MBE BAN ON NATIONALS IN BAYKALIA BEGINS

The ban for Morst nationals in Baykalia began this morning, as the clock struck midnight.

The embassy program in Baykalia was thankful that ‘almost all’ Morst nationals in Baykalia departed when they were asked to.

Morstaybishlian passports are no longer valid for travel to, through and in the nation.

The prime minister has stated yesterday that no further progression on the Posol Industries scandal could be made between both parties, and the High-Chancellor of Baykalia has refused to allow the MBE to understand what happened.

ROYALS REMEMBER PRINCE THADEUS FOUR YEARS AFTER HIS DEATH

Royals and celebrities joined Princesses Rosamund and Harriet to honour their late brother Prince Thadeus this morning, on the 4th anniversary of his death after being assassinated by Ethalrian operatives on the 2017 Royal Parade in Sani Bursil.

Hundreds of mourners attended the service, which was held outside of a chapel on Dentington Street, near where he was fatally shot. The King, the Queen, and other royals and celebrities also gathered for the memorial service. Members of the public also paid tribute, leaving flowers, messages and photographs on the gates of the palace, which was Prince Thadeus’s official residence. Both Rosamund and Harriet addressed the congregation with warm messages, such as this one from Harriet:

“He will always be remembered for his public service, and behind the front pages of the media, to us, two of his sisters, he was simply the best sibling in the world.”

MAJOR TSUNAMI IN THE BOREAN SEA

At around 17:51 local time, a 9.2 magnitude urthquake happened on the bed of the Borean Sea, near the coast of Aduraszna. Nations in the danger zone issued emergency evacuation warnings, including Aduraszna, Pledonia and Nystatiszna, before the tsunami made first contact with Borea and Yasteria within the hour.

The tsunami devastated the southern Aduraszna and northern Pledonian coastlines, whilst also leaving millions in damages across the other countries. Services in each espective country have begun search parties after the tsunami’s secondary waves dissipated. Over 10 million people have been displaced, and over 100,000 people have died as a direct result of the natural disaster.

The Morstaybishlian government has sent humanitarian aid to all nations effected, and charitable donation has already raised over 15 million KRB in the first 12 hours, to be given in relief efforts. The MBE’s aid will include providing safe water, adequate sanitation, basic nutrition and routine medical care services to vulnerable peoples, as well as assisting search parties recover survivors and find bodies.

SOUTH STAYNES HITS THE POLLS TONIGHT

Registered voting citizens of South Staynes are due to hit local polling stations from 7pm tonight for a critical vote which could determine the future of Great Morstaybishlia as we know it.

After Labour won the 2021 general election, the returning prime minister had to make inner-party deals with the Valerian Labour faction to stay afloat, where apart of the deal included three referendums; a name change, devolution and an indepence referendum - the latter comes first and is today, and the outcome of that will determine both the future of the nation and whether or not the other two referendums will need to happen.

Opinion polling between a four day period from 6th until 10th of June were conducted by the MBC with a random selection of 2,000 eligible South Staynish citizens. The poll covered all age groups, from 18-23 all the way to 75+. In the poll, people were asked “Should South Staynes be an independent country?”, 40 percent ticked “Yes”, 46 percent ticked “No”, and 14 percent was undecided. This is a big swing in contrast to a poll the MBC conducted in 2019, where voting results for the same question saw over 66 percent ticking “No” for independence and 31 percent ticking “Yes”. That left 3 percent undecided, and was a lead of 35 percent of voters who wanted to remain.

This is a huge margin of undecided voters, who, if a majority aligned with “Yes” for independence on the day, could see South Staynes begin its transition from a constituent country of the MBE to an independent, sovereign nation state.

Votes will be counted through the night. The MBC will be reporting on the results as they come. The final result will be published at 8AM tomorrow morning.

MASS PROTEST IN MARISLIAN REGION

Following the South Staynish independence referendum, which will be conducted tonight at 7pm as citizens there hit the polls for the question of “Should South Staynes be an independent country?”, many cities in the Marislian region have seen violent protests against the government.

The violence comes after the government outlined three referendums for South Staynes in March following the inner-party deal with Valerian Labour faction leader Nellie Hermin and returning Prime Minister Franklin Barvata; and yet has not fixed or once mentioned a date for an independence referendum for the Marislian region of Caltharus.

Protesters were met with force as police in riot gear were deployed to stop the chaos. Over fifty people have already been arrested for violence in the past two hours in Fort Nocturne alone.

Protesters were seen throwing bricks, glass, and other objects at police lines, with chants like “We are more important!” and “Give us our independence referendum!”

MARIP leader Romilda von Anzitter condemned the violence, but was seen in more peaceful streets of the protests calling out the government for failing to address the Marislian resolve.

HERMIN “EXCITED” FOR TONIGHT

Leader of the Valerian Labour faction Nellie Hermin has called tonights South Staynish independence referendum “a fantastic time to be Valerian”, as she looks forward to a result which would allow South Staynes to exit the MBE and become its own nation.

She has encouraged the South Staynish people to “go out and vote, the time has never been more important”.

SOUTH STAYNES SAYS NO

South Staynes votes NO in a historic independence referendum – and with a margin of 57 per cent to 43 per cent, the union will remain intact.

The Secretary of State for South Staynes Nellie Hermin, who formed government with Franklin Barvata as apart of an “inner-party deal”, conceded defeat in her fight for South Staynish independence, after a record turnout of 83.5 per cent. With the results in from all provinces, “No” won with 62,524,523 votes over 47,171,802 for “Yes”.

Nellie Hermin said that she “respected the will of the people of South Staynes” in her concession, but also added that she “looked forward to voting in the next two referendums”.

Following on from a dramatic night, a mathematical certainty was declared where the “No” votes won by 07:33.

From outside of Flarin Street, Franklin Barvata made the following comment: “I am very pleased that the MBE has chosen to stay together in this troubled time, and I look forward to the less stressful referendums in the days to come. Our nations are stronger in unity”.

The prime minister also announced that the next two referendums for devolution and name change will go ahead this month as planned.

HORACE LANX FACES THE HEAT FOR AFFAIR WITH A CHILD

Home Secretary Horace Lanx has been accused by his wife Sandra Lanx of cheating, after the fifty six year old was supposedly caught by her yesterday afternoon in the bedroom with a seventeen year old school friend of his daughter, who will not be named for legal reasons.

Though despite the allegations, Sandra Lanx has not yet given solid evidence to police regarding this affair, which is during a pivotal make or break period for the MBE; and also his marriage, as Sandra has only just recovered from having life threatening treatment.

Lanx is currently a senior member of government, and extramarital affairs go against the ministerial code, which has led to many calls across the board for him to resign.

If the affair is confirmed to be with an under eighteen year old, Lanx could be in legal trouble due to her still being at school.

MOUNTING PRESSURE ON THE PRIME MINISTER TO SACK HORACE LANX

Pressure has not been higher for Prime Minister Franklin Barvata to fire Secretary of State Horace Lanx for the ongoing allegations of him being in an extramarital affair with a 17 year old school girl.

Horace Lanx’s estranged wife, Sandra Lanx, has taken Horace to court, with an official date set for the 23rd of July.

Two neighbours of Lanx have reached out to police in conjunction with the incident, reporting that they had seen Horace enter the premises with the girl.

Despite these eye witness accounts, his denials were accepted by the government’s principal law officers and the Labour Chief Whip following the statement he made to the House last week.

When the MBC asked why the prime minister has taken no action, he said this:

“I do not want Horace’s reputation and career to be ruined through a malicious rumour.”

No cabinet member has spoken out about the situation yet, and people are left wondering where their loyalties lie.

SOUTH STAYNES NO MORE

The results of last nights referendum was decided after a majority was reached during counting at approximately 05:02 this morning.

The people of South Staynes voted near unanimously FOR changing the name of South Staynes to Valeria, the name of the kingdom there in and before the 13th century. 92 million people turned out, which is about 66.7 percent, and of that 88.4 percent voted for the change, the largest majority in a Morstaybishlian referendum ever.

The South Staynes Name Referendum Act is due to pass through the House of Representatives ahead of its first House of Peers reading on the 27th. The first and second readings there may take up to two weeks, before it is passed to Lambertus VII for Royal Assent. If it is signed, the act will be enacted two months from the date, and then the nation will be legally regarded as Valeria.

If the Act passes; passports, drivers licences and other forms of personal and business identification will have one year to reapply, otherwise it will be considered invalid.

MAJOR CABINET ATTACK

A major terrorist attack occurred at 11:04 in Ewising, Joralesia today, attempting the assassination of the prime minister, among the murder of many others, triggering an investigation into how it happened.

A TBG-7 thermobaric warhead was fired from an RPG-7 behind the wall of a construction site, travelling through the window of a meeting the Lieutenant Governor Lance Jedwin was hosting between Joralesian administration and Morstaybishlian Cabinet members, including the prime minister, in Lantern Tower.

The rocket propelled explosion killed everyone present in the room, and injured dozens in offices and corridors nearby, causing two floors on the east side of the building to collapse, killing the Defence Secretary Mikhail Sankuda, Joralesian Lieutenant Governor Lance Jedwin and Reform Party JOR chairwoman Kiara Fassel, who was expected to succeed Lance Jedwin in his position that evening.

Also dead are Guy Perry, senior member of the professional staff of the Party, Arintrudie Beveret, President of the National Reform Convention, and the following Reform Joralesia Party members: Erica Thattock, Bill Richards, Sir Melvin Veerin, Velma Crooks, Allermin Goraine, Kimchael Brassren, Fischan Son, Ursula Lonburg and Erhin Comber. Two cleaning staff, Kate Broom and Pat Maurice were also victims.

Prime Minister Franklin Barvata exited the room moments before the tragedy when he went to use the lavatory. He was escorted by Home Secretary Vellin Rinardel, both of whom survived the attack, though not unscathed. Franklin Barvata was pulled from underneath the rubble after three hours and Vellin Rinardel after five. The prime minister suffered four broken ribs, breaks to the Ulna and Radius of his left arm where he is believed to have used it to protect his head, and a broken left clavicle, among many deep lacerations to his limbs, and a large laceration in his forehead.

Home Secretary Vellin Rinardel was on his way back to the meeting room when the explosion sent him hurtling back, fracturing a hip bone, causing a minor lung collapse and a broken wrist. Both men were rushed to hospital.

The Prime Minister later said the bombing was “a tragic failure in security and an attempt to cripple the Government.”

Snipers had been positioned on many surrounding buildings to Lantern Tower, and the attendants had been surrounded by close personal protection for a week leading up to today because of tensions in Borea and tensions in Joralesia.

The culprit of the attack was found fleeing the scene, from his hiding position in a construction site not far from the meeting. The man, a Kyrlot national named Fai’e’ad Tazennasz, is believed to have acted alone, despite news earlier today that Franklin Barvata and his Cabinet had been instrumental in the organisation of a general strike in Kyrloth to attempt to topple the Tass regime. The dictator was widely speculated to have been involved.

Fai’e’ad Tazennasz admitted to using a series of underground passageways to steer clear of the police and sniper presence - tunnels which date back to the early late 19th century - to carry out his offensive. Though the Joralesian Government filled in many of the known tunnels in the mid to late 20th century, it was always speculated some had been forgotten about. Police investigating are yet to find the entrance he used.

At home, Riannar Karmer is widely expected to assume the prime ministership in an acting capacity until Franklin Barvata is able to return to his duties, though when, is not yet known.

Mikhail Sankuda, who was among the dead, was a prolific and well respected member of Cabinet, and Kiara Fassel, a popular member of the Reform Party in Joralesia was expected to take over the Party that evening, later leading it into the October elections.

ILL TIMED INDEPENDENCE ANNOUNCEMENT

Riannar Karmer to the Press

Riannar Karmer SHOCKS the WORLD with an announcement to the press a day after the Joralesian terrorist attack, in which he announces Labour’s plan to introduce legislation to the House of Representatives which would give way to an independence referendum for the Marislian region.

Met by public outrage, Riannar Karmer did not try and defend himself from the barrage of press questions following his announcement outside of Flarin Street. Social media erupted, criticising him for trying to ‘break Morstaybishlia apart’. Many politicians, including Opposition Leader Benjamin Wardola, capitalised on this move, with Wardola calling him ‘Karmer the MBE Harmer’ during what was described as the ‘Karmer Crisis’, as the First Secretary acting as prime minister ‘attempts to destroy the status quo’. He called for a general election, the second time already after the general election in March, where he lost fifty five seats for the Conservatives.

On the other end of the spectrum, MARIP leader Romilda von Anzitter announced her delight as her long campaign for the independence referendum was met with an answer. Her public frustration had not gone unnoticed, as during the announcement of the South Staynes referendum earlier this year she was left wondering why Marislia did not have the same treatment.

Franklin Barvata, who was in emergency surgery less than 24 hours ago, was, according to a Flarin Street spokesperson, ‘left out’ of discussion on this topic; which leaves the public wondering if Riannar Karmer has ulterior motives, or if he is a keen supporter of equality. It seems cabinet was not consulted on the matter either, as several members have expressed their intention to resign if the discussion in parliament goes ahead.

Karmer’s approval rating dropped to an impressive all time low because of his widely acclaimed insensitivity to current affairs; an MBC poll found that only twelve percent of people thinking he is doing well, down from seventy one percent immediately after the terrorist attack.

News at Eight:

COULD KARMER BE ONTO SOMETHING?

New data released from Complex and VoteCast predict that, in the event of a Marislian independence referendum that was held now, the Marislian people would vote to remain as apart of Caltharus. Following the Joralesian attacks on senior members of the Government, including Prime Minister Franklin Barvata and Joralesian Lieutenant Governor Lance Jedwin, where the latter was killed, independence groups across the MBE has fallen in support, including MARIP; and Labour, especially the approval rating of the prime minister has risen significantly, to their highest levels since 2020, but is it enough?

Some political analysts believe that Acting Prime Minister Riannar Karmer’s decision to hold an early Marislian independence referendum is a calculated move, as holding one soon after this event would better the chances of this once-in-a-generation event resulting in their remain. But with the Conservative and Liberal parties making their intention to vote against the forthcoming Marislia Independence Referendum Act that will be provisionally discussed in parliament this morning, many wonder if Karmer will indeed get his way, or whether his minority government would fall short of the required MPs to pass legislation; and with a track record of rebellion in key voting, including the Anti-Terrorism Act, which failed twice and triggered the March general election; many critics believe he will fail to get it off the ground.

However, before the third voting of the Anti-Terrorism Act earlier this year, Franklin Barvata shuffled the Whips, which saw a reduction in rebel voting, enough to get it over the line. Has tougher Whips brought in an era of obedience for the party, soon enough for them to get this legislation out?

With MARIP leader Romilda von Anzitter making it known her party will take the oath, a process which involves swearing allegiance to King and Country (ironic as an independence party), a vote for the referendum will already be bolstered by a factor of 89.

And with Osbourne Saudaran visiting Flarin Street this morning, many believe Karmer is taking all the steps to form a coalition government with the Democrats, who’s leader said before the March general election that he would ‘never be in coalition with Labour’; but times have changed. If a coalition government is formed between both Labour and the Democrats, Labour will finally have a majority government at its helm. But many are asking; if this is the case, at what cost? What will Karmer be willing to sacrifice?

Riannar Karmer gave a statement outside of Flarin Street, finally sharing with the world press his reasoning for this move:

“Marislia should be given the chance to vote for their future, and that is something I am committed to giving in my acting capacity as prime minister. Their movement is significantly stronger than that of South Staynes, who were granted an independence referendum earlier this year. It is only fair we treat entities the same. It is a chance to put things right in this once-in-a-generation vote, and if they vote to stay, we will welcome the outcome and finally put it to bed.”

News at Eleven:

POLICE DISCOVERY COULD ASSIST IN INTELLIGENCE

News just in from Joralesia as in the early hours of the morning over there, investigators found an entrance to a vast network of underground tunnels, forming a greater catacomb complex. Opening the manhole, it revealed a network of untouched smugglers tunnels once part of a bigger criminal network system utilised up until the mid 20th century. Only one tunnel network had been discovered since the 1950s.

Police have began the process of mapping these tunnels in hopes of finding other manholes to the surface; though it is a dangerous process as some sections of the tunnel systems become crawl spaces, and some parts would have become unstable.

It is expected that after other entrances have been flagged and all routes in the underground network has been mapped, that police will fill the space with cement like other tunnels that were blocked in and before the 1950s.

NAVY DEAL BLOWS TO KYRLOTH

In the midst of the ensuing conflict in the Borean Sea, returning Kyrloth warships and transport vessels from a failed Kurandian invasion force were targeted by Capital Offensive Group 10 (COG-10), which has been operating in the North Concordian Ocean and Itur Sea region as apart of the Third Fleet.

Reports by Third Fleet Command detailed how their nuclear submarine, MBS Tiger Shark managed to evade Kyrloth naval detection and successfully sink two transport ships and a frigate that was heading to ports at Azmarin/Zlovskavaar in the course of a 48 hour period, at the expense of an estimated five thousand lives. Elsewhere, the air force established air superiority in the sea from MBS Marvant, the nuclear carrier in COG-10, downing a dozen aircraft in a fierce campaign, but loosing three themselves. Kyrloth has not yet released an official death toll.

Though now Franklin Barvata is incapacitated and Riannar Karmer has taken command as temporary acting prime minister, the world is left waiting to see if he is willing to release more information on Morstaybishlia and Norgsveldet’s end goal with Kyrloth and the conflict. It has so far been the deadliest conflict Morstaybishlia has been engaged in for the past four years, the last most deadly naval conflict was in the Auroran-Pacific War during the Pacific Theatre.

KARMER CONVINCES CABINET?

This morning members of the cabinet could be seen leaving Flarin Street in great haste after it is understood the Cabinet has agreed to a method of pursuing a bill which will trigger a Marislian independence referendum, according to an anonymous internal source.

If a Marislian independence referendum is around the corner, many question how the minority Labour government will be able to pass the threshold of votes. Even with Romilda von Anzitter announcing her plans to take the oath to maximise the chance of the bill passing, early polling suggests that Labour does not have what it takes to cross the necessary eight hundred and ninety six votes to pass legislation if the abstentionist party breaks all of their rules and stands in parliament. The seats required for a majority have historically deducted those held by abstentionist parties, which is currently eight hundred and fifty two. Holding eight hundred and sixty three seats, Labour is a far cry from what hold they had before the March election, and it is predicted by an internal Labour spokesperson that ‘at least a quarter’ of the eight hundred and sixty three Labour MPs would vote against their own party to preserve the status quo of Great Morstaybishlia.

KARMER TRIGGERS LEADERSHIP ELECTION

Acting in his place, Riannar Karmer has announced that he will be contesting Prime Minister Franklin Barvata for Leader of the Labour Party and thus Prime Minister as he is ‘no longer involved or capable of performing his duty in his condition’.

It is understood that Franklin Barvata will not be able to run as he is undergoing a series of surgeries and needs a long time to recover when they have been performed, but it is understood Barvata is currently conscious and aware of what is transpiring in the capital.

Karmer has not escaped this announcement unscathed, with backlash from the Conservatives and many Labour backbenchers calling him out on the ethics of this move. But Karmer and members of the cabinet have stood by this decision saying to parliament that it is ‘the necessary steps to take going forward’.

Alongside this announcement, Riannar Karmer has informed parliament he will be replaced as acting prime minister by Chancellor Arlin Klements. This was an expected move on behalf of Karmer, as running for a leadership election whilst acting in capacity for the leader is considered bias and is not permitted under the Labour Party constitution.

KARMER CONTESTED BY GHANSOLAWEN

In the few hours immediately following major announcements regarding a Labour leadership election and the transfer of the acting prime minister position from Riannar Karmer to Arlin Klements, former Deputy Prime Minister Kimbet Ghansolawen, who served under former Labour Prime Minister Verlhanz Rothgerus, has announced he will be contesting his old cabinet colleague Riannar Karmer as Labour leader and subsequently prime minister.

The Labour veteran, who is currently 81, has enjoyed a fifty one year spell as Member of Parliament for North Gallings. Ghansolawen is the third longest continually serving MP, having begun his tenure on election day in 1970, one day before a national coalition - forming the Crowcasa War cabinet - would declare war on the Grand Matriarchy of Ethalria, beginning the Auroran Imperial War.

Critics of his age and controversial past have been batted down by those allied with Ghansolawen. Factoring in the age of Rothgerus at his exit as premier; 84, and the ever pressing controversial agenda of candidate Riannar Karmer, whom Ghansolawen followers say ‘is attempting to uproot the MBE’, go on to also say that Ghansolawen is ‘our best voice of old Labour’.

No other Labour MPs have yet put themselves forth as candidates for the election.

RIANNAR KARMER NEW PRIME MINISTER

Riannar Karmer at the Labour result conference

Following a month of election buildup, Riannar Karmer has been confirmed as the new Labour Party leader, and subsequently takes over as Prime Minister from Franklin Barvata following a heated contest with the former Deputy Prime Minister Kimbet Ghansolawen.

The veteran Labour MP got over 55.1% of more than 3.25 million votes cast, beating his rival Kimbet Ghansolawen. However, Karmer faced several unexpected resignations in cabinet, including Stephanie Goziro and Ron Wehrasbi, two cabinet veterans who were seen as Karmer supporters prior to his victory. Other senior figures including Andrew Chemlin and Nellie Hermin urged the party’s MPs to rally with him.

At the special conference in Laiaton, Bursil, the new prime minister reaffirmed his commitment to the right to vote for Marislia, announced domestic and international plans he had for office, and gave credit to his opponent. However, Ghansolawen attacked Karmer, giving him a grave warning in his followup speech, saying that Karmer was ‘going down a dark path’ and that he should ‘consider alternatives’.

Franklin Barvata gave no comment from his hospital room in Ewising, Joralesia.

BAYKALIAN PASSENGER JET SHOT DOWN INTO MORSTAYBISHLIA

Earlier this hour, a corporate jet confirmed to be owned by Posol Industries was SHOT DOWN by Baykalian anti air missile defences in Baykalia, near the border to Jomsgord Province, east Caltharus. Parts of the jet scattered the landscape as shrapnel travelling at terminal velocity from approximately forty one thousand feet crashed into nearby farmland and woodlands, also narrowly missing cars on the B4281. The army was deployed in Jomsgord Province to secure major passageways into Morstaybishlia from the fascist state, and air activity in a hundred kilometer radius was grounded as Morstaybishlian A-121 Rooks were scrambled to secure the airspace.

Baykalian High Command has so far failed to disclose information or claim responsibility for the incident despite mounting political pressure from various governments across the continent, including at home, where Morstaybishlian Prime Minister Riannar Karmer declared Lady Posol in a reactionary speech “a despicable tin pot matriarch of a backwater swamp”, for so far not communicating with Morstaybishlia.

Moments ago, the Home Office confirmed that this incident came after the Morstaybishlian cyber attack “Operation Wraith” was successful in infiltrating a secure Baykalian network and extracting “hundreds” of potentially sensitive files. The Home Secretary had a few comments to make:

“This has been a successful infiltration into a despotic corporatocracy’s back room dealings, political and social discrimination, and interference in the politics of other nations. What we extracted could be so important to besmirching and potentially contributing to the end of one of Aurora’s last pockets of totalitarianism. All of their files are encrypted and will take time to crack before we pursue charges in the International Forum and UNAC.”

The Home Office also confirmed that Remis Posol, CEO of Posol Industries and husband to Lady Posol perished in the attack. A key government informant has told us Remis was expected to confess state secrets in Sani Bursil for a pardon on “crimes” Posol Industries has commited that he had been unaware of.

As guns point at each other across the border, many think that irreversible acts of war have been sowed here, today, by the Baykalian government. The world will be watching this unfold.

BAKYALIA BREAKS THE SILENCE

This morning, officials in Baykalia broke the silence on the ongoing border crisis that involved Baykalian border defences shooting down one of their own, a jet that was bringing CEO of Posol Industries Remis Posol from Chita to Sani Bursil. Their silence was broken when four-star General Irakli Dvalidze of Baykalian High Command issued a statement to state owned media in Chita.

“Remis Posol tried to defect to an enemy state attempting to discredit and frame us for things we did not do. In the face of this we had no choice but to eliminate him to preserve ourselves and our statehood from the hungry Morstaybishlia. A country which wants to eat us like they did Ethalria. They always want to bring us down for our ideals, our great ideals of our great Baykalian state. May The Posol Family Save Baykalia!”

Prime Minister Riannar Karmer has told the MBC that “the fact that Baykalian High Command acknowledges these actions yesterday, but consistently fails to enter dialogue with us is a clear indication the fascists have no intention of taking this racket seriously.”

Police and forensic work has begun at the sites of plane debris. Since the incident, Lady Posol has not made a public appearance and has not been seen since Saturday.
