has again proved his excellence. While a Member of Parliament, his strenuous and principled debates were attention getting while refraining from personal attack and fighting for what he believes. As the Foreign Secretary, Lord Carlisle overhauled the seriously damaged and largely ignored system. While We at times disagree with the Earl, We recognize that this is a good thing. Politics at its core should be about competing ideas, not competing personalities, and what Lord Carlisle showed the realm this term is that it is indeed possible to be both a good politician and a good man.

Finally, as far as Honours go, there is the Education and Culture Secretary. Many of you might not know this, but Madeline Valois began this term with the odds set against her. Each time the bar was placed, she climbed over it and on several occasions picked up the slack under both administrations. Her busy social life notwithstanding, she got her work done ahead of schedule, and hosted a wonderful festival to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Our realm’s founding. Thus, We elevate her to a Dame Companion of the Order of the Bath, and pin the Distinguished Service Order upon her chest with pride.

If you don’t mind, We would like to turn your attention to another member of the Thirty-Third parliament whose service We wish to honour. His name is Asce de Vitre, and he is the Baron of Chepstow. Lord Chepstow has been a member of this region for longer than many realize. He was a member of the parliament which drafted Our constitution, and for that service in Our time of need was raised to the peerage. Today We wish to raise him again. Lord Chepstow has always been a character. His service in both Parliament and the Assembly show him for who he is: a radical leader who understands the needs of the people. He is a democrat. He fundamentally believes that the absolutist institutions of the past are best placed in the past. He has often been challenged, but has never relented. His persistence, his desire for change, and his honesty about his beliefs should be a message to all.

Lord Chepstow’s service is just not limited to parliament. A competent and confident roleplayer, this term Lord Chepstow entered into government to help build the Kingdom of Great Britain’s roleplaying sphere. Roleplay is an essential component to culture building, to solidifying the community and to exploring the one extant part of humanity that all share: a great love of storytelling. Lord Chepstow, then, after conversations with His Royal Britannic Highness the Prince of Wales, is hereby raised to the state of Viscount Peel, of Peel Castle on the Isle of Man. Letters patent shall be posted for organizational purposes at Edinburgh Castle for those who wish to view them.

In addition to legislative and governmental dealings, His Majesty’s Royal Marine Corps was revived by Commandant General, and Prince Royal, James Stuart. This is not the Commandant’s first time leading our military and this time he has a group of dedicated citizens willing to raid and participate in any operations thrown at them.
Over the last month, the military has been quiet with minor training operations and increasing our numbers, as well as reaching out to potential military organizations. Our fearless leadership will continue to find new potential military organizations to work with and allow us to train our new recruits from the basics to the art of triggering and pointing. We are excited to begin new operations within the next couple weeks!

The 34th Session of Parliament

The election for the House of Commons began with the King announcing the number of seats available going from seven to five. This came from the noticing of reduction in regional activity and to ensure those elected are the best possible candidates for the region. At the end of the election, James Stuart was made Speaker of the House and Madeline Norfolk was made Prime Minister.

So far within the government, Prime Minister Norfolk has hit the ground running with many organizational plans as well as a change in the way cabinet members work and work together.

The regional Roleplay, a nation centered rp taking place on the British Isles in the 1920s has continued to gain more and more members, with an in character competition announced revolving around national and international culture! We are currently at 11 nations on our map, and have even experienced a couple miniature wars and some diplomacy!
A New BBC Director

Shortly after the resignation and leave of John Laurens as BBC Director from the previous term, Orion Brann Norfolk stepped up to the plate and has been working with his BBC Staff to create the first issue of the BBC in a long time. We are excited to see what is in store and look forward to seeing the BBC become a more prominent figure within the region.

Regional Reshuffle!!!
https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQnqq-2KU0F4QDbZS3Wlc7DZQyxAGAfcvrgghZph3Zq79kmucIh

The previous Home Secretary, Chiiinnna VerinGuard, was replaced by Bailey Lucullus Norfolk who has already made his mark by his commitment to the Citizenship Registry, which has been further improved and added upon in the most comprehensive ways to ensure all citizens are able to check if they themselves are in compliance, which at minimum requires a living citizen nation in the region and a forum account which has been online within the last 30 days.

Our Prime Minister is currently looking for dedicated citizens interested in the position of Foreign Secretary. Our current member has been plagued by the disease which plagues much of the Nationstates community… education. And as such has forced Foreign Secretary Francis Stuart to go on an indefinite leave of absence. The remaining government members have been assisting the Prime Minister in the duties which the Foreign Secretary requires such as the drafting of this lovely update.

In addition, by elections held for the positions of Mock Parliament Chairman and the constituency of Wales in the House of Commons, following a resignation of the previous chairman and a Vote of No Confidence on the previous Honourable Member of Wales for inactivity. We are happy to announce that Andree Wessex has been elected into the House of Commons as the constituency representative of Wales and Zengel Pigwig-VerinGuard has been elected Chairman of the Mock Parliament!!!

Within the Judiciary, both Associate Justices, JJ Douglas and Georgiana Stewart, have been removed by the House of Lords for both inactivity within the Judiciary and due to their losing of citizenship within the Home Office. Their replacements, while not yet publicly known, are projected to be stunning members of the community who shall be complements to our Chief Justice and reflect positively on the region as a whole.
Calling All Embassies!!!

The executive government has succeeded in creating an updated Foreign Policy to continue to promote the ideals of KoGB. As such, it is recommended to all our allies to review this policy as well as contact the Prime Minister for any questions or concerns regarding Embassy and Consulate updates. All embassies and consulates have one week to be in compliance with our policy or to begin discussions with the Prime Minister regarding relations before the proper processes to reduce relations shall occur. We are also beginning a new Foreign Affairs Outreach program and look forward to the future relations we shall establish!

What’s So Great About Names?
https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT28meuX0atgnTA9YEj0TphwXmCdV8I9O0ixrgZ9QXvMKsEbraZ

Due to the size of the House of Stuart, and the from what looked to be too many branch houses below the royal house, the King issued a formal statement regarding all members of the House of Stuart, which included the families of Pendragon, Arche, Lancaster, Bonaparte, and Valois. The formal statement made it clear that all members of the families mentioned and Stuart shall bear the last name of Stuart and all sub houses are to be abolished. The members of Arche, Lancaster, and Bonaparte were given permission to bear a hyphenation with Stuart if they so wish but are asked to ensure Stuart is present in their name. The Prince of Wales, Charles Lancaster-Stuart, shall continue the hyphenation if he so wishes, but upon ascension of the throne, he must only bear the name Stuart, as that is the Royal House.
You Get Adopted! And You Get Adopted!
https://i.imgflip.com/2e3ud3.jpg

Not everything in the region needs to be serious, and these adoptions are no exception. Over the last three months, we have seen more adoptions into the House of Stuart as well as other non-royal Houses within the region. After the marriage between Madeline Norfolk and Edward Stuart, the two welcomed three boys into the world with twins Orion Brann and Alexander Christian Norfolk-Stuart followed by the youngest of the three Bailey Lucullus Norfolk-Stuart. Orion Brann has been declared the rightful heir to his father’s possessions, estates, and titles. Prior to the newest session of parliament, Alexander and Jaydee Arche-Bonaparte-Stuart welcomed a new son into the world, Smith Ashton Arche-Bonaparte-Stuart. More recently, the Prince Royal bid goodbye to his beloved son, the Honourable Arnold Stuart and welcomed him again as his cousin’s son. Charles Lancaster adopted Arnold in hopes for a positive outlook on the fate of the remains of the Lancaster estate, as well as a proper heir to all the things the Prince of Wales has obtained during his time in The Kingdom of Great Britain.
The adoptions don’t stop there! House de Vitre also welcomed a new family member. Peter John de Vitre has adopted Kurtis Ellison, who is now known as Kurtis de Vitre. Following the adoption, patriarch Asce de Vitre announced the de Vitre line of succession in the event he, or any other members of the de Vitre House are to pass.
It has been a pleasure to bring you this update of KoGB! May it give you all the needed information over the last few months and we hope you shall tune in again for another update to read at the end of the month!

KoGB is current in the 34th Session of Parliament but in the interest of giving a little more detail to make up for our recent diplomatic silence, we have included the last two weeks of the 33rd Session up to this past week of the 34th Session.
The 34th Session of Parliament

The 34th Parliament was very busy throughout the term both in legislation and administration. The infrastructure of the Commons went through recent change as one member was removed via Vote of No Confidence for inactivity and a new speaker was chosen after the original for the 34th session suddenly resigned the position. The House of Lords also voted to remove both Associate Justices of the Supreme Court for inactivity. They have since been replaced by the Lords with two active members of the community!

Legislation was drafted and discussed on a constant throughout both houses of Parliament and many passed both houses including the repeal of a treaty with League of Regions, the establishment of friendship with The Britannic Kingdom, cutting repetitions and ambiguous language out of the Constitution, and specifying what happens to a government member and a Justice should they lose citizenship.

Some Legislation did not get through both houses. A bill regarding referenda in the region was struck down, an amendment to the constitution that changes all “Imperials” to “Royals” was struck down.

Bills that were started in the 34th terms that have carried over to the 35th include the controversial AntiFa policy which will officially establish the Kingdom of Great Britain as part of a coalition against Fascist/Nazi regions. The Treaty of Loker-London, a treaty of friendship between Kingdom of Great Britain and Hartfelden, has also been carried over into the current session.

Overall, Parliament is active as ever and running full steam ahead. It will be exciting to see where they go in the next months.

The Honours of the 34th Session of Parliament was particularly long in comparison to terms of the past. We are ecstatic to have been able to recognize such amazing people in the region, but old souls and new souls alike! Check them out below:

Military Awards
This begins, of course with a departure in tradition. Usually under these circumstances it is Our custom to issue knighthoods to the Government first, but, this time, We instead choose to honour three notable individuals for their service in the military capacity. Our Corps of Royal Marines has oft been ignored at these ceremonies, but with its revitalization under the Commandant and Deputy Commandant of Our Corps, We hope sincerely that from here on out the military may do more things worth rewarding. First shall be the Commandant, Our beloved Son the Prince Royal, who did work completely unkown to many, including Ourselves, until recent events caused Us to look deeper into what little records existed in the previous HMCRM subforum on the old forums. Thus, he is being granted the Military’s highest honor, the Victoria Cross.

The second military award goes to Lady Madeline Norfolk-Stuart. Lady Madeline has worked extremely hard rebuilding Our military which was struck low so long ago. When she started her work she was barely out of her cadetship, a Lieutenant of the Marines, and through dedication and sacrifice she worked her way up to the position of Deputy Commandant and has continued to further Our Corps of Marines’ associations with other military organizations. For this and her service in the field of battle against Our enemies abroad, Lady Madeline Norfolk-Stuart is hereby granted the Distinguished Conduct Medal.

Last but by no means least, We wish to recognize Our great-nephew, His Royal Highness Prince Arnold, the Duke of Clarence and Aquitaine, for his service as the director of MI5. His labours are not well known to many of you, Our subjects, but We shall explain them now. His Royal Highness’ work concerns the security of Our realm. All citizenship applications which past through the Home Office are subject to his approval, and in concert with the Home Office in particular and the Government in general, he provides valuable and necessary security and intelligence to keep out those who would do this community harm. Therefore, HRH the Duke of Clarence and Aquitaine is hereby granted the George Medal.
Civilian Awards
The Right Honourable Prime Minister, in her wisdom, has suggested the following persons for knighthoods for their services to the Realm during her time in government, and for her own services she is granted the Honour of Lady of the Order of the Thistle.

The Honourable Home Secretary, Bailey Lucullus Norfolk-Stuart, is hereby made Companion of the Order of the Bath.

His Royal Britannic Highness the Prince of Wales and His Royal Highness the Duke of Clarence and Aquitaine are also to be granted further Honours. This term has seen the notable lack of a Foreign Secretary. The Foreign Secretary is an important role, ho, in particular, individuals in particular have stood up to fill the gap. HRBH the Prince of Wales and his beloved son, HRH the Duke of Clarence, have worked particularly hard this term in the field of Foreign Affairs outside of their usual duties. Therefore, at the recommendation of the Prime Minister, they have been granted the Honour of COMPANION of the MOST DISTINGUISHED ORDER OF SAINT MICHAEL AND SAINT GEORGE.

The Prime Minister has also recommended The Rev. Kurtis De Vitre, The Most Reverend Archbishop Albert Stuart of Canterbury, and Philip Victorious be rewarded the Honour of KNIGHT BACHELOR of the Realm for their service in keeping the forum active and alive during the lean months of the Fall School Term. They have Our thanks for their service, and Our hope that it continues.

Finally, at Our own discretion, We hereby award The Honourable Deputy Prime Minister Alastair McIntyre, and Our Principle Private Secretary, the dignity of membership in the IMPERIAL SECRETARIAT AWARD. Mr. McIntyre’s service as Principle Private Secretary has been, to use a single word, excellent. He has, since he has been taken into Our service, to be among the best We have seen. We thank him, and grant him this honour in the hope that his service to Us might continue.

The 35th Session of Parliament

The election for the House of Commons began where we had six individuals running for the five seats within the House of Commons. Below is an outline of each candidate’s platform for those running for Parliament.

Madeline Norfolk’s platform consisted of increased cultural and regional activities such as game nights, voice chat nights, increased interaction with NS and forum, competition, and renewed effort in the RP. One of the key planks of her platform was to pass the Antifa Policy which had failed in the previous term. She also stated her intent to remain as Prime Minister.

Alastair McIntyre’s platform consisted of rewriting the Endorsement Act, which deals with WA endorsements and the Delegate. He wanted to keep an eye out and amend any bill, law, or the constitution when he deems necessary. One such amendment would come to the Citizenship Act. He also wanted to rewrite and pass a regional referendum bill.

Theodore Lewis Uchiha’s platform detailed his goals of facilitating the growth of both a regional library, the university, and other cultural endeavors. He promised not to be a rubber stamp. And to work with them to make sure that we are passing laws that will actually benefit the region.

Bailey Lucullus Norfolk-Stuart’s platform was to make sure that the public is fully informed, that everything done is in their best interest and that questions are not left unanswered.

Albert Philip Stuart’s platform was to take a pragmatic perspective to review all governmental policy and vote on proposals based on merit. Introduce an amendment to the constitution and laws where necessary. Also, work and propose a legislative proposal/bill on the administration of educational institution within the region. He also noted his intent on running for Speaker.

Andree Wessex’s platform was to increase the performance of the BBC, to propose a referendum on the Antifa Policy, to fix the issue of abstention, and to propose a new policy or law allowing the Speaker to punish rule breakers in the Commons.

The elections have concluded the winners are as follows - Madeline Norfolk, Ind 15 votes (20.00%); Alastair McIntyre, Ind 15 votes (20.00%); Theodore Lewis Uchiha, BRP15 votes (20.00%); Bailey Lucullus Norfolk-Stuart, Ind 13 votes (17.33%) ; Albert Philip Stuart, BRP 12 votes (16.00%). Andree Wessex, BRP 5 votes (6.67%) was the only one to lose.

In the Commons, The British Royalist Party picked up a net gain of one seat after it gained two new members but its one incumbent member, Andree Wessex lost re-election. While the BRP is the only organized party in the Commons, it still does not occupy a majority of the seats.

His Majesty called the following to sit in the House of Lords - His Royal Britannic Highness, The Prince of Wales; His Grace, The Duke of Clarence and Aquitaine; His Lordship, The Marquess of Ellesmere; His Lordship, The Viscount Peel; His Lordship, The Earl of Warwick.

Albert Philip Stuart of the BRP was elected by the Commons to serve as the Right Honourable Speaker. He has so far not named a deputy but is reported to be deciding one soon. With the seats filled, His Majesty opened up the Parliament. A Government was soon organized, as Madeline Norfolk was chosen to continue her service as the Right Honourable Prime Minister. The Government she organized in the name of His Majesty is as follows - Deputy Prime Minister: Alastair McIntyre Stuart; Home Secretary: Bailey Lucullus Norfolk; Foreign Secretary: Claire A. Arche; Culture Secretary: Artimedias; Deputy Culture Secretary: Theodore Lewis Uchiha; Attorney General: Alastair McIntyre Stuart.

With the resounding success Prime Minister Norfolk easily regained her post as Prime Minister and has organized a popular government backed with widespread support. Only time will tell how well this term will fair for the Prime Minister, HM Government, and the Parliament.

After the reelection of Prime Minister Madeline Norfolk appointed Bailey Lucullus Norfolk-Staurt as the new Director. The Director has made it clear he intends to have more issues pushed out as well as more citizen interaction with the BBC than in term’s past. Within the coming weeks, we should see more articles written in regards to the elections, political parties, interregional politics, the roleplay itself, and much more!
All About the Roleplay

The RP world in the Kingdom of Great Britain has gone through its first 20 months! So far, we’ve had a handful of international incidents, but only a few people have died!
The first war broke out when a group of terrorists staged a conflict between Alistarton and Wrexham, leading to a catastrophic defeat of the Alistartian 4th army and 5th fleet on the shores of Norweston.
In the heat of the early summer months, a new nation sought to make itself known. In a show of force it’s army traversed the earth to the Alistartian border, provoking the start of the great war. Despite its short length, millions were killed before Merdinghaw surrendered to the combined arms of Alistarton, Wrexham, and Norweston. A year later, an international holiday is put into place to remember the dead.
War isn’t the only killer of nations though. Over time the nations of Siento, Norweston, Lancaster, and Ulster dissolved into anarchy when their leaders were killed by a mysterious plague. The Queendom of Marrigoldria is searching for a cure to this silent killer.
While other nations descend, others pull themselves out of anarchy and into civilization. The new nations of Thamean and Erbilstan have reached the world stage, and are sure to make an impact.

P.S. Orion owes me some islands.

Here is the map and the list of nations involved (note: most are fictional nations and not actual nations in KoGB)
Grey: Republic of the Steel
Light Blue: Alistarton
Purple: The Grand Duchy of East Anglia
Red: Wrexham
Light Green: Merdinghaw
Maroon: Cerulea

Mock Parliament News and Intentions

Recently Elected Chairwoman Claire A. Arche was willing to provide a summary of the Mock Parliament and her intentions for the term!

[box]Being the Chair of the Mock Parliament is not an easy task. It carries responsibilities and with it late night worries of the survival of the institution. I made it my cause during the Mock Chair Election to aid in restoring the Mock Parliament’s health as a stable body.

Upon confirmation by the Crown Delegate, I took up a portfolio that at one time was being debated for abolishment. The core of the Mock Parliament is the activity of its Chair and the inactivity of my predecessors have resulted in a decline of the body. With this, even the citizenry take the body lightly. There is a rise in activity however it will be a continuous effort to maintain that decent growth.

As we speak, the Mock Parliament has a lot on its table. We are amending Standing Orders, confirmation votes and voting on role-play legislation. These shall be completed within the set timeframe. I have outlined a list of legislative agenda readied for the Mock Parliament which I plan to execute together with my Deputy Chair.

The Mock Parliament was the first body that really attracted me when I joined the region. It has much potential in a sense that people who are new or without major positions can actually participate in regional governance. Its membership consists of the whole citizenry and thus acts as a platform to call for government accountability. With the Mock Parliament, there is not a need for established ranks and titles to make your voice heard and considered. It is a cherished institution that should be preserved and improved.[/box]

BBC BREAKING NEWS War is Here: Statement From The Prime Minister

Good morning to all those who are watching or reading this. Today I received confirmation that His Majesty the King has declared war on the New Pacific Order, and and I come before you to explain - both to our citizens and to our allies and friends reading along - why I recommended that such a measure be taken.

The King called upon Parliament to deliberate The Kingdom of Great Britain’s fate in regards to this war which many regions have entered into. After much discussion and deliberation, Parliament unanimously agreed that war was the best option for The Kingdom of Great Britain.

This comes shortly after our friend and ally, Hartfelden, called upon The Kingdom of Great Britain to act and assist.

The Kingdom of Great Britain, therefore, declares war onto the New Pacific Order.

For too long the NPO has been allowed to hold the Pacific hostage as they destroy alliances, harbor dangerous players, ruin communities, and cause unnecessary division between Game Created Regions and User Created Regions through their ideals of Francoism. As more and more is revealed regarding the strife it has caused in other regions, it has become clear that the NPO must face the consequences of its misdeeds, and be put to a long-overdue end.

I have confidence in the many regions already fighting this fight, and I have confidence in both my fellow citizens and the citizens of our allies and brothers in arms. I have confidence that the military of The Kingdom of Great Britain shall rise to the occasion, and ensure we offer whatever support we can to the coalition which shall bring the NPO to its knees in defeat.

I have confidence that the people of this region will ensure the home front remains a positive and inviting environment, to continue to foster positive relations between members and guests of the region. We will not rest until the NPO has been brought to an end and it is with the help of fellow players, the drivers of the communities at large, that we shall succeed.

I ask any regions which are hesitant to take a stand against the NPO to imagine how they would feel if they were in the positions that so many regions have been placed into. Even if it is a simple denouncement, in the end, it will make all the difference. NPO is dangerous and will continue to be a danger to the community at large until they are stopped.

I ask any citizens who are hesitant to involve themselves in this war to remember that war means more than military numbers, it requires a strong community at home and able-bodied citizens keeping things going to ensure success. This government will be doing everything we can to keep citizens involved in all things we are doing. And that continues today.

NPO delenda est!

Midterm Polling by the BBC
https://i.imgur.com/BKl7tKj.jpg

Excerpt from Aelita Ep. 1, BBC:

With the BBC midterm polls underway, and the Mock Parliament polls concluded, results have begun pouring in. The Mock Parliament poll revealed a startling result - only seven people responded to the poll at all, leading to concern regarding the value of the Mock Parliament in the eyes of the citizenry.

The responses so far to the BBC Midterm Poll confirm this, with more than 70% of respondents unsatisfied. Many find it inactive, ineffective, and nonfunctional.

Concerns about inactivity reach beyond the Mock Parliament, however, besmirching the BBC, Lords, Cabinet, and Judiciary.

Overall, most people so far are satisfied with the state of the region, but the majority of people are unsatisfied with the Government, the Mock Parliament, and the Military.

The military is facing particularly scathing criticism for its leadership and for being involved with the “Antifa” movement, with numerous responses either asking the military to leave Antifa or stating that people cannot join the military due to its involvement to Antifa. Leadership is described as “terrible” or “tense” to a degree that people don’t want to be involved, and failures to lead by example are dominating the concerns.

Cabinet Shuffle and Government Work
https://i.imgur.com/eMQvFtA.jpg?1
Larry the Cat remains a fixture at 10 Downing Street regardless of the revolving door of politicians.

Earlier in November, the Prime Minister announced that she would be conducting a Cabinet Reshuffle, involving the Secretary of State for the Home Office and the Secretary of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. On the 2nd of December, Madeline Norfolk, the Prime Minister, announced her changes.

Bailey Lucullus Norfolk-Stuart, the outgoing Home Secretary, was replaced by Alexander Arche whilst Edward Windsor returned to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Both new members of the Cabinet were also founding members, alongside the Prime Minister and Khanter W. Molchaniye of the new Freedom and Equality Party that currently holds a majority in the House of Commons.

10 days later, the Prime Minister also announced the appointment of a new BBC Director; Aelita Venzalor.

Shortly after the results of the Midterm Polls were posted, the Prime Minister issued an ultimatum for her cabinet, take the results as they are and work together to be a better government, or resign. The former Deputy Culture Secretary handed in his resignation.

The Prime Minister has been mainly under scrutiny due to the sudden pull of the Treaty of Loker-London, which has led to many citizens being particularly outspoken about her actions, or lack thereof in attempts to rectify the situation. Despite the Prime Minister’s best attempts to clarify what happened and how everything she could have done was done, Members of the Opposition still claim she is unable to handle Foreign Affairs and that she as Prime Minister has been harmful to the region. The Prime Minister has attempted to counter these claims by encouraging people to actually get involved with the ministries rather than point fingers at only problems and not pose solutions, as many who have been her greatest critiques are some of the least involved regionally.

On a more positive note, The Kingdom of Great Britain has been at the highest nation to citizen ratio in a long time. With over 210 nations, we have roughly 55 citizens and while not all of them are active daily, old and new faces alike are coming to the region with interest to get involved. The Culture Secretary alongside the Prime Minister and their advisors within the Royal RolePlay Committee have kept citizens engaged through a riveting roleplay which now holds 20 nations duking it out in the 1920s. Currently, updates are occurring to make the roleplay easier to work with which includes adding specific resources, guided military warfare, scale, and more to come. The Culture Secretary hopes to issue one final large update before the end of the term.

Following many discussions and plannings within her Cabinet, the Prime Minister issued three new executive orders. The first repealed two Executive Orders which were not of the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister to issue. The second and third formally established the Home Office and the Office of Culture, Media, and Sport, or the Culture Office for short. With this also outlined a clearer path as to what exactly these offices do. The Home Office has been slowly etching away from the thankless work of Master Citizenship List maintenance and is moving towards more interaction and guides. The Culture Office has been given a facelift with clearer guides as to what exactly it is responsible for beyond roleplay maintenance.

Trouble in Parliament?
https://i.imgur.com/2mBGF7x.jpg

The 35th Session of Parliament has been nothing but interesting for both the citizens and the Members of Parliament. Following the Midterm Polls results and the official formation of a Majority and Opposition within the House of Commons, the Opposition took the opportunity to issue their concerns regarding the government and conduct of the Prime Minister.

Discussions became particularly heated during a debate on a Regional Library shortly after the Prime Minister agreed with the Lord High Chancellor of the House of Lords that the proposal could just be an Executive Order. This followed the House of Commons unanimously agreeing to send the proposal to the House of Lords with the intention of making it law. Questions regarding the Prime Minister’s true intentions arose, as well as stark opposition from regarding making the Regional Library apart of an Executive Order. The Lords still passed the Regional Library Act with a 3-2-0 backing.
When it returned to the House of Commons, accusations that the Prime Minister was attempting to steal the intellectual property of the Opposition and that the Majority was attempting to ensure the Opposition did not have a single act of legislation established during the term flew. In the end, the act of legislation was voted down by the Majority and issued within an Executive Order.

Tensions grew further during a heated attack onto the Prime Minister for failure to foresee the Kaiser Friedrich I von Hartfelden invoking Article VI of the Treaty of Loker-London. The greatest shock onto the citizenry was due to the timing of the invocation, which was hours after the region formally declared war on the NPO. Accusations flew and questions from the Opposition regarding the Prime Minister’s competence in foreign affairs arose and questions as to why the Prime Minister didn’t do anything to fix the issues brought up by the Kaiser. The Prime Minister explained the situation and explained that she was unaware the invocation would occur. She had attempted to rectify the issues upon the post being made in the Hartfelden Embassy, but in the end, differing views on the future of the regions together overshadowed the potential of good relations, and so the Treaty was ultimately repealed by Parliament.

The last few sessions of Prime Minister’s Questions, where the House of Commons may ask the Prime Minister about anything regarding legislative policy, government policy, regional affairs, the Prime Minister has answered many questions regarding her opinions about the War on NPO, the repealing of treaties, behaviors of citizens, and what her government has been doing to properly balance around the negativity brought during the term.

Last week, following several breaches in the Standing Orders, the Prime Minister called a Vote of No Confidence of the Speaker, indicating that she does not believe he is right for the job due to failure to uphold the Standing Orders and joining the other member of the Opposition in personal attacks upon the Prime Minister during a legislative debate. The Speaker fired back with his own Vote of No Confidence of the Prime Minister, indicating that while he is the Speaker, she is the Prime Minister and should be setting the example rather than lowering herself into ad hominem attacks. This then led to a choice to either call for an early election or come to a consensus and work together as a House of Honour instead of a House of Dishonour as a few posts would indicate. The Speaker and Prime Minister ultimately decided to work out the issues within the House of Commons to end the term on a more positive note, as they had during the beginning of the term.

Following the agreement and apologies issued by the Speaker and Prime Minister, a debate occurred out of a proposal to make Parliament a more efficient body. The Majority had concerns regarding the intentions as if the proposal was made into law, past legislation would be thrown out, and as the Lords sometimes take a while to address everything sent by the House of Commons, the Majority feared animosity would be sewn between the Houses. The Opposition responded with emphasis that the point is to allow Parliament to start fresh each term instead of dealing with the skeletons of the past term. After days of discussion without much compromise being found, a Member of Parliament motioned to vote, declaring that since compromise could not be found, then the results will be seen in the vote. This was seconded and the vote started. The vote was however put on hold by request of the Prime Minister who intended to find compromise and played her hand that the Majority will vote the proposal down if a compromise is not met. Following this move, the House of Commons came to a compromise and passed the bill 4-0-0, with one member failing to appear to vote. The makeup of the bill still reflected the intentions of the authors but also allowed for the Houses to make a choice regarding whether or not they will look at legislation from previous terms.

In addition to amendments and acts, repeals of treaties have been in the works, which included the repeal of the treaties with The Galactic Order and Hartfelden.

Over 15 pieces of legislation have gone through the doors of the House of Commons this term, we shall see if more follow suit before dissolution.

Mock Parliament Citizens’ Assembly, Where are We Now?
https://i.imgur.com/RDJaxrU.jpg

Following the removal and replacement of Claire A. Arche as Chairperson of the Mock Parliament, Peter John de Vitre promised to revitalize the Mock Parliament and promote activity with riveting discussions and new bills. Unfortunately, this has yet to happen. The midterm polls showed that citizens were dissatisfied with the Mock Parliament, questioning its purpose as few seem to know why it exists. Others seemed to have no idea what the Mock Parliament actually does. Philip Victorius has proven himself one dedicated to the Mock Parliament as he has proposed one major piece within the Mock Parliament to change the name of Mock Parliament to “Citizens’ Assembly” and have PMQ-esque weekly questions for the Chair, which has already passed in the House of Commons. The amendment passed the House of Lords on January 4th, 2019 and was given assent on January 6th, 2019. Other than that, no changes have occurred to the now Citizens’ Assembly. No other proposals have been brought to the table and questions on if anything new will be done have arisen.

The Judiciary is Alive!

Following the creation of procedures of the court, Edward Stuart handed his resignation to the King and Prime Minister, indicating that he felt it called to return to the political scene to allow for the potential of more variety in the Hosue of Commons in the upcoming term. His resignation was met with both excitement and regret, as Edward Stuart was a fantastic Associate Justice. Nonetheless, the search is on for a replacement. The Prime Minister made an announcement indicating that she would not be rushing to provide the King with recommendations and that any citizens interested in the position should contact her to discuss why they believe to be a good fit. All candidates who contact the Prime Minister will have their answers to any questions asked relayed to the King. We are excited to see who exactly this new face will be!

Royal Updates

The last month has been very busy for the reigning family of the Kingdom of Great Britain, the Royal House of Stuart. James Stuart stepped down as Prince Royal stating that the pressures and requirements of him were not what he was looking for in NationStates and would like to experience again the simple life as a member of the Royal Family. Shortly after his stepping down, James Stuart married Aelita Venzalor, who is the Queen of The Great British Union, a region only a month old and already over 100 nations in size. With the seat of Prince/Princess Royal now vacant, the King has been deliberating as to whom shall be next.

Alexander Arche, as a Christmas present to the King, changed his name back to Leopold Arche, as old names can’t really be shaken once you’ve made a name for yourself.

Military Updates
https://i.imgur.com/CvTBa1E.jpg

Following the joining of AntiFa and the joining of the war on the NPO, the military has faced many concerns from the citizenry. Some had gone so far as to blame the leadership for the low numbers and low participation overall in the military. Due to circumstances outside of the region’s control, the military faced more backlash as we have been unable to assist in the war on NPO due to the military no longer having their in with other regions involved in operations against the NPO. Some citizens went so far as to question why we joined a war with no allies to allow us to help.

In other news, the leadership of AntiFa, welcomed our region officially as an ambassador was stationed within AntiFa HQ. AntiFa has been a helping hand in keeping our military fresh during the rather difficult last month and a half.

Former Commandant General James Stuart retired from the regional military officially January 1st and the leadership he entrusted to keep the military going have been hard at work to prepare for the hopeful influx of more members of the military. The King and leadership are hopeful that these changes will encourage citizens to join and become involved. Plans for operations and joint operations are in the works as the new year brings out from hibernation a few rusty points and triggers.

The King issued a new order, dissolving the position of Commandant General and making the leadership of the military is made up of the senior command rather than a single individual. This plan was to ensure the weight of responsibility regarding the military is evenly distributed amongst several officers instead of all the weight being on the shoulders of a single commander. Parliament subsequently passed an amendment to the Constitution to formally allow the position to be abolished. As it stands the constitution states that:
“In the event that legal prosecution of the Monarch becomes necessary, the Commandant General of the Marine Corps may petition the House of Lords and the House of Commons to form a joint session and vote on whether to allow military prosecution to proceed. If approved, the trial is carried out by the Commandant General and other ranking members of the military”
This will instead be changed so that instead of Commandant General it will be the next highest ranking officer of the Corps, in the event that there is more than one officer of the next highest rank, the officer who has been in the Corps the longest shall head it and be considered superior.

Other reforms in the military have occurred, which includes archiving of old discord channels, more usage of the forum, a new ranking system to better reflect abilities of ranks, plans to review all individuals in their ranks and determine if their rank reflects their abilities, if not, a promotion or reduction of rank may occur, and a general pardon for a fresh start onto all former members of the Marines who were discharged due to inactivity, so that all citizens may freely join the military without judgment based upon actions of the past.

Following the appointment of Aelita to the position of BBC Director, the BBC has been an active force in both providing the region with comical updates regarding the region and providing real-world informational updates.

Aelita has become a hit as holding an interview with a prominent figure within the region as well as providing updates in regional affairs.
Lita Unleashed has become a hit as well, holding its own with a more upfront and uncensored version of opinions and outlooks of affairs. With callouts of behaviors of officials to demands of the government to make more use of their forums this show is not one to miss.

Aelita has been a shining beacon in the once desolate land of the BBC, and we hope to see many more issues and other employees of the BBC coming out with their own content and opinions!

Elections and a New Parliament
https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/960907082248663040/1HB2uTb2_400x400.jpg

In January the people of the Kingdom of Great Britain went to the polls to vote for Parliament once again. The campaign season was active with many candidates vying to be Members of Parliament or perhaps the next Prime Minister. The election was held on January 13th and a healthy 31 people voted to elect 7 candidates to the House of Commons.

After the polls were closed results showed that the next Parliament would be hung with the Freedom and Equality Party getting three seats, the British Royalist Party getting two seats, and two independents, Edward Stuart and Artimedias, getting elected. However, the selection of the Prime Minister would not be a tough decision to make. Two term Prime Minister Madeline Norfolk announced her intentions to stand for a third term and was given the confidence of the House of Commons to sit for a third term, the House of Lords would give their confidence not long after.

The Prime Minister soon announced her cabinet for the term. This cabinet will be charged with carrying out her plans for the term and helping make her third term as successful, in the eyes of the voters, as the other two. For Deputy Prime Minister she announced that one of her closest advisers, Khanter Molchaniye, would serve in the position entrusting him with all the tasks and responsibilities of the office. For Home Secretary she announced Bailey Lucullus Norfolk-Stuart, a long time resident of the region who has worked in government before. For her Foreign Secretary she announced that Francis Stuart, who has held the position on many occasions, would fill the role. She decided that Artimedias, her Culture Secretary from the previous term would stay on for this term as well. She also decided to keep Alastair McIntyre Stuart as Attorney General.

Parliament quickly got to work after being opened. Some members of the House of Commons began working on repealing the Independent Manifesto which has caused serious debate within the House as to whether it should be repealed or not as it is part of the identity of the KoGB Royal Marine Corps. Furthermore, there are discussions going on in the Commons about how the World Assembly Delegate should be removed whether it be with the advice of the Prime Minister or if the power should lay with Parliament. The House of Lords also got to work quick after taking their seats. The Lords rejected the nominee for the Supreme Court with many members citing lack of experience and an incident that happened not long after he entered the region. The Lords also unanimously rejected the Popular Advisory Referendum Act sending it back to the Commons.

Thank you for the update.

The 36th Imperial Parliament: In a Nutshell

https://i.imgur.com/m8UwYwn.jpg

The 36th Royal Parliament experienced a stagnation of regional legislation in favor of internal growth and turmoil, while also experiencing some successful external outreach. Seven members of Parliament were elected Freedom and Equality Party (FEP) coming in just shy of a majority, acquiring three MPs, with two seats being claimed by the British Royalist Party (BRP) and two being taken up by independent candidate at the start of the term. Shortly after the election, MP and Deputy Culture Secretary Theodore Lewis, along with the Marquess of Ellesmere and Viscount Peel broke off from their respective parties in favor of forming the WUP, or Wheat and Union Party. Prime Minister Norfolk in her third term experienced backlash within the region from two separate Op-Eds as well as her own interview with the BBC.
The 36th Royal Parliament experienced slight bouts of stagnation regarding legislation. Many MPs ran with the main goal of “fixing” the House of Commons to prevent the explosive and harmful behaviors of certain MPs near the end of the 35th Parliament’s term. This started an early debate with a large Standing Orders amendment, which many have publicly and privately criticized for breaking the tradition and nature of the House of Commons in favor for allowing new MPs to ease into their position and making sure MPs really do know what they can motion for. Meanwhile, the Lords brought out discussions about various ways of rectifying an issue of Lords being unable to express their discontent with the government, as well as a bill to repurpose the Bar Association. The Lords also debated and passed back to the House of Commons a bill to include the Lords in PMQs, which has been traditionally only held within the House of Commons with MPs. This change was further passed and the Prime Minister was able to have further discussions with the House of Lords within PMQs.
22 items were discussed within the House of Commons and 17 items were discussed in the House of Lords with a total of 7 items receiving assent. This included repeals of now defunct treaties, a change to PMQs to allow the Lords participation, further changes to the Citizen’s Assembly, and a hopeful revitalization of the Bar Association.

The Norfolk Premiership, End of an Era?
https://i.imgur.com/Qy7S47L.jpg

Following an explosive electoral season, Prime Minister Norfolk secured her third consecutive term as Prime Minister, a feat few have sought after and a fewer few have achieved. In the Prime Minister’s opening address, she included her cabinet and plans to make the region better, which included a focus on utilizing the new Executive Orders on Home and Culture, discussing regional matters more publicly on the forum, holding cabinet members to a higher level, and observing what more needs to be improved internally so that we can begin our bettering of relations with regions externally.
The Prime Minister sent two Associate Justice candidates to the King for the Lords to confirm or deny for the position, Charlie Beckett and then Aelita Venzalor. By the end of the term however, the position has once again become vacant, the Prime Minister indicated during a session of PMQs that it would be best to wait for the Bar Association to become officially established and citizens begin to be trained in law before anyone else should be sent to the Lords for confirmation.
Throughout the term, the government experienced two changes. First, there was the sudden resignation of Smith Arche from the government and region, for reasons unknown beyond he just wasn’t interested anymore. Second, Foreign Secretary Francis Stuart was replaced with William Stuart, so that Francis may focus on IRL without fear of disappointment for being unable to attend to his duties in the Foreign Office.
Roll calls and reassignments throughout the Civil Service were held, and the Prime Minister’s cabinet remained active members in the Civil Service for, in the addition of working in their own department, each cabinet member was required to join a department in the Civil Service not of their own and remain active, or face removal. This was the Prime Minister’s attempt to promote having well-rounded cabinet members, who support one another in more than just moral. The Culture Secretary began further work with the Royal Role-play Committee (RRPC) in bringing more and better updates to the current regional role-play. The Home Secretary began creating guides to the region, starting with how to apply for citizenship. The Foreign Secretary began reviewing current embassies and consulates as well as looking into new regions to begin or better relations with. The Attorney General began his work in the Bar Association. The Deputy Prime Minister began his talks with various GCRs in an attempt to start thawing the cold relations with some while opening the door to relations with others. By the end of February, TRR had agreed to allow for us to have a consulate in their region!!! We are excited to begin these relations with TRR and thank them immensely for allowing us this opportunity. In addition, we look forward to bettering our relations with TEP as well as the more recent TNP.
The Prime Minister issued a statement within her removal and replacement of the BBC Director regarding her 4th term as Prime Minister. She indicated that she will not be going for a 4th term, mostly due to her need to readjust her focus in Nationstates, as well as allowing someone else the opportunity to do her job. Madeline Norfolk had been Prime Minister for nearly 200 days and looks forward to taking a break while other citizens take the work she started and continues it. She issued a direct statement stating “Many of you believe that you can do what I do and do it better. Today, I challenge you to start proving it now.” And that challenge shall be met in the upcoming election.
In celebration of the end of her term, citizens were encouraged to write satirical articles about Norfolk’s cabinet, the King, and the region in general. In addition, Prime Minister Norfolk is currently hosting a Roast/Gloat night where citizens who have worked with her throughout her 3 terms can celebrate everything that has been accomplished. As of the writing of this update, the celebration has been a great success with surprises ranging from helicopter arrivals and even a special visit from the King!

Royal Updates
https://i.imgur.com/JsESYeX.jpg

This past month has brought us many updates from the Royals! To start off, the House of Arche has been renamed to the House of Roth in a move by Prince Leopold to break away from the bad reputation that has been behind the Arche name and to secure the Germanic history of the house. In other news, the appointment of a new Prince Royal was announced on the 17th of February, with the Marquess of Ellesmere, Leopold Roth, being elevated to the position following the retirement of James Stuart, the Duke of Richmond, Gordon, Lennox and Earl. The elevation merely serves to confirm that Lord Ellesmere is senior member of the Royal Family, who has earned himself the dignity of this title with hard work and dedication to the region in numerous different offices.
In the more important news, His Royal Britannic Majesty Henry IX was married on [date] to his fiance from outside of NationStates, something we in the Kingdom of Great Britain celebrate. The region was overjoyed when Her Royal Highness Magda Anette Astrid Glucksberg-Stuart officially joined the game. She was granted the full title of: Her Royal Highness the Queen Consort Magda Anette Astrid Glucksberg-Stuart of Great Britain, Ireland, and France, Duchess of Orkney, Countess of Flintshire, and Baroness Adare of Adare in the County of Limerick. We wish the King and Queen-Consort the best of marriages.
To conclude with the Royal Biz, His Royal Britannic Majesty Henry IX changed how royal styles work in the family! Now, members of the royal family do not automatically assume the styles of HH or HRH; they now are handed to select people through Letters Patent. With this, His Royal Britannic Majesty Henry IX is certain that the family will become more meritocratic and unify the family rather than divide it through competition.

Military, Where Are We Now?
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/494983900188246016/555511017086517249/m14.jpg

It’s already been two months since the military reforms, and the rebirth of the Royal Marine Corps of KoGB. Captain General Khanter Molchaniye summarized the happenings within the military below:
“Lately, the region has experienced apprehension towards becoming apart of the military, some due to being uninterested in that side of gameplay, and others due to KoGB’s involvement in Antifa, which has continued to be a topic for controversy. Some more conservative citizens have argued that Antifa would harm the image of KoGB, which quite frankly, KoGB does not have much of an image to further harm given how we are still viewed after the events of Fall 2017. The image has improved, but we have a long way to go. When we joined AntiFa, we had one goal in mind: bash the fash, and that has been what we have done. KoGB has participated in several operations with AntiFa.
In an attempt to make peace with the citizens apprehensive about involvement in the military, the Captain General created the ACCO, where citizens may be able to air their concerns regarding the military and be allowed to join without being punished for refusing to participate in operations that go against their beliefs, morals, etc. Unfortunately, the ACCO never took off and was recently abolished due to no one joining or using the ACCO, in addition to the previously appointed member of the military taking little initiative in making the ACCO the hub of military recruitment.
The abolition of the ACCO followed an operation with AntiFa, where the Council recruited several citizens for the sole purpose of participation. A total of 9 marines jumping, including the King and the Captain General who trigger jumped. While we did not get the delegacy, we returned a second time and took it with a total of 30 something people assisting in gaining the delegacy. Following these two operations, the military has been reinvigorated in involvement, and plans for more operations more often are in the near future. I am happy to see the military finally grow, it makes me happy because it means I can promote people more often!”
The marines have grown to a total of 12 from the original 6 where one has transferred from reserves to active duty. The hope is to see further growth and involvement as KoGB’s foreign affairs continues to grow.

KING SECRETLY MARRIES MYSTERIOUS FOREIGN PRINCESS

04 March, 2019
The Daily Tea has confirmed reports from palace aides that did not wish to be named that King Henry IX secretly eloped with a foreign princess from Norway.
The mysterious Princess Magda and the aging King are said to have married in a private ceremony at Crathie Kirk, a small Church of Scotland church outside the Balmoral Estate grounds that the Royal Family regularly attends while in residence at Balmoral during special occasions.
Speculation began a week ago when our reporters heard from witnesses that multiple cars belonging to senior members of the Royal Family appeared near the estate although there was no announcement from the Palace of any special occasion or retreat. Members of the family such as the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Clarence and Aquitaine were not in the House of Lords, and the Earl of Carlisle was absent from the Speaker’s chair in the House of Commons for much of the weekend. When our reporters reached out to their offices, their spokespeople had no comments on their whereabouts. The Duke of Clarence’s recognizable 1994 Reliant Robin was spotted in an auto shop at a village near the Balmoral Estate, and the Lord Chamberlain Henry Norfolk was seen in the park with a bouquet of flowers in one hand, and a suit covered in a black garment cover in the other. At the Balmoral railway station, witnesses saw a young woman in a dark trench coat and reflective fedora step off a train with a Norwegian flag on the side flanked by bodyguards. On the other side of the train, a couple wearing similar clothing said to be the King and Queen of Norway were seen being whisked to a black unmarked Range Rover.
The only maiden princess is the Norwegian Royal Family is Princess Magda, youngest of the Norwegian King’s seven children. Little is known about Magda since she has remained out of public view and has not been pictured at official state events since childhood.
The Palace did not respond when we reached out for comment, and the King returned with his entourage to Buckingham Palace late Sunday, pictured without a mysterious young woman.
We caught up with a local and asked her what she thought if the King had eloped:
“It would be disappointin if the King secretly  married some silly foreigner,” said 74 year old Mary Dobbins, a local innkeeper, “We ave got enough foreigners arriving on our shores and stealing our jobs, and some silly wee foreign Viking lass is going tae be the one tae marry our King? He should get with a proper Scottish lass like me instead! I’ve always fancied him teehee”.
This is Morgs Pierson reporting from Balmoral, Scotland, and that’s the Tea!

Another Speaker Resigns After Showdown with CA Chair
Written by Edward Stuart

(LONDON- 14 MAY 2019) - Speaker Aelita Venzalor (IND- Carlow-Kilkenny) has resigned from the Speaker’s Chair and her Irish seat, citing her acceptance of “the office of the Stewardship of the Manor of Northstead” and that she “no longer has the passion for the work that [she] did when [she] came in” to the region. The resignation was announced after a series of controversy between her and the Assembly Chairwoman and her allies in the House of Commons.
The conflict began after two separate proposals related to the Mock Parliament Act were drafted in the Commons and Assembly. The House shortly issued a summons to allow the Chairwoman to discuss the legislation with the rest of the MPs to build a proposal, but the summons was rejected. After the Crown Delegate and Assembly Chairwoman refused to comply with the summons issued by the Speaker on behalf of the Commons, believing the summons to be “unnecessary”. In response to the refusal, Venzalor and Deputy Speaker Arthur Grey (FEP-Grey) issued a joint statement expressing concern over the constitutionality of the Mock Parliament Act with the popular initiative clause of the Constitution, and stated that all proposals will be ignored. Venzalor was later overheard saying to a colleague that “the Chair refusing a summons of the Commons on matters related to the Assembly serious flouts our authority” and that she “will not present any governance law passed by the CA given the circumstances”.
During a press conference with Prime Minister Henry Norfolk, the BBC asked about his views on the joint statement:
”I was extremely disappointed in the statement released by the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House. There are various ways to handle disagreements and squabbles and that statement was in my view clearly not the proper one. As the regional Parliament, it is our duty to work with the Citizen’s Assembly on matters that affect it, after all, it is composed of our regional citizens, the people who we answer to and are held accountable to. In regards to the statement by the Father of the House, I believe he laid out the perfect way forward. Together as MPs we must listen to those who post comments in the Strangers Gallery and work together as one region to create the progress we wish to see.”
Frustrated with the conflict between the lower House of Commons and Citizens’ Assembly, a resolution of intent to block all legislation related to the CA from the two bodies was proposed by Lord Carlisle, who is Speaker Venzalor’s predecessor. The resolution expressed discouragement and concern over the impasse between the Speaker and Chairwoman and recognized that Parliament can make changes to the Mock Parliament Act “as it sees fit”, but emphasized that the propriety of making changes with the consultation of the Assembly must be regulated by “social convention”. The resolution would have forced the Commons and Chairwoman to work together by blocking legislation related to the assembly until a consensus proposal was made between the entities, and there was even consideration to block any legislation altogether until the issue of the CA was resolved. During the discussion, the Marquess of Westminster and Lord Advocate Juris Lancaster reviewed and corrected the constitutional concerns from the joint statement. The resolution would have likely passed, but Lord Carlisle withdrew the resolution for the time being.

After the release of the joint statement, Alistair Stuart (FEP-Paris), who is considered one of Chairwoman Norfolk’s allies in the Commons, released his own statement lamenting that the Commons “has been a state of rapid decline” since the rise of Venzalor after resignation of former Speaker Edward Stuart; and bemoaned the “lack of legal understanding” from the Speaker, and that the Lords had “lost faith” through its proposed resolution in the “laughing stock” Commons to perform well for its constituents.
“The MP for Paris seems to be trying to imply that we lost faith in the Commons solely because of the Speaker,” one anonymous Lord told the BBC, “The conflict is shared with the Chairwoman and other MPs including himself, so Alistair has no room to blame the Speaker. He doesn’t speak for us.”
The BBC was also able to reach out to the Speaker and her Deputy. Deputy Speaker Grey told the BBC that the entire situation has been “overblown and overstated from the beginning”. When the BBC reached out to the Speaker about the statement and its timing, she told us that her and the Deputy Speaker “took the best action we could with the information we had” and that the step was necessary after the Chairwoman “refused to come to the table”; the BBC has also verified that the statement was the Deputy Speaker’s idea.

Before Venzalor’s resignation, the Assembly passed a repeal and replace bill to the Speaker’s Office, in which the Chairwoman thanked the MPs of Paris and Grey for assisting in the discussions. With the Irish seat now filled by Reece Saint-Pierre and the Chairwoman now having an ally in Alistair Stuart as the new Speaker, the Citizens’ Assembly Act is seen as a consensus proposal between the Chair and the Commons and is set to pass the House. However, after the discussions of repealing the Citizens’ Mock Parliament Act altogether, some Lords are expected to amend the legislation to remove Governance Laws from the Assembly’s purview when it reaches the upper House.

The Royals’ Busy Easter Weekend
Written by Edward Stuart
https://www.bing.com/th?id=OIP.LaQg5y_VSjGvdCZiFG3RWAAAAA&pid=Api&rs=1&p=0

(EDINBURGH- 22 APRIL 2019) - This weekend was a busy one for the King and members of the Royal Family. The aging King Henry IX made a rare public appearance Saturday for a visit to the Ministry for Culture, Media, and Sport in London, where he was greeted by Culture Secretary Arthur Grey, MP for Grey. His Majesty did not make any remarks to the media waiting outside per royal protocol, but a spokesperson for the Culture Secretary told the BBC “His Majesty was very interested in the operations of the Regional Roleplay Committee and the Easter festival planning with the NS United Kingdom and congratulated the Secretary for his excellent work so far.”

On Sunday, His Majesty was joined by various members of the Royal Family for the Easter Service at St. Margaret’s Chapel in Edinburgh. The Prince of Wales, Prince Royal, Duke of Clarence and Aquitaine, Marquess of Westminster, and Earl of Carlisle were able to get away from the House of Lords business in London to join the King in listening to the Easter message of Archbishop of Canterbury Albert Stuart. The Royal Regiment of Scotland and a Celtic singer treated the royals and the waiting crowd to a rendition of Mo Ghile Mear and Auld Lang Syne outside of the chapel. Built under the reign of King David I of Scotland in the 12th century, the tiny chapel is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Edinburgh on the site of the Castle. The Royal Family recently committed £1.2 million to its renovation after it fell to disuse, and they intend to use the chapel during their visits to Scotland in recognition of the historic Scottish roots of the Royal House of Stuart.

The royals spent their Easter holiday in the historic Edinburgh Castle, some of which had to leave late Sunday evening after the family dinner in order to make it back to London for official business.

Mock Parliament News
Written by Madeline Norfolk

After the election of Madeline Norfolk as Assembly Chair, we experienced different energy coming from the Assembly. This energy resulted in 10 bills being discussed in the Assembly. Within those 10 bills, some received assent, others were denied assent, and others failed at the vote. We averaged between 5 and 10 people voting on the proposals, which is the highest average we have seen at least within the last year.
The Assembly, however, was not without controversy as disagreement regarding the Assembly ensued between the Chair and the then Speaker of the House of Commons.
In the end, Commons worked with the Assembly in pushing a governance bill to Commons, which has since been waiting for deliberation by the House of Lords.
The most anticipated assented bills include the bills on residencies and businesses. Another highly anticipated bill included a shoe-throwing budget for the Chair, which was denied assent due to the Crown Delegate not receiving funds in said bill.
With elections at a close and a new chair chosen, only time will tell if the Assembly will continue with activity and bills.

Less Aggressive Pacts
Written by Crushita Telcontar Stuart

On March 21st, 2019, King Henry signed into law the Pact of Non-Aggression between The Kingdom of Great Britain and United Kingdom, starting a new era for foreign relations in the KGB. This Pact, which is the first agreement to be signed between KoGB and another British region since over a year ago when a treaty with The Britannian Kingdom was signed into law. Further relations between the UK and KoGB are projected to occur within the next few months as both regions prepare for their respective new governments.

The Pact was quickly followed up an Easter Festival which brought much merriment and joy to both sides. With our outgoing PM, Henry Norfolk now serving as the PM of United Kingdom there is sure to be more cooperation in the future. A toast to our friends in UK!

House of Commons Election Results!

The hustings are over, the ballots are counted, and the results are in. The General Election of February 2020 has been decided, and the following are the winners making up our next House of Commons.

William Rhys Lancaster-Stuart- 23 votes.
Arthur Lancaster-Stuart- 23 votes.
Josephine Lancaster-Stuart- 22 votes.
Alec Norfolk-Stuart - 21 votes.
Zel Norfolk- 18 votes.
Chloe von Westfalen- 15 votes.
Alistair Lancaster-Stuart - 15 votes.

People who missed out were Albert Philip Lancaster-Stuart (BRP) 11 votes, Eli Hesial Rothschild (TPP) 13 votes, Edmund Arthur de Vitre (BRP) 13 votes, John Laurens-Wessex (IND) 11 votes, and John Donald (IND) 8 votes.
The British Royalist Party which faced some criticism during the campaign is vindicated at the ballot box trusted with the voters with six out of the seven seats taking the marginal seat of Scotland from the incumbent Sir Eli of TPP.
The PAX FRUIT Party lost its only seat and the SDLP did not put forth any candidates during the election leaving the Commons with no organised opposition.
William Rhys’ win sets him up for a strong shot at becoming Prime Minister this term, likely to be confirmed in the House of Commons with the BRP majority but the real test as always will be can he convince the House of Lords.
The Eternal Speaker Gets Dethroned!

The BRP-majority House of Commons has voted to elect BRP’s Josephine Lancaster-Stuart (MP of Wrexham) as the 42nd Session’s Speaker of the House of Commons, ousting the independent Alistair Lancaster-Stuart, who has served during four sessions of Parliament.

Speaker Alistair’s performance in the February 2020 General Election declined sharply from his popular support in the December General Election, in which he went from 20 votes to just 15 votes (7.77%) this time. By contrast, Josephine Lancaster-Stuart earned the highest support in the February Election under the incoming and former Prime Ministers, and is relatively new to the political scene after first being elected in December with 18 votes. It’s likely that she earned the support and trust of her colleagues after a stellar performance in churning out numerous bills and amendments during the 41st Session. After concerns of Speaker Alistair’s temperament last session from anonymous MPs and his poor election performance, the independent Speaker ended up losing the support of his colleagues this time.
We reached out to Speaker Alistair for a comment on his loss, to which he said, “Well, loss as a general concept is a frustrating thing so I guess I’m a bit frustrated over a loss. But I’m not even close to being as upset to this loss as my first one in Session 37. In retrospect I’m kinda happy that it was a loss to such a respectable candidate. As far as the now Rt. Hon. Member for Wrexham’s abilities I don’t have much doubt. My only advice is to listen to everyone’s thoughts and don’t rush. A good Speaker is not remembered for how many bills they passed during their tenure, ya know?”

However, there are concerns that the new Speaker will be unable to remain impartial and independent due to her membership in the British Royalist Party, which commands a majority. When asked about the concern by a citizen from the Strangers’ Gallery, Lady Josephine responded, “I often have independent and impartial views in concern to party politics. I vote in what I believe personally and I do not agree with a party line. Last term, every vote I cast was one of independence and I can answer why I voted the way I did on every single one. None of those answers include because I am involved in a party.”

Responding to the same question, Speaker Alistair stated that “a Speaker that belongs to a party will not have the same level of certainty and will not bring the same level of comfort as a Speaker who is politically independent”, and referred to past Sessions in which party-aligned Speakers made such Sessions “erratic”.

One anonymous former MP told the BBC that they were “disappointed” and explained what likely led to his ouster, “I think it’s part of two things. The first was Alistair probably wasn’t supposed to run for Commons this term, and the second is that the BRP is probably struggling organizationally. Despite Alistair being the more preferred option by the citizenry over the inexperienced and at times more combative alternative Josephine, at the end of the day, party lines probably played the biggest part. It is disappointing but could be seen from kilometers away. Alistair didn’t stand a chance simply because their minds were made up before the initial election even started.”

The former MP went on to say about the new Speaker, “I don’t think she can handle it. It was made pretty clear in the Speakership election that she wasn’t interested in being an independent Speaker. Had Edward not spoken up in the Stranger’s Gallery, we wouldn’t have seen any questions despite Alistair nearly begging the House to ask questions, sure Josephine complied to ask, but even her answers show she isn’t ready and won’t be able to be independent or impartial for that matter.”

Another anonymous citizen, on the other hand, praised Speaker Josephine, “I believe the new Speaker will be a breath of fresh air and more pleasant. She has a bright future ahead of her and if her record in the previous term is any indication, she will remain as an active and vital leader for the House and the region as a whole. She may not have intended to run as Speaker since that wasn’t made clear in her campaign, but I trust that she will know how to lead as Speaker while remaining fair between BRP and the independent minority in all rulings.”

With Alistair Lancaster-Stuart on his way out as Attorney General and now being ousted as Speaker by his colleagues, it’s not clear what is next for his future. As the only independent and non-BRP Member of Parliament, he will hopefully keep the British Royalist super-majority accountable.
The House of Commons Pick their Candidate

It was nighttime, a long day of deliberating over the Election of the Speaker of the House of Commons had worn the Members of Parliament thin. However, the government needed a new Prime Minister. The House took a short evening break, eating sandwiches provided by the Westminster Cafeteria. The Members gathered again, and at 11:47 p.m. GMT, the newly-elected Speaker, Rt Hon Josephine Lancaster-Stuart, the Member for Wrexham, opened the nominations for Prime Minister.

Quickly, the popularly-elected and former Prime Minister, Rt Hon Arthur Lancaster-Stuart, nominated former Deputy Prime Minister and former Culture Secretary, Hon William Rhys Lancaster-Stuart, the Member for Bath. The nominee accepted the nomination.

The Speaker started questions by asking about his qualifications to be Prime Minister. Former Speaker, Rt Hon Alistair Lancaster-Stuart, Member for Waterford, followed up by asking about departmental restructuring. Later on, the candidate clarified that Lady Artimedias, would serve both as Deputy Prime Minister and Roleplay Secretary. What followed was a repartee between the candidate and first-term parliamentarian, Hon Chloe von Westfalen, Member for Orkney and Shetland. The MP was concerned that the candidate was not clearly answering her questions. While, the candidate stipulated that he was answering to his ability.

At 6:30 p.m. GMT, Culture Secretary, Hon Member for Quebec, Alec Norfolk-Stuart, motioned to vote on the nominee. It was seconded by the Rt Hon Member for Waterford. The Speaker then opened the vote, and the MP’s voted as follows:

Hon Member for Bath: AYE.
Hon Member for Quebec: AYE.
Hon Member for Orkney and Shetland: AYE.
Hon Member for Paris: AYE.
Rt Hon Member for Waterford: AYE.
Rt Hon Member for Grey: AYE.
Rt Hon Member for Wrexham: AYE.
The nominee then moved to the House of Lords for confirmation.

The Lords Deliberate

His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, opened debate on 10 February 2020, at 10:07 p.m. GMT. Her Highness, Viscountess Flitwick, motioned to summon the candidate to the floor, and it was seconded by Her Lordship, the Lord Lomond. Subsequently, the Prince of Wales ordered the Hon Member for Bath to the floor.

Viscountess Flitwick started questions asking about non-cabinet ministers and foreign relations. Then, His Royal Highness, the Duke of Somerset, orated a number of questions, all of which originated from the Carlisle Test, of his own devising. What followed was a lengthy and thorough questioning led by the Duke of Somerset and Viscountess Flitwick. In the end, the Duke of Somerset motioned to vote, seconded by Viscountess Flitwick, and thirded by the Earl of Peel. The vote was opened by the Prince of Wales. The Lords voted as follows:

Viscountess Flitwick: CONTENT.
Viscount Charlemont: CONTENT.
Earl of Peel: CONTENT.
Lord Lomond: CONTENT.
Viscountess Adderley: CONTENT.
Duke of Somerset: CONTENT.
With his vote, the Duke wrote a speech about the candidate, praising him, “…the nominee that stands before us is a strong one whose party commands a super-majority of the lower House, and is one of the strongest nominees that stand before us to face the Carlisle Test.”

King’s Speech, What to Expect

The King’s Speech was delivered on an unusually sunny day, in between winter storms and apocalyptic rains. It doesn’t tell us much that hasn’t already been said during the campaign or the questioning in Parliament. For me, it simply reinforces the intention of the Prime Minister to do what he set out to do. The reforms to the legal and judicial systems supported by the PM and the BRP will also be a big part of what the government will do this term. I do think that these changes are mostly for the best. However, legalese reforms aren’t exactly all that interesting for a lot of people. What will really affect most citizens will be the other two main promises from the government. I expect that the focus on culture and external affairs will lead to renewed activity within the region. I am particularly looking forward to the development of the estates and businesses system as well as the new events in the RP. I believe that those will encourage more people to join the region and more importantly, stay active. All in all, this seems like a solid government agenda which has great potential for our region. It remains to be seen whether the government will live up to our expectations.

The Assembly saw itself with another low maintenance contest with Chloe von Westfalen going up against Edmund Arthur de Vitre. Both ran on similar platforms of continuing the work of the Assembly and encouraging more to become involved as the Assembly continues to evolve from the “Mock Parliament” of its past. At the end of the election, Edmund Arthur de Vitre rose to the top, beating Chloe von Westfalen 13 votes to 12 votes. Following this victory, Mr. de Vitre quickly started his confirmation of his deputy, Miss von Westfalen. Unfortunately, luck was on her side, and she lost the confirmation 5 in favor to 8 against. Mr. de Vitre quickly put forth Arthur Lancaster-Stuart for confirmation, who received 10 in favor and 6 against. Chairman de Vitre is currently on a leave of absence until the 28th.

First Week(s) of Government!

It was the first real week of the William Rhys premiership, and so far things look ok, with William Rhys taking many actions in his first week.

It started with a opening address outside Downing Street, doing the rounds of thank you’s and his first week plans.

The Prime Minister’s PMQs went from easy to straight into pressing questions. In his first round, it was easy which makes sense because it was his first, and not much can really be asked. Lord Arthur asking him about his plans which he detailed, and how his day was which was rather standard, Lady Sarah asking about the economy which he said he was paying close attention to, and Rt. Hon. Josephine asking him on his opinion regarding the proposal by one MP to repeal the PMQ’s Act which he didn’t unless a credible alternative was proposed. His second week was slightly more difficult with specified questions on Government activity. Giggles could be heard from the Stranger’s Gallery as the Prime Minister reminded Parliament that the Government is in fact not in charge of the University and questions regarding if his government is going to be more active on the forum is unnecessary, especially when the thread that won’t go away, the constituency battle sign ups, makes it clear the Government’s initiatives to push for more forum activity.

The Prime Minister has issued 3 different persona non grata announcements regarding individuals proven to be dangerous or harmful to the community at large.

Deputy positions, as well as undersecretaries were filled, and opening announcements by departments made. The Foreign Office announced the most changes with the single department splitting into three sub departments under the Foreign Office, each with their own focus to improve the ambassador system, interregional activities, and general upkeep of the Office as a whole.

Home continues to tick along, and the Culture Department has closed sign ups for constituency battles, with an announcement on who is where to be announced by the end of the week.

What’s New For Updates?
https://www.ltwebdesigns.com/uploads/1/8/8/7/18875160/published/whats-new-nav-2017_1.png?1560776325

This term we are trying a few new things!
First, we are going to do our best to distribute updates every two weeks! Why? Because we want our allies and friends to know what we’re up to! The government this term has a huge emphasis on cultural events, and we want to do our best to encourage our friends in other regions to join us in the fun!
Second, we’ve tried to increase our dedication to consistency across platforms! Be it a google doc, a dispatch, a pdf, or even a forum post, we do our best to ensure what you get is consistent across everything!

That does it for this update! For any questions, please reach out to Madeline Norfolk or Reece Lancaster-Stuart for more information!

A Brief Recap of the House of Commons

At the end of the election, we had the following folks elected:
Arthur E. Somerset (BRP) MP for Grey (Australia)
Crushita Telcontar (LIB) MP for Sault Ste. Marie (Canada)
William Rhys Lancaster-Stuart (BRP) MP for Bath (England)
Peter John de Vitre (BRP) MP for Alpes-de-Haute-Provence (France)
Bailian Lucullus Somerset (BRP) MP for Lagan Valley (Ireland)
Theodore Bedford (BRP) MP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar (Scotland)
Josephine Telcontar (LIB) MP for Wrexham (Wales)
.
Arthur is arguably the longest serving Member of Parliament. He started back when he won his first election in January of 2019 and since then has made a name for himself in the House as the father of the House, taking over that position shortly after Alistair Brandon took a holiday in the House of Lords before returning to Commons once again. Arthur has written many proposals and has also served as Deputy Speaker a few times before finally taking the mantle this term as Speaker of the House of Commons. He has become a model for the House on how to act and how not to act, avoiding some controversies that have plagued the House of Commons over the last year.

Crushita is one of the oldest members of the Kingdom of Great Britain and with that, can be trusted to know what he is talking about. Crushita has also become the region’s resident grammar fixer because grammatically correct legislation is better legislation! Known by many for the reason why Larry is enshrined by Executive Order and threatening to marry a barrel of cream cheese, Crushita is a breath of fresh and new air for the House of Commons and is projected to do quite well this term as the unofficial leader of the Opposition.

William Rhys or Reece is our current Prime Minister, securing his ballot for a second term, many know Reece as a people person and a people’s compromiser. If you ever wanted to know what people think about you, you can ask Reece and he will tell you, within reason. This skill of his has transferred well into his Premiership but not without some hiccups. Balancing the job as the people’s compromise and Prime Minister has put a toll on his delivering of legislation. In his interview with the BBC, Reece indicated that he didn’t really have any plans for legislation, and preferred working with others to make their legislative ideas a reality. Reece’s hopeful big legislation accomplishment will be the implementation of the Economy, if the Lords ever get around to passing that item, but more on that later.

Peter has been our on again off again Member of Parliament that for a long time we would only see often for a month and then not see him again until six months later. This unfortunate circumstance is attributed mostly to IRL coming to him like a sack of PAX FRUITS and knocking him out, but happily returning to welcoming and open arms every time. Since his most recent term, Peter has been an active contributor to the region through many of his comments and ideas made known within the Citizens’ Assembly. With Parliament beginning to dabble in an area that was originally seen as just an Assembly thing, Peter will be able to provide much insight and improvements to whatever proposals come through the House of Commons!

Bailian or Bailey is a returned Member of Parliament and another long time citizen of the region like the previously mentioned Members of Parliament. Known for being Deputy Prime Minister under his father, Edward Somerset, and Home Secretary under his mother, Madeline Norfolk, Bailey provides important insight into the best ways to protect our citizens as well as support the government without agreeing with everything that is done having already shown he will put his ideals first before falling into line with the party.

Theodore is also a returned Member of Parliament, having taken a break from all things politics after failing to be reelected for the 38th term of Parliament. Theodore then took an interest in the church and assisted in setting up the internal legislature within there. With his return, there is excitement as to what he shall be bringing to the table. Theodore will be able to provide perhaps a more moral point of view as well as another new perspective to break up the current mindset in the House of Commons.

Josephine is the last Member of Parliament to be mentioned here and is also a returned Member of Parliament. Josephine has been serving in the House of Commons for a while now as well as in the government until the decision was made to allow for her to focus on Parliament as well as Deputy Chairperson of the Assembly. Josephine has also seemingly switched political parties, which should provide an interesting perspective in the mix of the House of Commons.

Plans for the House of Commons this term includes more laws about Criminal and Civil Offenses, Committees, Constitutional Reform, and much more!

Overall, the House of Commons has been a spitfire of interest and with MidTerm Polls fastly approaching, we at the BBC are excited to see what the citizens have to say about their elected officials.

Government in a Snapshot

The Government so far has been one of the most successful governments this region has seen in a long time.

Between the State Opening of Parliament and the Prime Minister’s first address, a dilemma was hit within cabinet when it was discovered the planned Culture Secretary would be unable to fulfil their duties in the upcoming term. This led Prime Minister Reece to call a cabinet meeting to discuss the options and potential replacements. The idea was then brought forth to combine the two offices into the Office of Internal Affairs which, while not very British in name, has stood out within the region through creating Minister positions below the Secretary and bringing some life back into the Home and Culture Office as a whole. Meanwhile in the Foreign Affairs Office, there is a revitalization in the usage of the World Assembly and further changes to the diplomatic corps to make it more than simply citizens who post updates for the government.

The Attorney General has been hard at work with his Constitutional Committee in revitalizing the Constitution to bring more clarity as well as cut out some of the fat that simply doesn’t need to be Constitutionally enshrined.

A few weeks into the term, it was announced that the Roleplay Secretary would be stepping down to learn more about the office, and the Prime Minister then took over the office. For the first time since the inception we have seen another roleplay be created under this department, and a forum roleplay at that! The theme around this surrounds the events starting in 1947.

The Internal Affairs Office also recently announced the Residency Program, aimed to entice new and returning arrivals of KoGB to get involved in the non political side of the region before committing to citizenship, while also ensuring that citizens who prefer roleplaying can maintain citizenship without necessarily meeting the forum requirement that has led to some citizens losing their spots on the roleplay in the main discord server.
The Residency Program allows for members of the region to participate in Societies, the University, Constituency Battles and soon the roleplays offered by the Government. Over the next week and into MidTerms, we should see more progress made and more integration methods implemented to get citizens and residents in all the knowledge needed for being the best they can be!

Cabinet is Currently:

Crushita Telcontar as Deputy Prime Minister;
Madeline Norfolk as Internal Affairs Secretary ;
John Laurens-Wessex as Foreign Secretary;
William Rhys Lancaster as Roleplay Secretary;
Alistair Brandon as Attorney General;

Another Round of Name Changing, Let’s Hope It Sticks?

A Royal Decree was passed by the King to hopefully better clarify who is where in the ever growing House of Stuart as well as add some needed class and stature to the name. The Royal Family was split up into five sub groups, which are NOT to be confused as branch houses. Each group is still required to follow the rules of the family and receive permission from the Patriarch for any and all marriages and adoptions.

Edward, and his spawns are known from here forward as the Somersets. With Edward taking a leave from the region, his son, Alec Norfolk-Stuart, assumed the position as first heir, with his brothers Bailey Somerset and Albert Philip Somerset as well as his nephew Arthur Somerset following suit. William Rhys or Reece, and his spawns are known from here forward as the Lancasters, with his only child and beloved son Elisha Lancaster following suit. Crushita and his spawns are known from here forward as the Telcontars, with his eldest son Gatto Telcontar and his daughter Josephine Telcontar following suit. Alistair and his spawns are known from here forward as the Brandons, with his son Philip Brandon following suit. Finally, Juris and his spawns are known from here forward as the Bedfords with his son Theodore Bedford following suit. In addition, Juris’ wife and daughter of Edward Somerset is known as Sarah Bedford. The Prince of Wales and nephew to the King remains known as Charles Lancaster-Stuart, and the other members of the family who hold an HRH or higher are given the allowance to use the name of Lancaster-Stuart at the discretion of the Crown.

If you are still with us, let’s do a quick explanation for why this happened.
It is no secret that NS families tend to grow like weeds in regions, especially when families make friends with other people and like the idea of everyone sharing names. The unfortunate consequence of this is that the House of Lancaster-Stuart also holds some of the most active citizens in the region, with the recent adoption of Theodore Bedford being no exception to this. As a result the header on the forum was plastered with over 20 entries of “Lancaster-Stuart”, this forms a perspective as a citizen can be off putting and make one believe that to be relevant, they must be a part of the family, which is simply not true. The other issue that arises from this is the idea that the Crown is ultimately not as impartial as they may appear to be, which can lead to further issues within the community and in politics in general. As a result of this name changing Decree, the header itself has become one that is more inclusive and hopes to allow for citizens as well as members of the Royal Family to feel more free to be involved without whatever implications one acting under the name “Lancaster-Stuart” can indicate.

We look forward to what the future will bring, and pray to the great PAX FRUIT that we see no more name changes! We’re still recovering from the Arche to Roth to Kensington move.

MidTerms is approaching next week, which means post MidTerms the government should have a more clear path for the remainder of the term, we ever so look forward to showing you more that we have to offer!

Question for our Friends Abroad

If you could eat a PAX FRUIT product of your choice (PAX FRUIT bread, baked PAX FRUIT, mashed, fries, etc etc) to eat for the rest of Quarantine, what would it be and why? Bonus if you provide a picture! The citizen tasked to provide this update should have provided their answer below this post!

Clearly, the answer is mashed Pax Fruit. … I rarely have it in fry form.

Fries, ofc.

I love fries!

And very cool update!

The Abdication of HRBM King Henry IX

On August 4th 2020, His Royal Britannic Majesty the King, in a shocking letter, announced that he would be stepping down from duties as Sovereign of the Kingdom of Great Britain. Henry IX ascended the Throne during a time of great strife and uproar, and through it all he stood strong through it all. Much like the in-real-life King George VI, His Majesty never intended to have served as monarch. Yet, he took upon the burden and has served this great region with wisdom, care, and most of all trust. The same day, His Majesty’s Abdication Act (2020) was proposed in the House of Lords. Therein, passionate and grateful speeches echoed in hall of red seats. When it was passed, and sent to the House of Commons, there grew a hush in the normal loud and rowdy chamber of green. And, then, with great somberness, the Members of Parliament followed suit of their counterparts, and gave long speeches thanking the King for his service and dedication.

Originally, His Majesty was to officially abdicate on September 4th; however, due to Hurricane Laura that was extended to the 15th of September, in an emergency amendment in Parliament. The King wrote a letter of thanks in the Joint Session for everyone’s kind words and sentiments. His Royal Highness, Prince Charles Lancaster-Stuart, the Prince of Wales and the King’s nephew, will succeed the Throne. Please, stay posted for Succession and Coronation Announcements, including what the future King will use for his regnal name.

In honor of His Royal Britannic Majesty, here is one of his favorite poems by Dylan Thomas:

“Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”

The Previous Parliament - 44th Session

So, what happened last session? Who was involved and what did they do? The Staff Writers of the Foreign Office fill you in now.

The 44th Session brought to us a new Prime Minister but with a familiar face, or is it spud? Crushita Telcontar, the Marquess of Montreal, was the first Prime Minister to be a PAX FRUIT. He ran a diligent campaign that was considered to be rather moderate which comprised on most, if not all, the big issues of the day. The 41st Prime Minister’s tenure began with a bang, having several citizens complaining about his new roleplay policy which was supposed to bring it autonomy from the government. Like his predecessor, he assumed the responsibilities of the Roleplay Secretary. As of yet, the Regional Roleplay remains in flux and citizens still debate on the best approach to its governance. Telcontar’s Government lasted 60 days and was ended under an early dissolution of Parliament. His government strived to keep the peace and made headway on furthering relations with the United Kingdom (NSUK).

The Kingdom of Great Britain’s 44th Parliament, specifically its House of Commons, can be said to have started off with a bang but over time has just seared down to embers. Many bills were proposed at the start of term at a breakneck pace, but now the proposals have somewhat stagnated. At one point, seven bills were open for discussion, but eventually, they were either passed on to the House of Lords or tabled.

As a result of the impending introduction of the economy, several MPs have taken to proposing certain economic legislation before the House. One bill, the Labour and Employment Code was passed to the House of Lords where its confirmation vote failed to pass. Now, however, the Commons debates a bill that will amend the Bank of England Omnibus Acts, the collection of acts which establish the ground rules for the region’s economy, in order to ensure that the Bank of England has the sufficient amount of flexibility to actually establish the economy. The bill, entitled the Economic Reform Amendment Act, was spurred by the publishing of a letter from the Director of the Bank of England which outlined the amendments they wished to see.

The House of Lords has also been quite busy this term. Their first priorities were to deal with legislation passed to them last term without having a final action on them. These included the Commonwealth Regulation Act which was a bill that would have outlined the process for the Kingdom of Great Britain to integrate willing regions or to create regions to become part of their Commonwealth. It was rejected however with the Marquess of Sligo arguing that the treaty making power granted to the executive by the Constitution already provided for the ability for regions to be integrated into a Commonwealth if they were indeed willing to be. There was also an amendment to the Statutory Interpretations and Procedures Act, the act which governs universal language and interpretation of laws within the region, to simplify the definitions in the act. It was amended and returned to the House of Commons where it passed handily.

More recently, the House of Lords passed an act which outlines the powers of the Prime Minister after a new constitution was passed last term of Parliament. Now it’s being hotly debated by the House of Commons along with the Economic Reform Act. One Act, however, has managed to pass both Houses thus far this term: the Amendment to the Popular Parliamentary Proposals Organic Act which, now that it has been passed, has enacted necessary updates to the rather old PPPOA, most importantly bringing it more in line with the new constitution of the region. The Act, which governs procedure and definitions for petitions to members of parliament as well as popular initiatives which require citizen signatures, used to include several provisions related to outdated enactments in the region’s legal codex, but also utilized constitutional citations that no longer exist. With its passage, the Act is now greatly improved and brought into the modern day with its amendment.

The Current Session - 45th

The most recent parliament, the 45th Parliament, was elected on August 14.

Peter John de Vitre was selected as Speaker of the House of Commons, and Theodore Bedford was confirmed as Prime Minister. Sinn Fein has become the opposition party, but not taken steps to formalize this position under the Commons Standing Orders for the Opposition.

The 45th Parliament has already gotten off to a quick start, with many amendments and bills being passed, such as the Civil Code Act, which sets out procedures for Civil Trials within the Kingdom. It has passed out of the Commons and made it to the Lords. An amendment to the Constitution which would further define statutory law vs. Ordinary Law was introduced and is soon to be voted on in the Commons; and the Prime Minister’s Powers Organic Act, which better defines the powers of the Prime Minister passed out of the Commons amended and was sent to the Lords who look poised to amend it further. Other bills which have been introduced included one that would have limited military activity, but this failed in the Commons, and a Joint Resolution that would create a Joint Standing committee on Finance for the purpose of oversight and cross chamber dialog.
The people of the region are now waiting to see what comes next from this Parliament as the term continues on.

Treaty of Britons

A monumental step in Foreign Affairs, the Treaty of Britons formalizes the relationship between The Kingdom of Great Britain and United Kingdom by instating a full treaty between the two regions. In the works for some months it was written by Madeline Norfolk, Crushita Lancaster-Stuart, Lucas Stewart, Theodore Bedford, and Zel Norfolk; the treaty has passed the House of Commons and proceeded to Lords in the Kingdom of Great Britain, and has been introduced to the House of Commons in United Kingdom.

In bringing it to the floor, the Prime Minister, Theodore Bedford, thanked the previous government for their work in crafting the treaty, and thanked the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of United Kingdom for their hard work. Lucas Stewart, Prime Minister of United Kingdom, expressed the importance of the culture and tradition that the two regions share. We fully expect the treaty to pass with due haste and formalize the great friendship and alliance between these two regions.

An Insight Into Peerages
An Interview with HM the King about Peerages and the expectations that come with them.
As many have taken notice to, our region has quite a few peers! But what is a peer? What expectations come with it? How does one become a Peer? We have those answers for you with an exclusive interview with HM the King on it! Without further ado, let’s get started.

Greetings Your Majesty and thank you for joining us this evening. The first thing the people want to know is the following: we’ve noticed that sometimes people will jump from Baron to Earl or receive a Viscount right out the bat, what kind of process do you go through in elevating someone either for the first time or upgrading them to a higher tier?

So, for a first time elevation to the Peerage I don’t like giving anybody anything much higher than Earl. There are some special circumstances. But those are special circumstances for a reason. I mean, look at Crush, Edward, and Alistair. All are my sons, but none of them started out with great fancy titles. They earned them over time for hard work.

So, for the regular person, it’s usually a choice between Baron and Viscount. I take a long hard look at that person’s merits, their actions, how hard they work, this sort of thing. Eventually I seek out Charles’ opinion, and other peoples, and after considering it a while more, I select. For an upgrade, that depends. If someone has been doing a kick ass job at being a baron and has gone really well and above the call of duty rather than begging me for a job every two months, I don’t mind giving the bump to earl. If not, usually I’ll upgrade them to just one tier, because they still do good work, you know? It’s all about what you put in.

Love it! Next round is going to be about expectations. Do you hold any expectations for those who are given peerages? And are expectations higher when the peerage is higher?

Yes to both. Service, honor, and loyalty. They’ve got to serve the region, they’ve got to be honorable, and they have to be loyal to the crown and to the people. This is especially for the family. Family members with peerages have to pull their own weight. I expect service, I expect time in government, assisting the government, time in parliament, passing and writing good bills, I expect military service where possible, and I expect them to conduct themselves in a manner befitting their station.

Has there ever been a time where a peer has let you down or you have had to go so far as to rescind their titles as a consequence?

There have been times where a peer has let me down, but it is not appropriate to discuss that here. As for rescinding titles, there was a time, which you were privy to, where the situation did get far enough that it was necessary and it was done then and there. In difficult times, I think it is okay to push harder than I originally intend to do.

King giveth, so King can taketh away!

For Peers who skip a level in elevations, would there ever be times where you would bestow a lower peerage to them? For example Bailey was elevated from Baron to Earl, would he ever get a Viscounty?

Probably not. Another thing that goes into me picking peerages, especially if they are extant peerages(ones that actually exist, not ones that I make up as I so often do), I look at a person’s family. Do they have heirs? KoGB is rather unique in that our titles are, in large part, inheritable by the legal heirs under KoGB law of their recipients. So, I consider subsidiary titles.

Bailey, for instance. He’s Earl of Dunedin, but he also holds the style “Baron Dunedin” and in IRL rules it’s not done, and I would give him a viscountcy if this was a real monarchy. But I don’t think people will be confused that there is a Baron Dunedin and an Earl. We’re pretty clever folks I think. Though, that brings up something even more interesting. I have a habit of also enobling people who marry into the royal family. The Royal Family has a habit of marrying the younger children of peers, the most recent of course being Richard de Vitre and his marriage to Josephine when she was a Lancaster-Stuart.

Well, to give him an even footing, I made him a baronet upon his marriage. But then he left, and that baronetcy reverted to his younger brother Peter John, who he declared to me privately was his legal heir before he departed. Which is another difference, our peers keep their lesser titles, even if it’s the same territorial designation, as courtesy titles. Just something I prefer. Charles may not continue it of course, but that’s up to him and his heirs and successors.

Last question, and a fan favorite! How do you decide the names?

So, for the lesser titles, barons, viscounts and such I typically find a small village somewhere relatively rural. I will usually speak to the recipient beforehand and get an idea of where they would like the title to be, where their estate is, things like that. Once I’ve got it, I say different combinations over and over again until I find one I think works out. So, for instance, Madeline, you’re the Duchess of York, and I had plans for a Marquessate for you. That was hard, and I hadn’t decided by the time you inherited the duchy from Old Henry. But when I made you a countess, that was very fun. You were the Welsh MP for forever, I myself was Welsh MP in British Isles for six consecutive terms. I have a fondness for that country. So, I thought of where your parliamentary constituency was, and then I looked into old governmental subdivisions, the ceremonial counties. And happened upon Denbighshire. The pronunciation was nice. Countess of Denbighshire, Lady Denbighshire, Lady Denbigh for short.

Now, for Earls, I look for large regional cities, for instance, Bath in Somerset for Prince Reece. Or, in Asce’s case, the Isle of Mann, with which he has some sort of odd affection that I don’t really get. But, whatever floats his boats, right, so long as he sells them to the navy.

For Marquesses, which are a fair bit more exotic sounding, I look for place-names that don’t sound particularly English. Marquess of Ellesmere, for instance. Ellesmere is a really small village in Shropshire on the Welsh borders. I have a friend who lived there for a time, and I love the way it sounded. And for Prince Alistair, the Marquess of Sligo.

Now, with Duchies it’s a bit different. When I think of making someone a duke, which you’ll note I haven’t actually done for someone who is here since Edward was made Duke of Somerset, I have to be careful. I try to limit duchies to the Royal Family. It isn’t always possible, but that’s how I prefer it done, and so when I create a duke I have to think of someplace with Royal interest. For instance, the Duchy of Norfolk. It’s my retirement plan with Charles, you see, and the first title I ever held in a British region was Duke of Norfolk. I like the way it sounds, I like the sort of East Anglian quaintness about the place names there. However, the next dukes I will create(and there will be three more in particular) have to be chosen not just because I like the names or whatever, but because they are sufficiently unique to the individual, they have gravitas, ambiance.

That does it for the interview! What are your thoughts on this spotlight? What should we interview the King on next?

Mental Health Is Important, Check Up

With Corona still wrecking havoc upon the world, many of our citizens have been negatively either directly or indirectly affected because of it. Outside of Corona, many of our citizens have been facing hardships with family members. We at the BBC encourage everyone to take a look at what’s going on and decide if this is the right time for you to be as invested, or uninvested, in the region as you are right now.

NationStates will always be here, we promise the region isn’t going anywhere. We want you to be okay, to be safe, and most of all, to be in a good physical and mental headspace. We don’t all have the luxury to have these things, and many of us are having it a lot harsher than we let on in the game, because many of us do not want to intertwine our IRL with NS (and those that succeed are honestly some of the best people I’ve ever met).

Please remember to be more patient with your fellow citizen or friend on the internet during this time. Summer slump aside, we don’t know what situation people are in, and all we can and really should do is our best not to add anymore burdens than what someone is already carrying. If someone hasn’t been online in awhile, aren’t doing their usual thing on the forum, discord, or onsite, try to reach out to them and make sure they’re okay.

Offer help, offer advice. Please do not feel that you need to be in whatever position you have or hold in this region, or any region for that matter, for people to care about you. NationStates should be fun. NationStates should not stress you out.

If NationStates for you has not been fun or has been stressing you out, it might be time to review why you are still in NationStates, and what steps you want to take to prevent further stress or further feelings of unfun. The internet is a magical place, let’s make sure that this community and any community we are in on the internet stays that way.

Check on your people, Check on your not people, Reach out to your people, Reach out to someone you trust. Whatever you decide, remember that this community will always be here, if you need a break, take it. If you need more distractions, ask for it. We are here for you, and that’s a guarantee.

Message from the Prime Minister

“I am deeply humbled to have been appointed as Prime Minister of KoGB, and I look forward to serving in that capacity to the best of my ability. I intend to make sure that Foreign Affairs is not neglected during my time in office. Further if you need any assistance, comments, questions, concerns then please feel free to reach out to your ambassador or ours and we will do the best that we can. I look forward to working with you all in the future. Thank you.”

 • Theodore Bedford, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Britons Head to the Polls

Great Britain had a tough General Election to ring in the month of October. The following candidates were elected to the House of Commons:

Frederick Aster (BRP): 21 votes (12.88%)
JayDee Bonaparte (IND): 21 votes (12.88%)
John Laurens-Wessex (IND): 22 votes (13.5%)
Madeline Norfolk (SF): 20 votes (12.27%)
Meritorious J. Tudor (IND): 22 votes (13.5%)
Peter Grey (SF): 23 votes (14.11%)
Theodore Bedford (BRP): 17 votes (10.43%)

Madeline Norfolk of Sinn Fein and JayDee Bonaparte (Independent) joined forces to form the Jaylicious Coalition as the Governing Majority.

A promising newcomer, Frederick Aster won in his first election, and ran on forming a Joint Committee for constitutional revisions, a committee to reform the economy and for parliamentary reforms to require the Speaker of the Commons to be nonpartisan.
JayDee Bonaparte was a Supreme Court Justice at the time of his election, and has previously served as a Prime Minister, Member of Parliament, Lord of Parliament, and Foreign Secretary. He ran on a campaign to protect the “independence of the Prime Minister from the sticky fingers of Parliament”, to take part in the newly formed Joint Law Lords Committee, and to work against the HM Loyal Opposition Act. Bonaparte resigned from the Court on the 29th as per his campaign promise to step down at the two year anniversary of his confirmation as Justice.
John Laurens-Wessex has previously served as Foreign Secretary last term and has been Speaker of the Commons before. He campaigned this term to enact the Incorporated Municipalities Act to further develop the region’s roleplay government with the Citizens’ Assembly, and once again successfully ran for Speaker of the Commons.
Madeline Norfolk needs no introduction, as she has previously served as a Supreme Court Justice, Member of Parliament, Lord of Parliament, and the region’s longest serving Prime Minister over the disgraced former Prime Minister Vac Mercer. She formed a new party called Sinn Fein and decided to once again run for Prime Minister this term. She developed her campaign by describing how she would structure her Cabinet and how her leadership style (which has come under fire in the past) might differ this term, and what would remain the same. Legislatively, she pushed for a newly reformed Criminal and Civil Code, a Naturalization and Visa Act to codify citizenship applications and visas, a new Prime Ministers’ Questions Act, and development of Freedom of Information procedures for declassification of classified information.
Meritorious Tudor served as a Member of Parliament last term, but focused his campaign heavily on economic legislation to supplement the regional economy. He pushed ideas such as an Inheritance and Value Added Tax (VAT), enacting government intervention policy, and a new law to “kickstart” the economy.
Peter Grey is also a promising newcomer who has won his first election this term. He ran in opposition to the HM Loyal Opposition Act’s necessity and for amendments to the British Nationality Act to “enable more freedom for the government to create, control and improve the ability to moderate citizenship and forum access”.
Last but not least, Theodore Bedford, who served as Prime Minister last term, stood for re-election and ran to continue the progress his Government had made with developing ties with the Consortium and United Kingdom, further development of the regional roleplay, and boasted the 131 questions he had answered at Prime Ministers’ Questions, the most in the region’s history. Mr. Bedford suffered a humiliating setback in the General Election with the lowest share of the vote tied with former Speaker Peter John de Vitre. This tie would have triggered a runoff but de Vitre notified the Royal Electoral Commission of his intention to withdraw from the race, ensuring that Bedford would remain in Parliament for the next term.

Following the Election of Commons, the Election of the Prime Minister ensued with Madeline Norfolk and Theodore Bedford going head to head. Questions were asked and answered. Conflict arose as candidate Madeline Norfolk refused to reveal her cabinet picks to Commons, claiming that she wanted to be elected because of her abilities and the Commons trust in her, rather than judging her already known to be less than popular cabinet. Following further debate, the House of Commons elected Madeline Norfolk as their candidate. She then moved to face the House of Lords. The House of Lords brought forth questions regarding the candidate’s ability to unify as well as minimize conflict within the region. Having been known in the region for causing conflict, Madeline issued a plea and promise to the House and Parliament as a whole that her intentions are to ensure the future of the region is bright with a fresh cabinet of citizens with potential and the support of the Jaylicious Coalition. She then relayed her cabinet and after further statements made, the Duke of Norfolk, John Lancaster-Stuart, indicated his support for the candidate and the vote then followed. Madeline Norfolk received the approval from the House of Lords and became the Prime Minister. Madeline’s opening speech revolved around retention, while her Deputy Prime Minister, JayDee Bonaparte, issued his opening speech revolving around trust.

King Charles III Coronated

On the fourth of October, His Majesty King Charles III was officially coronated at Westminster Abbey by the Archbishop of Canterbury Peter John de Vitre.

The procession of the King and members of the Royal Family departed from Clarence House down The Mall, proceeded through the Household Cavalry Museum and by the Houses of Parliament, and arrived at the Abbey at 7:00am. The ceremonies began at 7:12 as the King entered through the West Door as the choir sang the hymn “I Was Glad” by Francis Pigott and Hubert Parry. After His Majesty took his oath and was enthroned, the church and nobles of the realm paid homage. Leading them, the Archbishop, Duke of Norfolk, Duke of Westmorland, Duke of Somerset, Duchess of York, Marquess of Sligo, Earl of Wellington, Viscountess Eythorne, Baron Vaudemont, and Baronet of Bevis Marks knelt and pronounced their words of Homage. Donning the Imperial Crown and robes, and bearing the Sceptre and Orb, His Majesty made his way to the West Door of the Abbey as the choir and socially distanced audience within the church sang “God Save the King”.

The Royal Procession made its way through the packed streets of London and its cheering crowds to the Palace, where the King and members of the Royal Family appeared on the Balcony to wave to the jovial crowds outside of the gates.

The Legislative Term So Far

The 46th Parliament started off quickly, as proposals from the previous term were sorted, mainly the Gender Protection Amendment, which would have changed the location of a clause prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity, and His Majesty’s Most Loyal Opposition Act, which would have formalized the status of an Opposition to the government within Commons. Both items were tabled at the start of the term. The first new proposal of the term was the Speaker Political Neutrality Act, proposed by Frederick Acker, the Member of Parliament for Paris and the Deputy Speaker, which would ban the Speaker from being a member of a party or participating in the events of a Party. The vote failed with 5 nays, 1 aye, and the Speaker abstaining from the vote.

The next bill introduced was the Opposition Standing Orders Repeal Act, which repealed the Standing Orders for His Majesty’s Opposition after it was found to be unconstitutional in the court case Leader of the Opposition v. The House of Commons. The repeal passed without much hassle. At the current debate, the Deputy Prime Minister, Jay Dee Bonaparte proposed an amendment to the standing orders which formalized procedures for referencing members on the House Floor. The Speaker, John Laurens-Wessex, proposed a resolution to create a Joint Ways and Means Committee with the House of Lords to make reforms to the Bank of England Omnibus Act. The Speaker also proposed an amendment to formalize the Opposition within the standing orders. Meritorious Tudor proposed an Income Tax Act which would generate revenue for the Bank of England, and last but not least, a resolution to create a committee to reform the constitution is still being debated. Other items have been proposed since, and with MidTerm Polls rearing its exciting head, it will be exciting to see what comes next!

Cultural Endeavors

Starting on the All Hallows Eve, Culture Secretary Richard de Vitre and the Culture Team organized Great Britain’s annual Halloween Festival for the British people! Citizens took part in an avatar contest, party games such as Scribbl.io and Among Us, Spooky Story time, and an estate Halloween Party!
A special congratulations to His Majesty the King and Mr. Theodore Bedford for winning the avatar contest!

Remembrance Day was quietly celebrated throughout the region with members of Government announcing the recognition of the day, the Church holding a special service, and the Gibraltar Assembly passing a resolution Honouring those who had fallen.

The Kingdom of Great Britain this past week celebrated being the Region of the Week over in Europeia! The week was spent by avoiding international incidents, assassinating the KoGB Prime Minister in Among Us, British Trivia, and Scribbl! Further, a fun radio show was held where Prime Minister Madeline Norfolk and Deputy Prime Minister JayDee Bonaparte met with Pichto and talked about KoGB and Euro. This was an exciting time, especially for KoGB and with that coming to an end, we hope to do more fun things with Euro as well as our other friends abroad!

The Kingdom of Great Britain is also taking part in the UCR Con this year. So far it has been an absolute blast and we look forward to meeting new people, new regions, and making all sorts of new connections!

Prince of Wales Engaged

Clarence House announced that His Royal Highness, Prince William Rhys of Wales is engaged to Ms. Rhea Amburg. Prince William introduced his Ms. Amburg to His Majesty the King before King Henry IX stepped down. Charles, the Prince of Wales at the time, was said to be enchanted by Ms. Amburg and granted the couple his blessing to wed.

The Prince of Wales and Ms. Amburg will be wed at the Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris on Christmas Day.

For the speakership, John Laurens-Wessex, the incumbent Speaker, stood, along with former Prime Minister Theodore Bedford and former Speaker Alistair Brandon, the longest serving Speaker in regional history. Laurens-Wessex dropped out early, to ensure that the Speaker election would not be deadlocked. Nevertheless, the Speakership election’s first ballot was rendered deadlocked due to an abstention, making the vote 3-3-1. On the second ballot, Theodore Bedford was elected speaker. The subsequent Prime Minister selection was much, much more calm as only one candidate, Former Prime Minister Arthur Somerset was the only candidate to stand, and was swiftly confirmed by both Houses of Parliament. He appointed the following cabinet upon taking office.

Foreign Secretary: Edward Somerset
