I'm Delegate: Not Quite Dead Yet

Hello everyone! Many of you may know me as I’m Dead, or many may not know me at all. I have not been very active in the TEP-sphere for a long while. During this time I learned a lot about myself and I think I’m ready to give this another shot. A little background on me: I was the Minister of Culture for 4-5 terms, and currently am a moderator, a magister, and an Urth cartographer. I’ve run for delegate two to three times before, but I never felt like I was ready to take on a role of this caliber, I finally feel as if I am prepared for this position. Let me give you all a little rundown of what I intend to do.

Cabinet/Executive

Before I get started with specifics, I would like to talk about all of the cabinet members who have overseen Merlo throughout his terms. I respect everyone there and feel as if they have all done a great job, but I do feel as if it’s time for some new talent as well. This came as a little bit of a predicament to me, as I did not want to harm the people who are currently a part of Merlo’s cabinet, nor did I want to ruin the chances of people who want to become a part of my cabinet.

Eventually, I came up with a fix for the problem I had here. My fix is that I will allow all of the current cabinet members to choose if they would like to run again for the position, and if they do, I will have them tell me why they believe they should stay in the cabinet for another term. If someone does not want to do this, then I will put the role up for any citizen who would like to run for the role.

For this election of sorts, I will have a list of questions given to everyone who wants to run for a position. Then, I will have them private message me their answers to these questions. I would also question these people further if I believe that I need more information on them or what they would like to do while in the cabinet. After the running period is over, I will look over all of the applications and deem who I seem fit for the role.

Before I wrap up this section I would like to discuss one specific cabinet role that I will not follow this procedure on:

Vice-Delegate

For the vice delegate role, I would like to choose a fresh face, but I will still allow the previous vice-delegate to run for the position if they would like. This application process will run similarly to the last, but I will only open up the role to people who have experience in leadership and management in TEP. I would also go more in-depth with my questions to make sure that whoever runs is well-equipped for this position. Similarly to the other cabinet roles, once the application time is over, I will look over all of the applications I have been given, and choose the person I deem the best choice.

These elections will not last for long, as I would like to get my term started as soon as possible. I will most likely only accept applications for a few days before further questioning and review. Once that is finished, I can start my delegation.

Culture

I would like to discuss Culture quite a bit here, as I do feel as if it’s been very quiet as of late, the only exception being the Hunger Games events and regional polls. Culture needs to get a rough push in the right direction. I’m not going to try and take over Culture or anything of that sort, I would just like to be able to help them out before they can get on their feet and walk on their own.

I plan on doing this by encouraging Culture to do a lot more events. Right now we are only doing events every few weeks to a month, I would like to up that to more than one event per week. Many events can take place that will not get old from week to week, such as movie nights, gaming nights, and just general chatting. I will leave it up to the discretion of the Minister for what events they do, but I would like to institute a quota.

This quota would be around one event a week, just so I can make sure that everything is working okay, and I’m not spreading them thin. If this does not work I can change it to one event every two weeks. I will make sure that the quota that I institute is something that the Ministry can handle, I will not try to push unrealistic expectations on them. I hope that this technique can make it so we have more events more often, as they help to raise community involvement and are a fun time for everyone!

Recruitment

Right now, I do not believe that recruitment is working at full capacity, especially when it comes to executive recruitment. And now I know how it feels to try and recruit new people to the executive, as I had to do it for Culture. Even though it is a hard endeavor, I would like to get as many people into the executive as we can, because right now I believe we are understaffed, and to run at full capacity we need a bigger force.

The first executive branch we need to recruit for is recruitment itself. Without enough recruitment personnel, we will not be able to send out enough recruitment telegrams. After this, the Ministry can focus on whatever they deem fit, but I will always be there to help out if it is needed, especially in the early stages before we get more recruits.

Endorsement Affairs

I honestly do not believe that we should have a separate Ministry just for endorsements and WA recruitment. I believe that we can just have a sub-section of Recruitment that’s dedicated to what the Endorsement Affairs Ministry covers right now. I do still plan to have a leader of this sub-section, but their direct boss would be the Minister of Recruitment.

News

I cannot deny this, our news service has been doing such amazing work. They have always done great work, but I believe what they have been doing recently has been spectacular. I don’t believe that much if anything, needs to be done to change what the News Ministry is doing and how they are doing it. Great job everyone!

World Affairs

I believe that our current WA Commissioner has been doing a great job at keeping everyone in the know about what is going on in the WA. I also believe that the way we are doing votes right now is pretty good, I do not think that there is much that we need to change. One thing that we could do better is pay more attention to how we have a WA chat and that they should get the role if they want to be able to help decide the vote. I also believe that we should promote more discussions within the threads for each proposal.

Foreign Affairs

The time where I stepped back from the executive, there was one thing on my mind, “Where are all the inter-regional events?”. Back when I was a fresh nation in TEP, my favorite thing was always the inter-regional events. Even as a Culture Minister, I loved to help plan, run, and participate in these events. It now saddens me to see that there are just not as many as there used to be.

Because of this, I would like the Foreign Affairs Ministry to start working with the Culture Ministry and begin inviting our closest friends and allies to participate in more events. I believe that these types of events help us branch out to different regions and get across that we’re all just looking to have a fun time. It could also potentially help us gain good relations with nations we may not be on the good side.

Other than this, I do not know much about what is happening in the Foreign Affairs Ministry, I can’t even seem to find anything about it in the main Discord server. This is an issue for me, but can also be an issue for new people who want to learn about the Ministry. Alongside this, I believe that in conjunction with the News Ministry, the Foreign Affairs Ministry should put out more articles and dispatches about what is currently happening with TEP’s current affairs. These should also be widely broadcast on the website and the Discord servers. I, and probably many others would like to learn about foreign affairs, and this could give people good backing to learn about this Ministry.

And I know, I do not know a lot about what the Ministry has been up to, which is why I will require all the help I can need from the Foreign Affairs Minister. I am not afraid to ask for help, as I am not perfect, and no one is, we are all human. So, because of this, I will be getting all the help I can from the FA Minister and other members of the Cabinet.

UTEP

It’s been quite sad to see UTEP falling towards the wayside in the eyes of the TEP people. I would like to help revitalize UTEP and get more articles and papers published. UTEP is such a unique organization within TEP, and I want to keep it around for future TEPers to see. I will work closely with the UTEP Chancellor to help them with whatever they need to make sure that UTEP thrives again, the way it should be. I would also love to participate in UTEP writings and discussions, it’s such an amazing thing that we have going for us.

EPSA

Again, I was only a part of EPSA for a short while and have not been involved in it much really recently either, so because of that I do not know much about how it works and everything surrounding it right now.

Because of this, as I said for Foreign Affairs, I will be getting all the help I need from my cabinet members who are involved in EPSA and the Admiral of the EPSA. Once I learn all I need to about EPSA, I will be able to do what I think would be the best option.

Conclusion

Before I finish off, I would like to say one thing. I do not reject feedback of any kind nor do I reject any criticism. I welcome all feedback and criticism with open arms. If you do not like what I am doing, tell me, and I will do whatever I can to fix it. My DMs are always open and will always be open during my delegation.

I know you all will pick the correct choice for delegate, and even if you do not choose me, I will respect your decision no matter what. Thank you all for reading this here today, and I hope you will consider me as your vote.

Thank you,

Dead

Do you have any non-NS related plans for the Community of TEP?

Well yes, I do. I plan on helping to do many more Discord events and inter-regional festivals through Discord. I also do not like the look of the threads on the Discord server, so I might see if I can create different channels for the various ministries instead of threads, as it feels very hard to control them and keep track of everything. I want to make everything as streamlined as possible, so I, my cabinet, and the people of TEP have an easier time finding everything and participating in the Discord. I do also want to help draw some attention towards the RP servers, as these show so much potential, and I would like to help bring some more activity and hopefully some more good nations and lore to these RPs. My campaign focuses a lot on NS and my cabinet so I appreciate you asking this question.

To answer your other questions, I do not believe that TEP is a sort of place for non-NS people, as it is inherently tied to NS. But servers such as the Main TEP Discord and the Urth Discord can be places for non-NS people. I do not know where we could get non-NS people from, possibly we could try to promote people asking their friends to join the server, just so we can have that diversity of NS and non-NS people. I do believe that having people who are not from NS can help bring new ideas to how the server acts and feels and can give outside perspectives on things.

An event a week seems very ambitious. When do you plan to reach that metric, what kind of events do you expect, and where do you intend to source te manpower?

Also could you elaborate on your point on UTEP? In the past couple months it’s been more active than it’s been since 2020, and has inspired other regions to comment on its success and reply to its essays. I may be a little defensive here since I’m the Chancellor, but I don’t see how it’s failing.

The event for each week would be something easy to put on, such as a Gartic Phone night, or just some other game that is easy to set up and join. As I said, if there is not enough manpower for this, I will lower the quota, as I do realize the Executive right now does not have that many people right now. I intend to source the manpower from recruiting more TEPers, and if that doesn’t work, I would gladly take up the role of hosting weekly/biweekly events.

As for the UTEP point, I must’ve just not done enough research, I apologize. I checked out all the UTEP threads on the main server and did not see much activity coming from them, so I formed my opinion from that. I am very sorry for my ignorance, I would like to learn about what UTEP has been doing and would love to be able to join.

In terms of endorsement affairs, why do you feel it fits more under recruitment rather than WAA?

I was thinking that it would fall under recruitment because it has to deal with telegramming people to get them to endorse and join the WA. But now that I hear this question, I do not know why I did not think of that before, if I do become delegate, I will put Endorsement Affairs under WAA. It makes more sense that way, thank you for giving me this insight.

From the little you may know about FA, what stance do you think your general policy may be?
(Beyond what you have established)

Culture will need a much bigger team in order to sustainably hold weekly events. Do you plan on working with the ministry to build a bigger and more active team?

To be honest, I do not have much more to say in terms of my FA policy. I am very inexperienced on the topic. I believe that my FA policy will depend on who I choose to elect as my FA Minister, which will depend on who I believe is best for the region. I apologize for being so vague with my FA policy, I hope that this answer will suffice.

Yes, I will be working directly with the ministry to help them build up a team. I will also be working directly with the Recruitment Ministry, so that we can get as many people as possible to join the executive. I was the Culture Minister for a long time, and I know how hard it is to keep up weekly events, which is why I am so flexible in the quota. I will also be willing to fill in any gaps in the Culture team. I would like to help anywhere I can and help build a bigger and better team.

It’s fine- most of what I’d like to see over the next term is the revival of EPSA.

Addendum - EPSA and FA

I would like to say here, that I do not have a clear plan on what to do with EPSA and FA. But I believe that this should not dissuade you from voting for me, because I do still have a plan for these two regions of the government.

For EPSA and the FA, I plan on choosing someone to lead these two, whether it be the same or a new person. I will choose who I deem a great choice for TEP and the people in it.

I will work with whomever I choose to get myself more well-versed in the topic. Using them as a crutch so to speak. I will not let them make decisions for me though, I still plan on making all the decisions for myself, I just plan on having them explain to me situations and the proper information so I can make the right decision.

I believe that sometimes people do need some help, but no one should ever let someone else make decisions for them, it is your right to be able to make your own decisions, no matter what other people say. That is why I am going with this stance on the EPSA and the FA.

Addendum - Swamp

I will drain the swamp.

Addendum - Anti-Swamp Coalition

Anyone who does not think we should drain the swamp does not know what is best for TEP and its people. The swamp must be drained, there is no question about it. The people who are against this initiative do not truly represent the people of this region. My Ministry of Swamp Draining will take TEP into the future and lead us to a golden age.

Addendum - Mentor

There is one last thing I would like to add to my campaign before voting begins. When I joined TEP I met so many great people. This included Zukchiva and Aurora, both of which I met when they were delegates. These two helped guide me and turn me into the TEPer I am today. I owe everything, all my TEP successes, to these two. They always took a chance with me, and I would now like to repay the favor. I would love to be a mentor figure to people who join the Discord or people who are already there, but may be doubtful of what they can do. I want to be to them what Aurora and Zuk were to me, I want to be the delegate that takes chances on the new people, the ones who have not made a name for themselves yet. I want to raise all these TEPers into people thsy can be proud of, people who gave TEP a chance, people who grew because of me and what TEP was able to offer them. I want to be this. I want to be a mentor.

Given your focus on revitalizing certain areas like Culture and recruitment while allowing current cabinet members to reapply, how do you plan to manage the risk of stagnation if many of the same people are retained in leadership roles?

Well although I do plan on letting some cabinet members keep their position, this will most likely be very few. Most of the cabinet positions I would like to fill up with new faces so as to bring new ideas and views into the region. I am only going to let the cabinet members submit applications before everyone else, I will not let them keep their position without doing some work in order to keep it. I do worry about stagnation, which is why I want the majority of my cabinet to be new people, intermixed with some returning people. I believe that this will help reduce the factor of stagnation in the cabinet and the region in general.

Do you think searching for new faces and upping them to a cabinet position will also entail greater involvement in the affected departments on your part? If so which ones would you prioritise?

I would like to believe that new faces would help to up involvement in certain areas of the cabinet. The ones I would like to prioritize are the Recruitment Ministry and the Culture Ministry (though Cappedore is doing a great job there already). This is mostly because Recruitment will help get more people into the executive in places where we need them and Culture will help more people get involved in the executive itself. I believe upping the involvement in these two areas will lead to an increase in involvement region-wide.
