Wedding Bells

OOC: SY, I just went ahead and posted it.

Cecilia looked at herself in the mirror. “You look gorgeous, my child,” the Queen Dowager said, clasping her hands together.

Cecilia smiled. “I do. I mean this used to be my mother’s wedding dress.” Her grandmother smiled.

“I must admit that when she married your father, I was a bit…unsure for lack of better words. I was not too keen on having a Vekaiyun Vayan Catholic as a son-in-law, but your father was quite polite and everything.”

Cecilia sighed. “I…I’m starting to wonder if this is right. I hope I’m not rushing into things.”

“Oh Cecilia. It’s okay to be nervous. This is a huge step you’re taking. And to be honest, I am very proud of you. I am proud of all of my grandchildren.”

She went over to a small chest on the dresser and took something out. She walked over to Cecilia and placed it into the vulpine vixen’s hands. It was a blue sapphire heart encircled by golden roses. Cecilia’s jaw dropped. “I…can’t…I can’t take this.”

“My mother gave this to me on my wedding day,” Cecilia’s grandmother said. “I want you to have it.” Tears began to build up in Cecilia’s eyes. Anatansya hugged her granddaughter. “I want you to know that I am very proud of you, Cecilia. I am proud of all of my children and grandchildren. After I lost your mother, I prayed to the Den Mother to let me live so I could see all of my grandchildren start their own families. I thank her for each day that I’m with each and every one of you.”

Cecilia smiled. “Thank you.”

“Now…Tell me more about my future grandson-in-law,” the Queen Dowager asked.

Cecilia was holding several stick pins between her fangs as she worked on her sisters’ bridesmaids’ outfits. “Hold still, Anna. I’m almost done if you would stop wiggling.” Anna mumbled something. “There. Finished,” Cecilia said.
Anna, Taisyia, and Natalka looked at themselves in the mirrors.

“It’s a surprise that you didn’t reject the position of Premier, Cecilia, and become a fashion designer,” Natalka told her sororal twin sister.

Cecilia shrugged. “Well, I guess I could always be a fashion designer on the side. But first I have to get through this wedding.”

“When do Stu and his family come over and help with the preparations?” Taisyia asked.

“I don’t know. He’s supposed to call me and let me know.”

Volkgoroda International Airport, Volkgoroda, Laiatan - 5:05 am

Stu walked with his parents through the airport towards the trams after being cleared through the security checkpoint and customs. Each of them carried their own carry-on, leaving their larger luggage for the baggage carriers to deal with. They boarded the tram and rode it to the new terminal dedicated to travel to and from Vulshain following the signing of the SITO treaty between the two countries. The tram ride was quick, arriving at the new terminal in several minutes.

At the terminal, throngs of Vulshainian tourists and businessmen walked in the opposite direction of Stu and his parents. They traveled to their gate and took a seat for the 6:00 am flight.

Gate Б12 - 5:30 am

The airport worker called the passengers on the flight for boarding, most of them lobos going to visit the ally’s capital. Stu and his parents boarded with the A group, allowing them to pick their seats first. The trio found a good area to sit, and placed their bags into the overhead bin and under the chairs in front of them. The flight attendants did their pre-flight check and safety instructions. The jet taxied to the runway, and took off for Kitsuniva.

Kitsuniva, Vulshain - 11:25 am

After claiming their bags and heading out curbside, the trio hailed a cab. The cab took them to the palace.

Stu exited the taxi with his parents and helped his father pull their bags from the trunk as his mother paid the taxi driver. With the bags unloaded the taxi drove off. Stu walked with his parents towards the security building in front of the palace.

Fred was on guard duty. “Ah Commandant. I didn’t expect to see you here. And you must be his parents I assume.”
He smiled when he saw Stu.

Stu nodded and shook Fred’s hand. “Yes, this is my father Frederik, and my mother Natalia.” His parents smiled and shook Fred’s hand. “It’s nice to meet you,” Frederik said.

Fred smiled. “Nice to meet you two as well.” Two guards approached. Fred waved them away. “It’s alright. They’re clear.” The two guards nodded. “I’m guessing you’re here to surprise the Premier?”

Stu nodded. “Thought it’d be a nice surprise.”

“That’s good. Might improve her mood. She’s been a bit on edge lately what with the wedding and work and all.”

“I understand how that goes. Maybe we’ll be able to get a bit of stress off her.”

Fred nodded. “Alright, you three can head on in. I assume you know where her office is right?”

“I don’t, actually. Didn’t get the chance to see it when we visited it.”

“Ah. I see.” Fred gave the directions to Cecilia’s office to Stu. “Alright. Head on in.”

Stu thanked Fred as he and his parents walked into the palace and made their way to Cecilia’s office. Stu knocked on her door.

The sound of someone mumbling something could be heard from inside the office.
The door was unlocked.

Stu smiled when he saw Cecilia after she opened the door.

“Stu!? Frederik!? Natalia!?” Cecilia hugged them. Her hair was a mess, and she had bags underneath her eyes. “Oh Den Mother. What are you doing here? I was expecting a phone call from you before you came. How was your flight over here?”
Southern Yugoslavia says
Stu hugged Cecilia tightly and kissed her cheek. “I thought we’d surprise you. As for the flight, not too bad. That new terminal they built in Volkgoroda was pretty nice and easy to get to.” Frederik and Natalia hugged Cecilia back.

“I’m sorry if I’m a mess. I’ve been under a bit of stress what with the wedding and going over some new tech ideas for the military. The Strategic Innovation Research and Design Department (SIRDD) has been turning out new designs faster than I can look them over. I swear I should probably ban coffee. They might slow them down some.”

Stu laughed a bit. “Well, hopefully the designs are at least decent quality since they’re being pushed out so fast.”

“Pretty much. Thank the Den Mother I have a background in technology.” She laughed back. “Come on in,” she said. She quickly move some books off a couple of chairs and attempted to straighten her desk. “I apologize for the mess, but I’ve been very busy. We have the Royal Congress elections coming up soon, and I been going through the lists of who’s running for what party. We have a few one-member parties too, I think a few more than before.”

Stu nodded. “Zak’s the same way too. We’ve got the national election October 15th. A third of the Verkhnya’s up for grabs, as well as all of the Niznhnya. Not to mention the presidential election.”

“So, are there any joke parties running in your elections?”

Stu shook his head. “No. At least, none that I know of.”

Cecilia laughed. “We got a few to be honest. We got the ‘Give Us Freedom and Beer or We’re Moving Party,’ the 'We’re a Joke Party Okay, So Shut Up Party,” the ‘Silly Moustache Party’, the ‘Small Font for Unemployment Party,’ the ‘Let’s Party all Night Long Party,’ the 'Which Way to the Bathroom Party, and my personal favorite:
'We Are Still Thinking of a Name for Our Party, but Don’t Worry, We’ll Think of Something Party."

Stu chuckled as he sat down next to his parents.

“Political satire,” she admitted. “So, Frederik, Natalia, how have you two been since I last saw you?” She sat down behind her desk, trying to straighten her hair.

Frederik smiled. “Nothing to complain about. Still enjoying retired life.” Natalia laughed and nodded in agreement. “That about sums it up.”

“I see. Well, I’m glad you all came, and I actually appreciate the surprise very much. I need some help getting the wedding set up and all. I’ve been able to do some of it along with the rest of my family, but still…”

“It’s nice to have both families involved.” Stu said.

“That it is, that it is.” Cecilia sighed. “Probably tomorrow we can head over to Kieounava, so you can see what we have gotten done.”

“That sounds perfect,” Stu replied.

She smiled. “So, where will you all be staying?”

“Wherever is easiest.”

“Well, I guess staying at the palace here would be good.”

Stu nodded. “That’d be fine.” He turned to his parents, who nodded.

“Alright. Sam will show you to your rooms. I’m sorry, but I have to finish up this last bit of paperwork.” She placed her hand on a stack of papers.
“You do too much, Cecilia.” Sam said as he entered the office. “You must be Frederik and Natalia. I’m Samuil, Cecilia’s younger brother and the King of Vulshain. But…” He laughed. “You can call me Sam. And please, no titles. As far as I can see it, you’re part of the family already.”

Frederik and Natalia shook Sam’s hand. “It’s nice to meet you, Sam.” Frederik replied.

“The same here as well,” Sam said. “I hope your trip here went well.”

“It was pretty nice,” Natalia said.

Sam nodded. Just then there was a commotion outside the hall.
“Hey! You can’t go in there! Get back here!”
A nerdy looking human rushed into the office, with two CPGs behind him. “I sorry Your Majesty, Lady Premier, but he rushed right by us before we could stop him.”
“It’s perfectly alright Peter. And what is it this time, Dr. Victor Ivannostoch?”
Dr. Ivannostoch showed her. “You see I have come up with a new weapon technology for our military.”
Sam whispered to Frederik, “Oh boy. Here we go again. He’s been at this for weeks.”
The scientist activated a hologram projector showing what looking liked a four legged giant robot. “This is the Argus! A heavily armed and armored robot, it will clearly destroy entire enemy encampments with its machine gun turrents and missile launchers. And then…”
“Dr. Ivannostoch, for the last time, we will have to talk with the Laiatanese military liaison as well about this.”
“But he keeps turning down my designs, saying that we should be focusing more on tanks than mechs!”
“I understand, but it was believed that having our closest ally helping to keep us in line when it comes to military enginnering was a good idea.”
“But the Laiatanese have no imagination no sense of wonder and awe!”
“Do you know who that man is?” She pointed at Stu.
"Um…
“He’s the Commandant of the Laiatanese Republican Guard, and my soon-to-be husband.”
“Stu this is Dr. Ivannostoch, a military researcher who apparently lacks manners.”

“It’s nice to meet you.” Stu extended his hand to the Doctor.

The doctor shock his hand. “Well, maybe you can talk some sense into the Laiatanese military liaison! He keeps saying that we don’t need mechs!”

“The liaison we’ve sent here expresses the wishes of the Laiatanese military and government. It’s not his personal wishes.”

“Well…Um…I…”
“I believe that he has defeated you, already, Doctor.” Sam said. “And I don’t think he appreciate your rudeness, because my sister and I don’t appreciate it at all.”
The two CPGs moved to escort him out of the office. “Don’t touch me! Don’t touch me!” Dr. Ivannostoch left with the guards. “Sorry about that Stu, Natalia, Frederik.”
Cecilia said. “I’m used to it as I get people like that from time to time.”

Stu nodded. “It’s okay, I’ve dealt with people like that before.”

“I’m surprised you haven’t had someone come to and try to convince you to build mechs.”
Sam said.

“General consensus among the government is that the mechs are too expensive and unreliable as a program. There’ve been some that support it, but they were ultimately defeated.”

“Oh? So you had some projects in the past? So how did you defeat the supporters of these mech projects?”

“They were cancelled by an executive decision. The Narodnoe was with the president, and didn’t challenge it.”

"Ah. Well, that’s good.”

(OOC: This is a collab post between myself and Vulshain.)

IC:

Cecilia then asked, “So, tell me a bit about Laiatan’s mech projects? What did the mechs look like? Were they designed for long-range, close-combat, or a well-rounded mech?”

Stu shrugged. “Most were designed in the fourties. None of the designs made it passed the blueprint stage, and there aren’t many out there. The one I did see was pretty bulky, almost like an old tank only with legs and a turret up top. It was scrapped after they calculated the price, and took the funding and injected the money it into designing more planes and tanks.”

“Okay. So, no one has ever tried to restart the projects?”

Stu shook his head.

“Okay. I see. Well, how are things back home?”

“Pretty good. The election’s in eight days, but we’ve already filled in our absentee ballots. Polls are showing Zak up thirty-some points on the other candidates.”

“That’s good. No chance of him having an upset, right?”

“That’s what it’s looking like.”

“That’s good.” She kissed Stu on the cheek. Her breath stank!

Stu wrinkled his nose a bit but smiled and returned the kiss.

She smiled, not noticing him wrinkling his nose. “Ah. Let me introduce you my oldest sister Anna. Anna this is Stu and his parents.” Cecilia introduce them to each other. “A pleasure to meet my sister’s in-laws. I am Admiral of the Confederate Navy Anna Rainard. Hm…So this is Stu…Hm…?” She grabbed Stu’s chin and turned his head from side to side. “You look okay…But…” She then french kissed him, making sure to keep him from getting away. Cecilia’s jaw dropped and her tail puffed out as her eye went wide in shock.

Stu was taken aback by this and freed himself from Anna’s grasp. “What was that about,” he asked, bewildered.

“Just checking. Not bad. If I wasn’t a lesbian, I might try to take you away from my little Cecilia,” she said laughing a bit.

“Th-thank you?”

She laughed a bit more. “Oh lighten up Stu. I was just teasing you and Cecilia now. Besides, I am happy for you both.” She gave him a hug. “I’m looking forward to having you a part of our family.”
Stu laughed and hugged her back. “I’m glad y’all will be a part of my family too.”

She nodded. “Um…Cecilia?”
“Did you just…I mean…Wait…Did you…”
“Oh my,” Anna laughed. “Stu, you better go take care of now. I’m sorry to cut and run, but I have to do some meetings.” She kissed Stu on the cheek. “It was nice meeting you all.”

“Nice to meet you too,” Stu said as he sat back down next to his parents.

Cecilia returned to normal. “Well…Um…Anna has always been able to make quite a first impression on people.”

Stu nodded. “I can tell.”

“Ahem,” she clearing her throat. “Well, I hope you two didn’t mind that?” She asked Stu’s parents.

“It was uh, certainly interesting,” Frederik responded.

“That’s good. And you three are okay with her being a lesbian now?”

Frederik shrugged. “Who cares? It’s her business, not ours.” Natalia and Stu nodded in agreement.

“That’s good. She and Taisyia suggested we have golden yellow roses at each table at the reception,” Cecilia said as she smiled.

Frederik and Natalia looked a bit worried. “Yellow?”

“Oh yes. Golden yellow roses. They really bring out the warmth and radiance of the wedding.” She didn’t look at their worried faces as she led them to their rooms.
“Stu will be staying in my room. You’ll be staying across the hall from us.”

“O-okay,” Natalia said as they walked into their room.

“Is everything alright? You two aren’t experiencing jet lag now?” The last thing she needed was to have her soon to be in-laws having a heart attack just days before the wedding.

“It’s just that in our country, yellow flowers are for times of mourning and sadness.”

“Oh…Hiss…” Cecilia was a bit embarrassed now. “I wish I had known that before hand. Here, yellow flowers represent friendship and the love between friends.”

“Maybe we could use a different color of flower for the tables,” Stu said.

“Hm…What do blue flowers represent in Laiatan? We could go with blue roses and even red roses?”

“Blue represents peace and truth, so blue roses sound nice,” Natalia said.

“I like that. I do have to tell you that I will be wearing a heart-shaped blue sapphire attached to a chain of golden roses. It belonged to my grandmother. I plan on wearing that now. It holds special meaning to me.”

“Roses made from gold, or gold colored roses?”

“Roses made of gold.”

“That’s fine. It’s yellow flowers, not the actual color or gold.”

“Alright. That makes sense. I’m sorry to have worried you. Now I know why Frederik was so worried when that gnome gave him those yellow roses.”

“Perfectly alright. Things mean different things everywhere,” Frederik said.

“I’m glad you’re open minded. And um…sorry for the room.” The room was quite elegant.
It was fit for royalty. “Yeah. This is a palace now.”
“At least there’s a TV,” she added.

“Impressive,” Frederik said as the couple looked around their temporary quarters.

“Thank you.” She covered her mouth to hold back a yawn. “I’m sorry but I’m a bit tired now. I’ve been trying to get a lot of my work done, so I can at least try to focus on getting my own wedding ready.”

“It’s perfectly alright,” Natalia said. “I’m a bit tired myself.”

“Jet lag?”

She nodded.

“It’s understandable. You could say we pilots are quite resistant to jet lag.” She laughed a bit.

“Eh, maybe. I’m not sure you really ever get used to it.” Stu said, nudging Cecilia.

OOC: Collab post between me and Southern Yugoslavia. This is still September by the way.

Cecilia smiled. “Yeah. I guess. Well, I guess I’m going to take a nap now. Stu, you’re welcome to join me. I’ve been run ragged by trying to do a lot of stuff. Wedding preparations, meetings with military brass, politics, charity events.” She sighed. “I feel like could just…Fall…asleep…right…now–” Cecilia began to wobble a bit.

Stu took hold of her arm to prevent her from falling over.

“So…tired…Help me to my room…please…I’m sorry…Frederik…Natalia. I’m just so tired. I haven’t gotten a lot of sleep lately.”

Frederik and Natalia smiled and excused themselves to their room. Stu helped Cecilia to her room.

She continued to wobble a bit, dragging her feet every now and then. “Ugh…I’m sorry about my sister kissing you. You did turn red in the face though,” she said with a slight smile.

Stu chuckled. “It was certainly unexpected.”

“Yeah it was…Still, don’t worry. She probably only did it to get a rise out of us both, which she succeeded. Anyhow, how is your brother doing?”

“He’s still doing good. Still up near the front.”

“Will he be able to attend the wedding?”

Stu nodded. “He should be able to.”

“Ah. That’s good. Erik and his girlfriend will be attending as well.” Cecilia then asked, “Help me out of this uniform, please?”

Stu assisted Cecilia out of her uniform.

She suddenly fell over onto her bed, softly snoring.

Stu smiled and laid down in the bed next to her, and dozed off.

The next day, Cecilia was dressed in civilian attire. “Ah, home sweet home!” Kieounava was a beautiful city. In fact, it seemed that the entire city was getting ready for Cecilia and Stu’s wedding.

Stu looked around the impressive city as he walked next to Cecilia, his parents close behind.

A couple of Excaliburs flew overhead. “Ah. Those are the new Excaliburs. I designed them myself actually,” Cecilia told Stu’s parents.

“Impressive,” Frederik said as they looked up.

Cecilia smiled. “So, what do you think? It’s not as big as Kitsuniva, but it’s still home.” Cecilia gave them a short tour. “And that is the Kieounavian Fashion Academy,” she pointed out. “And there is the statue of the City Matrons.” Two statues of angelic lobo and vulpine holding up a stylized sun was surrounded by blue roses. “The city back in 1910 held a contest with the winner’s sculpture being selected. And well there it is.” “I wanted to stop by my favorite hangout before I take you to where my parents…used to live. It is now registered as being the private residence of my family. It’s a nice place…you know to get away from the stress of being a world leader.”

Stu nodded as he and his parents looked at the statue. “It’s beautiful,” Natalia said.

“Thanks. Ah there it is!” A small cafe was just a few blocks away. Cecilia had a sneaky grin on her face as she led Stu and his parents to a table.
Southern Yugoslavia says (1:46 AM)
Stu pulled out a seat for Cecilia while Frederik did the same for Natalia. They both took their seats after Cecilia and Natalia took their’s.

A waiter came by and handed them their menus. The menus were only in French. This brought a chuckle from Cecilia as she covered her mouth as Stu and his parents tried to make sense of the menus.

“I’ll still never understand why you Vulshainians use so many different languages instead of one national one,” Frederik said as he flipped through the pages of the menu.

“Oh Lobonese and Unonian are the two national and official languages of Vulshain, but French and Russian are considered co-official languages, or secondary languages. Most everyone speaks Lobonese and Unonian, but French and Russian are spoken as well,” Cecilia said.

“Of course we Vulshainians are skilled linguists, so it makes sense to know a few foreign languages,” she said. “Now, would you like me to order for all of us?”

“Sure, but I still think it’d be easier for everything to be printed in one language,” Frederik replied.

Cecilia smiled.

“Je voudrais commander deux baguettes, frites et le poulet, avec du thé à base de plantes s’il vous plaît,” she told the waiter.

“Ce sera fait, madame,” he replied. He took their menus and left. A few minutes later he brought some herbal tea for them as well as two already cut baguettes on a bread board. “Je vous remercie, monsieur.”

“Pas de problème, le premier ministre. Vos repas devrait être prêt en quelques minutes.” He then left to attend to another customer.
“See,” she teased Stu, “knowing French has its advantages. Of course that’s why you got me around.”

“Only if you’ve got a desire to visit France,” Stu teased back.

She smiled as she took the small saucers and placed some of the baguettes on them. She then proceeded to dip a small piece of the baguette into her tea before eating it.

Stu, Natalia and Frederik watched Cecilia nonchalantly as they took a bit of bread for themselves, placing a bit of butter on the slices of bread.

“So, Stu, is Zak going to be able to make it to the wedding, what with his reelection campaign going on and all?”

Stu nodded. “Everything should be in order for him to come out.” He took a sip of his tea.

"Well, the Yelizaveta and Konstantin Parties are expected to gain many seats in the Royal Congress this year. I do expect both the Iziaslav and Green Parties to win some seats as well. Cecilia said as she took a sip of her tea.

“Interesting,” Frederik said. “What party are you a part of?”

“Well, technically, the Premier of Vulshain is supposed to be above party politics, but back before I became Premier, I favored the Yelizaveta party, although I did vote for the Konstantin Party. Mostly I voted for whoever I thought would do the best job.”

He nodded. “Makes sense.”

Their food soon arrived. It consisted of golden brown crispy chicken strips with deep-fried PAX FRUITS.

“Looks good,” Stu said as he took a drink of his tea.

Cecilia smiled. “So, Natalia, Frederik? How do you like Vulshain so far?”

“It’s pretty nice,” Natalia replied as Frederik nodded in agreement.

“Thank you. After here, we’ll head on other to my parents’ house. I’ll introduce you to the rest of my family.”

Cecilia was having a hard time keeping her tail from wagging about.

“Sounds like a plan,” Frederik said as he said a short prayer, and began eating.

Cecilia grinned. “So, Stu, did you want to include anything special in our wedding,” she asked before eating.

“What do you mean,” Stu asked.

“Well, I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes now, so is there anything that I should avoid having in our wedding, besides the yellow flowers of course.”

“Well, you should try to keep flowers in odd numbers, but I don’t think anyone would actually go around and count them all. Um… I really think that’s about it.”

“Okay,” she said. “And of course, you can’t see my wedding dress now,” she said with a wink.

“That is tradition,” Stu replied with a smile.

She kissed him on the cheek. “You know I’m looking forward to meeting your brother Stu. I bet he has asked about me in his letters home.”

“Yeah, a little in the couple letters every month or so. It’s pretty rough in the capital.”

“Ah. The same reports have come in as well from our troops. While we have captured a good bit of the capital, there is still some resistance from the remaining Rygardi soldiers there. The East Malaysians have helped out, but they are also trying to make sure that their stolen tech is retrieved.”

She shrugged. “Of course, we have to turn over anything of their tech we find. Of course, a few pieces might have gotten lost due to clerical errors, but you didn’t hear that from me.”

Stu chuckled. “I haven’t even heard word if we found any of their tech.”

She chuckled as well.

Stu continued eating as he dipped some of the chicken in ranch like his parents.

Cecilia wrinkled her nose at the ranch. But she choose not to say anything.

She continued to eat. “When does your brother get to come home?”

“He told us in the last letter he’s not leaving until our flag’s above the capital. Sense of duty and what not.”

“Ah. Well, that might be a problem. From what we have learned, Archibald Rivers’ Presidential Palace is built like a fortress. Bullet-proof and shatter proof glass windows, reinforced walls, you get the idea. The place is built to withstand anything you throw at it. Of course, we think our siege tanks might have enough firepower in siege mode to blast it open.”
“All they need is a clear path to get into position before literally knocking down the door.”

Stu nodded. “Of course, a nice big few thousand pound bomb might do the trick.”

“We want to capture him alive love, not turn him into a martyr.”

“We wouldn’t mind using a broom and dustpan to pull him out,” Frederik interrupted.

Cecilia shrugged. “Normally, I would just tell our troops to blow him up along with his palace, but I can’t have other nations criticizing us for doing that.”

“They’d rather us execute him after a trial by his people, right?”

“Pretty much. I think they will have a fair trial, since his own people are sick of him,” she replied.

“It wouldn’t be very fair if they all hate him, since he’d have no chance of not being sent to the gallows.”

“Of course, if he kills himself, taking the coward’s way out, then it helps the taxpayers then.”

“Or you know, a few thousand pound bomb that would be dropped somewhere anyway,” Stu said with a grin.

“Okay now. We get it Stu,” Cecilia wanted to change the subject to something else.

Stu and his parents continued eating.

Cecilia ate as well. “You know, I can’t wait for the wedding.” She kissed Stu on the cheek. “It’s about the only thing that’s kept me sane through all of those meetings with politicians and the brass.”

Stu smiled as he returned the kiss. “I know, I’m pretty excited too.”

She giggled a bit.

They soon finished eating. Cecilia paid the bill and left a good tip for their waiter.

OOC: Collab post between me and SY.

Cecilia then introduced them to her parents’ house. “Here we are, my parents’ house.” It was a three story house. The lawn was well done, and there were some flowers too. “It’s not much, but let’s go on in.” She led them into the house. She showed them around. The living room and kitchen were well kept and clean.

“It’s beautiful,” Natalia said as they looked around.

“Thank you,” she said. She led Stu’s parents to her parents’ room. “Here you two will be staying my parents’ room.” There were pictures of Cecilia’s parents in the room. They were very happy together. There were also pictures of parents with their children.

Frederik and Natalia set their luggage down by the door. The two looked at the various pictures around the room. “Looks like they really loved you guys,” Frederik said as he looked at a family picture.

“They truly did. I miss them greatly. They would be so happy to see me getting married.”

Natalia nodded as she continued taking a look at the pictures. “Yes, they would have.”

Cecilia wiped her eye. “Sorry I got a bit of dust in my eye.”

Stu wrapped his arm around Cecilia and squeezed her lightly.

She smiled a bit. “Now, for the big surprise.” She went over and pull a lever, that caused a wooden staircase to fall out of the ceiling. “And upstairs is my room! Where Stu and I will be staying.”

They went upstairs. they were sketchings of fashion designs on the walls, as well as some model planes on a shelf. When she opened the window, you could see a great view of the city.

“Wow, it’s impressive,” Stu looked around the room and examined her drawings.

She blushed and twisted her tail a bit. “Oh thank you.” She smiled. “My sisters will arrive soon now. Including Anna. You know the one.” She reminded Stu what Anna did to Stu when they first met.

Stu chuckled a bit. “Yeah, I do. A bit too well.”

“You’re not mad at her for doing that are you?”

Stu shook his head. “No, not really. I was more surprised than angry.”

“I see,” Cecilia smiled. Then they heard someone call Cecilia’s name. “Oh that’s must be them.” They went down and met the rest of Cecilia’s family. “This is Taisyia, my younger sister.”

“Hello,” Taisyia said.

“And this is Anna, who you already met.”

“Hello, Stu. Mind if I join in…”

“Hush Anna! Behave yourself,” a vixen who looked good bit like Cecilia said.
Anna rolled her eyes and shrugged. “And this is Natalka, my sororal twin sister.”

“Hello,” she said.
“Hello,” Stu said as he, Frederik and Natalia shook their hands.

“Well, Sam will be here tonight. He’s wrapping up some things back in the capital. What with elections coming up, and all,” Natalka said.

Taisyia nodded. “So, how are you liking our hometown,” she asked.

“It’s a nice town,” Stu said. “I think we’ll enjoy ourselves here.”

All Rainard sisters smiled. "We’ll head to the church after all of you settle in and rested a bit.
Cecilia hugged Stu’s arm.

“Sounds like a plan,” Frederik said.

“Alright. Well, you can kick off your shoes and rest for a bit,” Anna said, smiling. “You probably had a long trip.”

Frederik and Natalia smiled as they took a seat.

"Stu and I will be right back. I have to show him something outside in the back.

She led Stu to the back. They walked towards two tombstones in a flower-filled meadow surrounded by oak and jaku trees not far from the family’s home. This was the same meadow that her father had asked her mother’s hand in marriage. The swing was still there, hanging from a strong oak tree. A small arch, decorated with reliefs of evergreens, palm leaves, and doves, loomed over the headstones. Cecilia knelt by the headstones. On them were written:

KIRIN RAINARD

LOVING FATHER AND FAITHFUL HUSBAND

YOUR LOVE WAS OUR GREATEST STRENGTH

IT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN, FOR IT STILL REMAINS WITH US

BORN 1956

ENTERED HEAVEN 2004

VIKKI OLEKALEXEIN RAINARD

LOVING MOTHER AND DEVOTED WIFE

YOUR CARING HEART WAS FILLED WITH LOVE FOR YOUR FAMILY

YOUR LOVE IS STILL WITH US FOREVER, ALWAYS

BORN 1958

ENTERED HEAVEN 2004

Cecilia tried to open her mouth to say something but she couldn’t she tried to get up, but she just collapsed onto the ground, the tears running down her cheeks. She was getting married so why was she so sad.

Stu knelt down beside her and put his arm around her.

She looked up at him and just embraced him. Her tears fell from face and stained his shirt.

Stu held her tightly, not saying a word.

“I should be happy…but…Oh Den Mother…Why did they have to leave me? Why did they have to be taken from me? I wanted them here to see me get married. I wanted them to see their grandchildren. It…It isn’t fair.”

Stu stroked Cecilia’s back and hugged her tightly.

Cecilia said, “Thank you Stu. I’m so glad to have met you. I…I…” She couldn’t find the words to finish.

Stu smiled and lightly kissed her cheek. “I’m glad I met you too.”

She smiled as she nuzzled his cheek. “Help me up. My legs feel like jelly.”

Stu helped up Cecilia and helped her back inside.

Her legs indeed felt like jelly. She looked behind her shoulder as they went inside. She thought she saw her parents standing there, smiling back at. Their faces told her how proud and happy they were of her. She smiled back. No words were needed. Just the feelings.

Cecilia rested her head on Stu’s shoulder as she asked him to help her to another sofa to lay down on.

Stu helped her over to the sofa and took a seat next to her.

She rest her head in his lap as she stared up.

The trip to the church didn’t take that long. “Here is where the wedding will be,” Cecilia said. “The Church of the Earth. It was built in the 1800s.” The church was quite big and had a usual Laiatanese feel to it. Still there were many stained glass windows depicting scenes from Odin’s life.

“It’s simple, but it has a certain charm to it,” Taisyia said.

Stu looked up and examined the stained glass portraits of the savior of the Lobo people. “These stainings are quite impressive,” Frederik said as he walked with them.

“I’m glad you like it,” Cecilia said. They went inside to see everything was getting set.

The three looked around the interior of the church, watching as employees set up the church for the wedding.

“Impressive yes,” Cecilia said. There were several employees working. They were busy replacing the yellow roses with blue and red ones.

“I made sure to have them replace the yellow roses,” she said.

Stu nodded. “It’s looking good. Everything’s coming together.”

“Indeed it is,” Cecilia said as she hugged his arm.
Southern Yugoslavia says (1:47 AM)

They continued walking around the church and looking over the preparations.

There were replicas of both the Rainard and the Riskotov family coats of arms on several walls.

Frederik and Natalia walked over to one of the copies of their family coat of arms while Stu and Cecilia continued closer to the altar.

“In a few days, we are going to take our oaths right here,” Cecilia said as she smiled.

Stu smiled as well and hugged her with the arm he had around her.

“So, will you two be saying your own vows,” Anna asked.

Stu nodded. “I plan on it.”

“Same here,” Cecilia answered.

Taisyia looked at them both. “Well, have you two decided on your honeymoon yet?”

“I’m not all too sure what exactly we’ll be doing yet.”

“Same here,” Cecilia replied. “What to take a look around at the reception area?”

“Sure,” Stu replied with a smile.

They went to the reception area.

Tables were being set up and blue roses were being placed on them.

“Looking good,” Natalka asked.

Stu nodded in agreement. “It is.”

Cecilia grinned. “I’m glad. I was worried that nothing would be to your liking, love.”

Stu returned the smile. “I do. This looks really nice.”

“Thank you.” She kissed him.

Stu returned the kiss.

“Okay you two, settle down now,” Natalka said.

Cecilia laughed a bit. “I guess some people are jealous of us,” she teased Stu.

Stu chuckled a bit. “I guess so,” he said. The others laughed a bit as well.

“It seems things are going good with the preparations,” Natalia said.

“Indeed. We sent several invitations out already, but I will need yours and Frederik’s help in making sure I don’t forget any of your relatives,” Cecilia said.

Both of Stu’s parents nodded.

The next day…

Cecilia was overjoyed. “You seem excited today,” Stu said as he smiled at his future wife.

“Of course, Erik is coming home,” she replied.

“Where has he been,” Natalia ask as she waited for the youngest Rainard sibling to arrive.

“Oh, he was competing in an international sporting competition. He won a silver medal,” Sam answered. He had been able to get enough things done so he could come back to his hometown and help with the wedding preparations. It was nice to be back home.

“What event was he in,” Frederik asked.

“Men’s 50m swimming,” Sam replied.

“Erik’s bringing his girlfriend, too,” Anna stated.

“Erik and Coline are doing what they can, what with Coline being pregnant. Not to mention, Erik proposed to her,” Cecilia added. “Oh! There they are!” A taxi drove up near the house. Erik helped Coline out of the taxi. He then brought their bags and suitcases out. “Hi, guys,” Erik said as he approached the house as the taxi drove off. When he saw Stu, Natalia, and Frederik, he smiled. “Um…Hi. I’m Erik, you must be Stu and his parents.”

“Nice to meet you Erik,” Stu said as he shook his hand. Natalia and Frederik shook his hand as well. “This is my girlfriend, Coline Konstancja.”

“Nice to meet all of you,” she said. Natalia noticed her Den Materi Cross pendant.

“Are you a Den Detyeĭ,” she asked.

Coline nodded. “I am,” she answered.

Erik wrapped his arm around her waist. “We are working things out since I’m a Vayan Catholic, and she being a Den Detyeĭ. But, we going to make it work,” he said.

Stu and Sam helped Erik with the luggage taking them to a spare bedroom.

Cecilia hugged her little brother. “I’m so glad you were able to make it Erik.”

Erik hugged her back. “I’m glad to, Cecilia. We’re not sure when we will have to return to Blubay. The Water World Championships were put on hold due to weather conditions,” he told her.

“Where is Blubay,” Frederik asked.

“It’s located in the nation of Civil Citizenry,” Erik answered.

“Never heard of the nation before,” Stu’s father said.

“Yeah, well, that’s one thing I love about competing in international sports events: you get to see the world,” Erik smiled.

Frederik laughed. “That is true,” he said. “So, when do you and Coline plan on getting married?”

Erik rubbed the back of his neck. “Not sure really. I mean we haven’t decided on whether to wait till after the baby or just go ahead.”

“Will your parents be coming to the wedding,” Taisyia asked Coline.

“They are. They were quite surprised when I told them that I was pregnant and that Erik was the father, but they are happy for us. So, Cecilia how much longer till the wedding?”

“Not long now. We are still waiting for Stu’s younger brother, Mikhail, to arrive.”

“Let’s go inside and eat,” Anna said. “It’s almost lunch time. I think Cecilia, Natalka, and Natalia are cooking.”

(OOC: This is a collab post between myself and Vulshain.)

Cecilia and Natalka started getting some stuff out of the cabinets. “Natalia, would you like to help? We’re making chicken pot pie,” Natalka said.

Natalia walked over to the kitchen and began washing her hands. “Sure, I’ll help.” She dried off her hands and stood next to Cecilia. “What do you need me to do?”

Cecilia began telling her what to do, while Natalka got out the glass container. They started getting the vegetables and bread ready while Natalia started getting the chicken ready.

Stu took a seat in the living room with Frederik, Eric and Coline. “So, how long have you two known each other,”" the graying lobo asked as he reclined in the chair.

“Well, we met on an instant messenger a while back,” Erik said.
“I was at the 2011 Sixth Winter Olympics, relaxing a bit when we met online,” Coline said.

Frederik nodded as he listened to their story. Stu was half listening, checking his phone.

“Our relationship…had its ups and downs,” Erik said. “It was a bit difficult especially because of our different religions. It’s…been interesting.”

Frederik nodded. “I’m sure it was.” Stu slid his phone back into his pocket. “Everything alright,” Frederik asked. Stu nodded. “The government approved my and Cecilia’s applications for dual citizenship.”

Sam smiled. “That’s great to hear. The law doesn’t prohibit the Vulshainian Premier from having dual citizenship. And I don’t see any problems with my government approving it. Of course, a couple of nobles are wondering if you’ll be getting a title of nobility.”

“As long as the government of Laiatan doesn’t award it, it’ll be perfectly legal and recognized in Laiatan. It won’t get any perks, but the country recognizes it.” Frederik rolled his eyes a bit, but remained silent.

Sam raised an eyebrow. “I take it you don’t want Stu to gain any sort of nobility.”

“Not necessarily that, but just the idea that what family you’re from determines if you become a ruler is ridiculous to me.”

Sam shrugged. “Anyhow, any word from your brother, Stu?”

Stu shook his head. “Not yet. Reports show his unit several blocks from the capital building.”

“That is good. We have reports that our siege tanks and Goliaths are fast approaching the capital building as well. Between our forces, we should be able to take the Rygardi Presidential Palace.”

Stu nodded. “Then it’ll finally be over.”

Sam nodded. “Then starts the next part: rebuilding Rygard. I still have to figure out how we are going to do a Vulshainian Commonwealth. It would give the Rygardi their independence, but it would somewhat satisfy those in Rygard who want us to annex them.”

“I’m not sure how happy Laiatan’s going to be about it. They’re strongly for a total independent Rygard.”

“Well, that’s going to be a problem then. The Rygardi want to be annexed by Vulshain and we don’t want to annex them.”

“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there, then,” Stu said.

Sam nodded. “So, Stu, Cecilia mentioned that Laiatan was working on some new armor suits for your soldiers? Are they anything like our suits?”

Stu shook his head. “They’re more of a body suit with helmets similar to what they wear today, only with a HUD.”

Sam nodded again. “A bit different from our own I guess. So, Stu, what did you do during your bachelor party?”

“Nothing too exciting. Went out with a few friends, saw the last airshow of the year for the Devil Dogs.”

“Anything else,” Anna asked. She grinned.

Stu shook his head, knowing exactly what she was asking.

She sighed. “You’re no fun, Stu. You’re prefect for Cecilia.”

Stu chuckled a bit, deciding to keep the later bits of the night to himself.

Anna suspected something. “Seriously, you didn’t do anything…naughty?”

Stu shook his head again, keeping his bearing. “Nope.”

Anna sighed. “Drat. You’re just like Cecilia. I tried to drag her to a strip club, but she would have none of it. We went to a karaoke sushi bar, and saw a movie, and ate until we almost popped. I can’t believe Cecilia had 10 jello shots in a row. Of course, she had one hell of a hangover the next day.”

Stu laughed a bit. “At least you had some fun.”

“Yeah we did,” Anna said. Sam grinned.
“So, Stu, are you ready for the wedding,” Sam asked.

He nodded. “Yeah, actually. Pretty excited for it.” He smiled.

“Nervous,” Erik asked.

“Just a little. Typical jitters.”

“That is typical, I guess,” Sam said. “So, any word from Zak on whether he can come to the wedding?”

Stu nodded. “As far as I know, he can come.”

“That’s good. How is his election coming along?”

“Shows he’s still on top. Supposed to be a landslide.”

“Okay. So, no chance of a upset huh?”

Stu shook his head.

“Well that’s good to hear. Anyhow, are there any special conditions for you have to agree to in order to be granted dual-citizenship?”

“Dual-citizenship is usually reserved for married couples of Laiatan and another country, or for a child born to a Laiatanese parent.”

“Okay. So, are there any in your government who are strongly against you marrying my sister?”

Stu shrugged. “Well, if there are they aren’t vocal about it.”

“Any you suspect,” Taisyia asked.

“Not a clue. I’m lucky I know the representatives in the Narodnoe from Volkgoroda.”

Sam smiled. “So, how are you two going to be living with one another after you’re married,” Anna asked.

“We’ll probably live in Kitsuniva until Cecilia decides she doesn’t want to be Premier anymore. Then I was hoping we might move back over to Laiatan.” He looked over at Cecilia.

“I don’t think she’ll step down anytime soon,” Sam said. “The Confederate Premier is usually a life-long position.”

“Well, it’s an option if she decides to.”

“True. I’ll try and see what I can do in setting up an office for you in Kitsuniva,” Sam said. “And don’t worry, I’ll make sure to talk Zak about it as well.”

Stu nodded. “I’m sure we’ll be able to work something out with the military.”

“And I talk with Zak about setting up an office for Cecilia as well,” Sam added. “In case, you get homesick. Knowing Cecilia, she would figure you would want to go back home once in a while. Hopefully we can get the high-speed railway set up between our countries. Bullet trains are fast, reliable, and safe. Ever ridden on one,” Sam asked.

Stu nodded. “I’ve ridden a few heading from Volkgoroda out to the coast a few times.”

“Well, they are safe and fast, so we used them quite extensively here in Vulshain.”
“So, have you two had your first fight yet,” Anna asked.

“Wouldn’t say fights, maybe an argument or two.”

“Oh about what?”

Stu shrugged a bit. “If you don’t mind, we usually keep things like that between the family in Laiatan.” He smiled a bit.

Taisyia nudged her older sister. Anna smirked. Sam changed the subject. “So, Stu, I’m trying to work out a deal with the Laiatanese military liasion about sending some of our Goliath mechs to your military, sort of a friendly gesture. He’s not too thrilled about the idea of having the Laiatanese military being equipped with mechs.” Sam laughed a bit. “He’s not even keen on the idea of having any mechs to be honest.”

Stu nodded. “Well, he’s the link between the government and military of Laiatan. Even though he feels that way too, he’s showing the interests of the military and government.”

“How about you? Would you feel the same way,” Erik asked.

Stu nodded a bit. “Not a big fan of them myself. Too big of targets and too expensive.”

“Hm…I have to admit that you got me there. Now, he likes our siege tanks though. Says that your military could benefit from them. The ability to have tanks that can greatly strengthen an area’s defenses or blow it to kingdom come is greatly beneficial.”

Stu nodded. “Well, that’s up to the government.”

“Yep. So, what do you think of the wedding preparations so far,” Sam asked.

“I’m liking them. I think it’s going to be great.”

“Same here,” Sam said.

Cecilia asked Natalia, “So, how are things back home? Everyone in your hometown must be talking up a storm about me and Stu getting married.”

“The people in the neighborhood are, at least. I’m not too sure about the rest of the town.” Natalia said as she helped prepare the food.

“Why do you say that,” Cecilia asked.

“I don’t know everyone in town,” Natalia said laughing.

Cecilia smiled. “So, how long did you and Frederik know each other before getting married,” Natalka asked.

“Oh, a few years. We started dating after that, and dated for about three years.”

“Stu and I had been dating not that long,” Cecilia replied.

She nodded. “I know. Most marriages in Laiatan begin after a year or more of dating.”

“Well, you must have been surprised when Stu told you both that he and I were getting married,” Cecilia said.

She nodded. “I was expecting you two to be together a bit longer.”

“Well, what can I say, love sometimes knows when it’s best to get married,” Cecilia said.

She nodded in agreement.

Cecilia smiled. “I must admit that I didn’t realize that yellow flowers weren’t really good for a wedding. I didn’t mean make you, Frederick, and Stu uncomfortable.”

“It’s quite alright. I understand there’s cultural differences”

“Indeed. But I probably should have asked to make sure,” Cecilia added.

Natalia nodded. “At least we caught it before it caused a bigger problem.”

“That’s true,” Cecilia laughed a bit. “But well…so, what do you think of Erik?”

“He’s a nice boy,” Natalia said.

“Thank you. He and Coline are working things out, and they hit a few bumps, but I think they will be just fine,” Cecilia said as she checked the food.

“That’s understandable. Glad they’re working out their problems.”

She nodded. “Food’s almost ready. Natalka is the pie ready?”
“Yep,” Natalka said as she checked the blueberry apple pie.
“So, Natalia, how many of your relatives are coming to the wedding?”

“We’re not sure exactly yet, but probably twenty to thirty.”

Both sisters smiled. The timers then dinged. “Ah, food’s ready,” Cecilia ready.

Cecilia and Natalka called the others to eat. “Cecilia, Natalka did you make your chicken-pot-pie,” Anna asked grinning. Her sisters grinned back.

Stu and Frederik headed into the kitchen with Erik and Coline, and stood near the table.

“So, Stu, have you shared any family recipes with my sister yet,” Sam asked.

Stu shook his head. “Not yet. Mom won’t share them until we’re actually married.” He laughed a bit as he looked over at Natalia.

Cecilia chuckled a bit as well.

“Let’s eat, I’m starved,” Frederik said as he pulled a chair out for Natalia.

Cecilia pulled a chair out for Stu.

Stu smiled a bit, and offered the seat to Cecilia.

She thanked Stu and sat down. Coline sat down in the chair that Erik offered to her. Soon everyone was sitting down.

“Let’s start eating,” Anna said.

Stu nodded as he took Cecilia’s hand, and offered it to his neighbor as Frederik and Natalia did the same.

Soon everyone was holding hands.

Frederik said a quick prayer. It was followed by an “amen”, and everyone prepared to begin eating.

Cecilia passed the chicken pot pie to Frederik.

“So, Frederik, what are you and Natalia going to do after the wedding,” Sam asked.

Frederik took a bit and continued passing it along. “Well, we’ll probably head home. Enjoy retirement a bit more.” Natalia took a bit of the pot pie and passed it. She nodded in agreement. “Maybe we’ll go to a national park. We’ve never seen Vysoki Mountain.”

“That’s good to hear. Maybe you could take Cecilia and Stu with you,” Anna suggested.

“If they want to,” she replied as she looked to Stu.

He nodded. “I don’t see why we couldn’t.” He looked to Cecilia.

“The same here. I would love to see Vysoki Mountain,” she replied.

“Well then, whenever we go we’ll let you know,” Frederik said as he began eating.

“Thank you,” Cecilia said as she began eating as well.

Stu began eating as well. “This is pretty good.”

“Thank you,” Natalia, Cecilia, and Natalka said at once.

He chuckled a bit, not expecting all three to reply. “So, what’ve you guys been up to,” he asked, directing it towards Anna and Natalka.

“Oh meetings, paperwork, dealing with politicians,” Natalka said. Anna nodded.

“Sounds like a lot of fun,” Stu said.

“There are some good days,” Anna added. “You get to meet interesting people…from time to time.”

Stu nodded as he kept eating. “Anything fun?”

“Hm…Well, you get to see a lot of new military prototypes being made, which is fun.”

Anna nodded in agreement to Natalka’s statement.

Stu nodded as he went back to his meal.

“So Stu, what’s it like being the head of the Republican Guard,” Erik asked.

“It’s pretty interesting. It was kind of weird going from behind a rifle to behind a desk. But, I got my own office in one of the most secure buildings in Laiatan. Overall, it’s not too bad. A bit of paperwork every once in a while,” Stu replied.

“Well, we’ll get your own office here in Vulshain too,” Sam said.

Stu nodded. “That should be fine, just remember to get it cleared with the government. Formalities, of course.”

“Of course,” Cecilia said. “You get to decide what the office looks like of course.”

Stu nodded. “Great!” He continued eating. “So, Erik. Are you in college,” Natalia asked.

“Hoping to start soon actually,” he answered.

“Know where you’re going,” she asked.

“Not sure to be honest,” he said.

“Any ideas?”

“Not really. I got a few, but nothing really specific in mind.”

“That’s good,” Stu said. “Any ideas on your major?”

“I actually was thinking about history or music.”

“Interesting choices,” Stu replied. “Know what you want to do after college?”

“I thought about the military. Family tradition and all.”

Coline had a bit of worry on her face. “But I’m not sure.”

Stu nodded. “Don’t feel like you have to. You’ve got to be prepared to die for your country when you join up.”

“I know. But…what with Coline pregnant and all…” He stopped talking for a bit as Coline put a hand on his shoulder.

He nodded as he continued eating.

“So, Stu, what do you plan on doing if Cecilia doesn’t want to step down,” Taisyia asked.

Stu shrugged. “Figure it out when we cross that bridge.”

Cecilia nodded in agreement. “I know one thing: if our children were anything like us, Stu is going to hiding his tail a lot.” The Rainard children laughed a good bit.

Stu, Frederik and Natalia laughed a bit as well.

Our children will be nipping at Stu’s tail a good bit," Sam added.

Stu chuckled a bit.

“Well, your children will look very beautiful,” Coline said.

“Thank you,” Stu replied.

“You’re welcome,” she said.

Vekaiyun Premier Ikrisia Levinile and Li Sipavu Commodore Salvatoro Iyayuspi arrived with a pair of guards at The Church of the Earth. Neither occupant stirred; they were fairly unmoved by the particular outpouring of opulence that lay beyond the glass of their limousine.

The gaunt sipavu commodore, who had been appointed head of the Vekaiyun Navy after a series of ultra conservative standoffs by the previous commodore. He knew the Premier was not about to let another impotent commander at the helm of one of her toys; on the contrary, he was expected to perform and he had the resume to boot. The middle-aged vulpine was more than capable of holding his ground, and assumed after the summer conference in Skendia, that no other navy had the fortitude nor the stomach for any sort of display of force. Indeed, the seas were Vekaiyu’s to patrol.

As he reached for the door handle, something stopped him.

“Hold,” Ikrisia said as she gripped his black sleeve with blue trim. She watched as the door suddenly opened. “When you travel, others open the door for you. It is for your protection.”

“We’re not in Listonia, are we?” he joked.

“Much worse,” she whispered. “Here is a land where the royal family is allowed to do what it wants without consequence.”

He smirked. “Ah yes.”

“Now please,” she said with a half-smile. “Be jovial. Enjoy.”

Iyayuspi would rather go over ship maneuvers than ‘let loose’. But he didn’t get where he was in the Vekaiyun navy without knowing how to impress. “Naturally,” he replied, beaming a warm smile, the skin stretching over his face like wet canvas, hidden from view by the red, white, and black fur.

OOC: Collab post between myself and Vulshain.

Soon, the guests were arriving and both the Royal Protectors and the CPGs were out in force, along with the police, since the Vulshainian premier was marrying a high-ranking member of the Laiatanese military. People from all over had come to see Premier Cecilia Rainard marry Commondore Stewart Riskotov of Laiatan. The Church of the Earth was greatly decorated for the special occasion.

A motorcade consisting of three vehicles, two black SUVs and a black limousine flying a Laiatan national flag and the Presidential flag, rolled to a stop outside the Church of the Earth. Several FSO agents exited the black SUVs, and opened up the door of the limousine. President Zakhari Kreskov and First Lady Tanya stepped out of the limousine, and walked into the Church waving to the crowd surrounded by the FSO agents.

The Queen Dowager slightly bowed to the President. “Greetings Mr. President. I see you are well. How goes your elections?”

Zak slightly bowed back in response. “Everything’s going well. We’re not expecting anything short of a total victory.”

“That is good. I pray that the Den Mother continues to shine on you and your family.” The Queen Dowager was dressed in a white kimsari and wore a white headdress. “So, where is my soon-to-be grandson?”

Zak shrugged a bit as he placed his arm around Tanya. “I’m not sure, I spoke to him earlier. He’s probably getting ready to show up.”

“I hope he isn’t nervous,” the Queen Dowager said with a smirk.

Zak chuckled a bit. “I know I was.” Tanya smiled as she placed her arm around his waist.

The Queen Dowager nodded. “I know the feeling as well. Let’s go sit down.” The Queen Dowager led them to their seats which was two rows from the Vekaiyuns.

Zak took a seat next Tanya and looked over towards the Vekaiyuns, then turned his attention back to Tanya as they began a side conversation with her.

Another black SUV stopped out front of the Church. Stu and several other lobos, including his brother Mikhail, exited the SUV and headed into the church, waving to the crowd.

Stu walked into the Church with the rest of the group, talking amongst themselves.

The Queen Dowager smiled at Stu. “Greetings, Commandant. It is nice to see you again.”

Stu smiled back. “It’s nice to see you again too.” He turned and motioned towards the group. “This is my brother, Mikhail, and the groomsmen, Sergei, Dimitri, Leonid, and Yermolai.”

“It is an honor to meet you all as well. I am Queen Dowager Anatansya Olekalexein, grandmother to the bride.”
She slightly bowed to them.

They bowed in return. “It’s nice to meet you as well,” Sergei replied on behalf of the group.

“So, how do you know Stu then?”

“We served with the Commandant in several areas of operation in the early 2000s. We’ve been friends since,” Leonid replied.

She nodded. “You must be honored to be the groomsmen for the Commandant then.”

The four men nodded in response with a smile.

“That is good then. Are you nervous, Commandant?”

Stu shrugged. "A little, but not too much.”

The Queen Dowager smiled. “Then there must be another reason why your tail is wagging so much.”

Stu smiled a bit too. “So, how’s Cecilia?”

“She is doing good. Just getting ready with some last minute things,” the Queen Dowager said.

“Good,” he replied with a smile. “I guess we should go ahead and take our places, then.”

The Queen Dowager nodded and sat back down with the Laiatanese President and his wife.

Stu, his brother and groomsmen took their places at the front of the Church, waiting.

Meanwhile…
“ARGH! WEAR IS IT!” Cecilia was desperately trying to find her earrings, and she wasn’t quite ready yet.
*WHERE
After finding the earring and getting her dress, her sisters who were her bridesmaid with Natalka being the maid of honor were finally ready to go. “About time, what was going on in there,” Sam asked, while wearing his red cavalry uniform, the same one he wore when he had entertained Zak during the Christmas State Visit.
“Cecilia had last minute wedding jitters,” Anna said.
“Well, let’s get going now. We don’t want to be late.” They got into the black limo which was escorted by four motorcycle police officers.
The limo soon arrived at the church. Cecilia’s face was covered by her veil. She carried a bouqet of red, white, and blue roses along with a red lily. She wore a flowered vinok with long ribbons flowing in the back. Her white wedding dress was backless. She wore a blue heart-shapped sapphire surrounded by gold roses. Her vinok had blue, orange, and gold roses in it. Natalka carried the
train as Cecilia got out of the limo. Cecilia’s bridesmaids wore matching red and white dresses, designed by Cecilia herself. Natalka’s outfit was a bit different but resembled a cross between the bride’s and the bridesmaids’ dresses. The people cheered Cecilia waved at them, smiling behind her veil. Sam escorted Cecilia into the church as the organ began to play ‘Here comes the bride.’

Zak, Tanya, and Stu’s parents stood up as the song began playing. Stu smiled as he watched Cecilia walk down the aisle, Mikhail putting his hand on Stu’s shoulder with a grin.

The flower girls scattered flower petals as the bride walked down the aisle. “Mom and Dad would be so proud of you right now,” Sam whispered.
“I know,” she whispered back. “I just wish they were still here.”
“So do I. So do I,” Sam whispered. He smiled as they soon reached the altar.

Stu smiled as he took Cecilia’s hand. “You look beautiful,” he whispered to her.

“Thank you. You look good yourself,” she whispered.

Stu smiled as he turned his attention to the preacher.

The preacher then began.

OOC: Collab between me and SY.

The preacher began the ceremony. Cecilia smiled as she wagged her tail a bit as the preacher continued. Sam smiled as he watched. The Queen Dowager wiped a tear from her eye as she watched one of her grandchildren get married.

Natalia and Frederik smiled as they watched the ceremony, Zak and Tanya next to them holding hands. The preacher continued to ceremony, until it reached its final line. He looked up from the Kniga and over to Stu. “Stewart Frederikov Riskotov, do you take Cecilia Yuriy Rainard to be your lawfully wedded wife, in sickness and in health, in wealth and in poverty, in this life and the next?” Stu looked over to Cecilia and smiled, before turning back to the preacher and replied, “I do.” The preacher turned to Cecilia. “Cecilia Yuriy Rainard, do you take Stewart Frederikov Riskotov to be your lawfully wedded husband, in sickness and in health, in wealth and in poverty, and in this life and the next?”

Cecilia wagged her tail, smiling behind her veil as she looked at Stu before looking back at the preacher. Cecilia then said, “I do with all my heart.”

The preacher looked forward. “Who has the rings?” Stu’s brother Mikhail stepped forward. “I have the rings,” he replied as he removed a box containing the rings from his pocket. Opening it, two gold rings set with a combined jewel made of the couple’s birthstones in the light. He handed the gold ring meant for Cecilia to Stu, and the gold ring for Stu to Cecilia. He shut the case and placed it in
his pocket, stepping back to his place. Stu smiled as he took Cecilia’s left hand, sliding it onto her ring finger.

“With this ring, I make you my wife in the eyes of the Den Mother.”

Cecilia took the ring she had been given and put it on Stu’s finger. “With this ring, I make you my husband in the eyes of the Den Mother,” she said, smiling as she put the ring on her love’s finger.

The preacher smiled. “Then by the power vested in me by the Den Mother, Odin, and the People of Vulshain, I now pronounce you man and wife.” He shut the Kniga. “You may now kiss the bride.” Stu smiled as he turned to Cecilia and lifted her veil and kissed her.

Cecilia smiled and kissed Stu back.

Zak, Tanya and Stu’s parents began clapping.

Cecilia’s siblings, grandmother, and her friends began clapping as well.

OOC: This is a collab post between myself and Vulshain.

Cecilia smiled as she wiped away a tear from eye. “Feels like I’m in a romance novel, huh?”

smiled as he held her tightly. “Only it’s your life.”

“Still, the smooth-talker,” she replied back as she held his hand. “Come on, let’s get going. Our carriage awaits,” she added.

Stu took Cecilia’s hand as they walked down the aisle towards the door. He smiled as they exited the church, and helped Cecilia into the carriage.

Petals were tossed into the air as the couple made their way to the open-topped horse-drawn 1907 State Landau. Sam and the Queen Dowager got into the Gold Confederate Coach. Cecilia threw pieces of candy and flowers to the childern. She also waved at the people.

Stu waved to the people as he sat next to Cecilia. Inside the church, Zak, Tanya, and Stu’s parents made their way down the aisle with the FSO agents and waited inside for the small motorcade. Quickly arriving, they left the church for the reception.

Cecilia smiled as she waved. “You know, I thought about having you dress up like Korol Yuri IV. Your father thought I was serious,” she said before laughing a bit. “Let’s just say that his fur stood on end when I told him that.”

Stu laughed. “That would have made any proud Laiatanese man’s fur stand on end.”

“Your father included. He looked so pale that Anna thought she was going to have to call an ambulance,” she replied. “Besides, there was the other alternative.”

“What was that?”

“Have you dressed up like Max Venavle, the former and now deceased dictator of Vekaiyu. Now that would turn a lot of heads. Might have given Ikrisia a scare,” she said with a sly grin.

Stu grinned. “Yeah, I’d like to see you even try to get me to dress like that Vekaiyun madman.”

“Well, I could do it if I got you extremely drunk,” she grinned. “Of course, even then, it might be a problem. You seem to sober up quite quickly.”
She winked at him.

Stu chuckled as he put his arm around Cecilia.

She smiled. “I’m glad Zak could take the time off from campaigning to see us get married. I hope that doesn’t hurt his chances in the polls. Still, even if does lose, I’m sure that his successor will be just as good, although he or she would have some pretty big shoes to fill.”

Stu nodded. “I think he’ll win the second term. He’d probably win a third and fourth, if he could.”

“Well, he could always rewrite the Constitution or at least put it up for a vote in the Senate. I mean people wouldn’t see anything wrong with it since everyone loves him.”

“Sadly, it’s not that simple. The president can’t directly put in an amendment to the Constitution. Besides, he’s one of the proudest and nationalistic Lobos I’ve ever met. He’d never change the country’s supreme law to advance himself.”

“Well, if it’s for the better good he might. Oh who am I kidding. Zak would never do that in a million years. Still, I wonder what would happen if there was a major upset in the polls. Probably be the biggest surprise in your nation’s election history.”

Stu nodded. “That it would.”

“Any chance that might happened? From what I’ve heard, there are some people who are concerned about the close relationship between Laiatan and Vulshain, especially since environmentalism is starting to sway students. Our ambassador had to take dozen of angry parents’ calls before you arrived about this.”

“I doubt it would. Election fraud is very low back home.”

“Oh okay. But still, you have to admit that environmentalism is a good thing. Compared to Laiatan, Vulshain is very green. I can’t remember when the last time we had an environmental problem was. No offense now.”

“We haven’t had any major environmental problems. And besides, we’ve started moving to clean coal and nuclear power.”

“Nuclear fission or nuclear fusion?”

“Fission, if I recall correctly.”

“Oh…You’ll probably should go with fusion. Vulshain relies on fusion energy. Probably something we could add to the SITO treaty: we build fusion power plants for you in addition to solar and wind power plants.”
“Fusion is much cleaner and doesn’t have the dangers of nuclear meltdowns as fission does. Plus, it produces much more energy than fission.”

“Great as that sounds, I doubt it’d be signed for you to build them. I’m sure you’ve noticed we’re a pretty independent people.”

“I know, but still what are neighbors for? Besides, there are other ways to help you build them. We could provide support in explaining how to build and maintain them.”

Stu nodded. “That’s true, but it’s also up to the Narodnoe.” He chuckled a bit.

“I know, silly.” She chuckled a bit too. “I’m so glad you’re brother was able to come.”

Stu nodded. “Me too. It’s about time Rygard’s about over.”

“Indeed. Our siege tanks and Goliaths proved themselves out there. I now see the benefit of having a few mechs, supported by siege tanks can offer. If it was for the siege tanks, there would have been no way to break through the last lines of defense in the Rygardi capital. Not to mention the Goliaths and Heimdals also assisted your forces in several tight spots if I recall from the reports.”

Stu nodded. “I think that might have been in there, I haven’t had much time to take a better look at them.”

“It’s okay. We have had to focus on our wedding now, honey. No one is going to blame you for focusing on this now. Anyhow, Natalka really wants to show you and the Laiatanese military liasion the Ragnarok. She can’t stop bugging me about it.”

“Which one was that? The Ragnarok, that is.”

“The gigantic skyscraper-sized mech that has enough firepower to level several city blocks and is capable of launching an ICBM. It even has a mini-fridge and a toilet.”

“Ah, that one. Don’t know why you’d show me though, I don’t have any say in whether the country and military wants it.” He grinned a bit.

“I know. But she wants to build smaller versions of the Ragnarok as it would probably bankrupt us if we try to build a second Ragnarok.”

“I’m surprised you even built one,” Stu replied with a laugh. “So, how far are we from the reception?”

“Not far. I’m sure the Vekaiyuns will be shocked by how much food there is. Vekaiyuns are known for being light eaters. They tend to eat light, except for lunch which is the biggest meal of the day.”

Stu nodded. “Well, it’s a wedding, so there’s supposed to be a ton of food.”

“I know. Vekaiyun food is also quite spicy. Ah here we are at the reception.”

The landau stopped at the reception hall where the other guests would be arriving soon. Cecilia held Stu’s hand as the landau stopped.

Stu stood up while holding onto Cecilia’s hand, and helped her out of the landau.

Cecilia smiled. “Well, let’s go inside and start having fun,” she said.

Stu smiled as he walked inside with Cecilia, placing his arm through hers.

She waved, smiling as they went into the reception hall, where the guests were now arriving. “Ah there’s the caek!” The caek was an eight-tiered traditional fruit caek decorated with cream and white icing and 900 sugar paste flowers. A CPG dressed in a red Vulshainian uniform was ready holding the sword that would be used to cut the caek.

“Now, Cecilia, food first and caek later,” Sam teased his sister. Both brother and sister laughed.

Stu laughed with them, and looked around the hall. Zak, Tanya, and Stu’s parents had already arrived and sat at their table, talking.

Cecilia then asked, “So, did you want to sit with your parents?”

Stu smiled a bit. “We’ll go say hi in a little while.”

“Okay. Oh Stu, this is my uncle. Dmitri Rainard from Vekaiyu.”

The Vekaiyun vulpine wore his Vekaiyun uniform with pride. However, he had a large scar across his face and another scar just barely missing his right eye with the two scars intersecting on his neck. He was using a crutch to walk. His fur was mainly red and white, but he was starting to gray.

“It’s nice to meet you,” Stu said as he extended his hand.

Dmitri looked at the hand and shook it. “Nice to meet you as well,” he said. He then did a slight bow while raising his right hand. “I see you are a military man. While, you are not a vulpine nor a follower St. Aiya, I will say this: if you make my niece happy, well, I guess that is good enough.”

“Uncle, please, you promise,” Cecilia said, worry appearing on her face.

Dmitri snorted. “Bah. I may be set in the ways of Vekaiyu, but if you truly love this…lobo, then I guess I can accept him.” Cecilia smiled as she embraced her uncle. “AH! Watch the back, kit! My back isn’t what it used to be!”

“Oh sorry.”

Grunting a bit, Dmitri smiled. “Eh…I’m just old that’s all. Besides, I need to find a place to sit down at.” Dmitri then left to go sit down.

“I take it that he’s a bit more conservative,” Stu whispered to Cecilia as they turned around.

“Well, I think all Vekaiyuns are actually,” she whispered back.

Stu nodded in agreement as they continued around the hall.

They saw the ambassador from Elephana, wearing a beautiful sari. The large elephant-like woman bowed to Stu and Cecilia and even gave them a prayer to Shiva to bless them. “We opened up relations with Elephana a while back to counter Dveria and the other nations around it,” Cecilia whispered to Stu as they walked away.

“Ah.” Stu replied as he walked with her. “This place turned out a lot better than I was expecting,” he said as he looked around the hall.

“Indeed.” She looked at Stu’s family coat of arms and her family’s coat of arms. “Well, yours is much simplier than mine.”

Stu chuckled. “Well, I think you know why.”

“I do.” She grinned a bit.

“So what to go say hi to your folks?”

Stu nodded as he walked with Cecilia over to his parents. He grinned as he hugged his mother, and placed his hand on his father’s shoulder. “Hey there everyone,” he said as he looked around the table, nodding to Zak and Tanya.

“Thank you for coming Zak, Tanya,” Cecilia said.

“It was no problem,” Tanya said. “We’re happy to be here.”

Cecilia smiled. “I hope you’re enjoying yourselves. And Zak, I hope everything is going good in your election. No chance for a sudden turnaround?”

Zak shook his head. “We don’t foresee one.”

“That’s good. So, did you enjoy the service?”

“It was very nice,” Natalia said. Frederik nodded in agreement, smiling.

“I’m glad you enjoyed it,” Cecilia said, wagging her tail.

OOC: This is a collab post between myself and Vulshain.

Cecilia smiled. “So, is everything alright? I mean nothing too extragarvent?”

Frederik nodded as he chuckled. “No, everything’s fine.”

"That’s good.“
“So, tell me does this bring back any memories of your wedding,” Cecilia asked Tanya and Natalia.

Tanya nodded with a smile. “It’s not too different from ours. Ours was just without Vulshainian stuff and filled with military members.” Natalia nodded as well. “Ours was a bit smaller.”

“I see. So, I hope my wedding gown was good. I was a bit worried by the golden roses. When you mentioned that they weren’t for weddings.”

“I don’t think anyone got too riled up about it,” Zak said.

Cecilia wagged her tail. “I’m glad you and Premier Levinile haven’t traded insults at each other over anything. I know that Laiatan and Vekaiyu are still having some tense relations.”

“I haven’t seen much of her anyway. Besides, I’m not worrying about politics for the next few days until I’m back in Volkgoroda.”

“I see. Well, what will you do if there is a major upset in the elections?”

Zak shrugged. “I don’t know. We’ll see if it happens.”

“Well, if you do lose the elections, will you stay in politics or will you do something else?”

“Retire, probably. Maybe write a book or two. I get a pension because I served in the military, and I’ll get paid for ‘serving the country as a political official’.”

The Vulshainian Premier nodded. “That sounds like a plan I guess. I doubt I’ll step down anytime soon though. Besides, Stu is here with me, and he can be my personal servant…errr…secretary I mean. Teeheee.”

Stu laughed a bit. “Yeah, right.”

“Oh come on! It’s not like you don’t know how to do paperwork and do laundry while wearing an apron.” She laughed a bit, winking at Frederik.

Frederik chuckled as well, taking the joke.

“Hm…So, pretty much our new brother-in-law will be dressed like a French maid,” Natalka asked, chukcling a bit as well.

“I’d like to see you try to dress me like that,” Stu replied with a grin.

“Let see…I’ll need a bunch of wine and beer, a football game, and a tranquilizer.”
“Why a tranquilizer,” Natalka asked.
“In case the beer and football game don’t distract him long enough for me to put in such an outfit.”
The two sisters laughed.

Stu laughed. “That might just work.”

Cecilia grinned. “Oh I should take pictures of you in it and send them to all of your military buddies!”

“No pictures,” Zak said with a grin. “Security reasons.”

“Okay.”

OOC: Collab post between me and SY.

Cecilia smiled. “So Zak, what do you plan on doing this term,” Sam asked.

“Keep the economy up, maintain border integrity. Pretty much keep Laiatan on its golden years,” Zak replied.

“I see. anything else, such as foreign policy, healthcare, etc.,” Sam said, crossing his arms, smiling.

“Try to cool things off with Vekaiyu, I suppose. I’m going to focus more on the domestic side, though.”

“And how do you suppose you’re going to cool things off with Vekaiyu,” Cecilia asked.

Zak shrugged a bit. “Well, I don’t think I’m going to be able to cool them completely. The attacks are burned into the minds of the next couple generations. So to be honest, I’m not completely sure.”

“I see.”

“So, what do you think of the current situation in Listonia,” Sam asked.

“I would prefer that it would be split into occupation zones, but if Vekaiyu wants to put troops in that unstable area, more power to them,” Zak replied as he leaned back in his chair.

“Well, at the time, Cecilia was on vacation,” Sam added. Cecilia shrugged. “You handled it quite well, Sam. I probably would have tried to bring in some international pressure on Vekaiyu to buckle under, but still, as long as the atrocities being done over there are stopped, so much the better. Of course, still, Listonia is a breeding ground for crime syndicates. We’ll have to stay on our
toes.”

Zak nodded in agreement. He took a sip of his drink. “So Sam, have you finally gotten used to king life?”

“A bit actually. I’m still learning some things, but overall, I think I’ve settled in nicely. Wonder how you would do in my shoes,” he asked smiling.

“Good question. I think I’d have enough after eight years at my age. It’s pretty stressful and time consuming. Of course, it is nice being the face of a nation for a few years.”

“That is true. After I grow tired of being king, I might step down,” Sam said.

“Maybe you’d sign a law instituting a republic,” Zak replied with a slight nudge.

“Maybe. But there are still too many people who were left with a bad taste of a republic in their mouths, thanks to Rivers and his cronies.”

“You gotta remember though, it wasn’t a true republic.”

“That is so. We might try to become more of a constitutional monarchy than a semi one.”

“Well that’s up to you. My power ends at the edge of the Appalakits.”

“About the same here,” Sam said.

Zak nodded as he took a look at his watch. “The dancing should be starting soon, shouldn’t it?”

“It should,” Cecilia said smiling.
Soon enough the music started, signalling the dancing to start.

Zak smiled. “Ah, there it is.” He stood up and pushed in his chair. “If you’d excuse us,” he extended his hand to Tanya, who took it and stood up, “I’m going to dance with my beautiful wife.” Tanya smiled and giggled a bit as the couple headed to the dance floor.

Soon others joined in as well. “Ready to go, honey,” Cecilia said taking Stu’s hand.

“Of course,” Stu replied as he lead Cecilia to the floor.

Stu and Cecilia began to dance. “So, given any thought on boy names if I have a boy?”

“Already ready for kids? We just got married,” Stu said with a laugh.

“I know. But still, how many times have we been together?”

“I know. I would’ve thought we’d enjoy married life for a bit.”

“That is true.” She smiled. “We got enough time to enjoy married life before we start a family.”

Stu smiled as they continued to dance. “Right. Let’s not rush things.”

“That’s a good idea. So, any plans on our honeymoon? I think we should do what your parents suggested.”

“What was that again,” Stu asked.

“I think it was visit the mountains or lake near your hometown. Can’t remember which though.”

“A little tour of northern Laiatan? Yeah, that sounds pretty nice.”

“Indeed. Besides, I talked to the Historical Society back in Kitsuniva. They are willing to take over the castle that belonged to your Vulshainian ancestors and preserve. They just want to know what should be done with some of the treasures and relics in the castle. They think some of them were smuggled out of Laiatan when Zukov came to power.”

“I’ll talk with my parents to see what we should do with them.”

She nodded. “That’s probably a good idea. The treasures are technically yours, but, well, the ownership of them will probably get messy.”

Stu nodded. "We’ll get it all figured out.

OOC: This is a collab post between myself and Vulshain.

Stu continued to dance with Cecilia as the evening progressed. “You look beautiful tonight,” he said with a smile.

“Thank you. You look quite handsome.”
Cecilia wagged her tail as she continued to dance.

“Thank you,” he replied with a smile.
Zak and Tanya returned to the table for a break. They took their seats and took a drink from their glasses. “Having fun Sam,” Tanya asked as she placed her glass down.

“I am.” He smiled as he watched his older sister dancing with his new brother-in-law. He placed his ginger ale down. “So, when will you two be heading back home.”

“Either tomorrow or the day after,” Zak responded. “Only so long you can leave your country in the hands of the Vice President. When are you headed back to Kitsuniva?”

“I might take two or three days off. The elections for Royal Senate start next month,” Sam replied.

“What’s your role in those?”

“Nothing much really. I just announce the winners and welcome the new Senate to the people,” he answered.
“Of course, since the monarch has to be neutral and above party politics, I’m not allowed to vote in any election.”

“Ah. Much different from Laiatan then,” Zak replied with a chuckle. “Voted for myself the first time, and I’ll be doing it again in a few weeks.”

“Didn’t one of your Presidents accidentally vote for his opponent?”

“I suppose it’s possible, especially in the earlier days before electronic voting. I can’t recall if one did, though,” Zak replied. Tanya piped up, “It’d be hard to tell. Secret ballots, plus I don’t think he would have admitted it.” She laughed. “I suppose if it was anyone it would have been Kyev. He was running against Kiayev.”

“Oh?” Sam was quite interested. “Go on.”

“He didn’t have the best eyesight, so it’s possible he may have needed an adjustment for his glasses, or didn’t have them at all, and checked the wrong box.”

“Ah I see.” After drinking a bit of his ginger ale, he said, “So, Stu said that your government approved his and Cecilia’s dual-citizenships. That’s good to hear. We’re thinking of setting up an office here in Vulshain for him.”

Zak nodded, sighing a bit. “Good to hear.”

“Indeed. Of course, we’ll have to move some of his stuff from his office in Laiatan to his new office here. Just to help him out now. He has the choice of having his office in the Silver Canis Hall where my sister and my offices are, or he can have his office in the Rhombus.”

“I’ll see what I can do for the move,” Zak replied as he scratched the back of his head. “Don’t commit too much to it though, we’ve still got a lot of red tape to cut through.”

Holding up his hands in defense, Sam laughed. “I know. I know. We’ll just work things out. Anyhow,” Sam said putting down his hands. “I heard that some people in Laiatan aren’t happy with us right now, especially with the number of Laiatanese students taking a strong interest in environmental issues and groups.”
“The number is slowly growing every day.”

Zak nodded. “Most environmentalist groups aren’t supported like they are. However, we’ve discovered it’s spreading in the more liberal universities. The conservative and centrist universities seem to be relatively environmentalist free. We’re thinking the parents are getting upset over nothing, but I’ll be forced to do something if they call for it. I work for the people.”

“Well, from what I’ve heard, some conservative and centrist universities are starting to see them start to grow. I don’t know why so many parents are worried. I mean it is good thing right?”

“Well sure. There’s just more important things we need to worry about instead of the environment. Besides, we’re already moving towards cleaner energy, which confuses me- us,” Zak looked over to Tanya. “I think the movement’s seen as radical since we’re already moving towards cleaner energy.”

“It’ll probably die down with that. Of course, if you really want to go clean energy, you should use fusion energy. Produces less waste and more energy than fission energy.”

Zak nodded. “Of course, we can’t completely move away from our fossil fuels. Tick off some important people.”

“Well, that’s true I guess. Of course, we import a good of oil from you now.” Sam smiled at Stu before taking a sip of his ginger ale.

Zak chuckled a bit. “Guess the Den Mother decided to bless us with natural resources when she picked out the Motherland.” His hand went to his chest as he rubbed his hidden dog tags and the symbol of Den Materism.

Sam nodded. “I guess we were blessed as well. We got a lot of natural resources as well. Not to mention, we are blessed to have wonderful neighbors next door.”

“After years of friction, of course,” Zak replied with a grin.

“True enough.”

Tanya stood up and whispered into Zak’s ear, who nodded and kissed her cheek as she walked off in the direction of the restrooms. “So, how’ve you been Sam,” Zak asked as he moved a bit closer to Sam.

“I’m doing good. And you?”

“Can’t complain. About the most relaxed I’ve been since the election four years ago,” Zak replied with a chuckle.

“That’s good. I do hope it stays relaxed. Of course, I wonder once you step down, are you going to set up your own PMC?”

“No, I’m going to go into retirement after my last four years. I’ve achieved the title of President of Laiatan, not much more to accomplish after that. We’ll be moving back to Kreskov Manor in Okezuka permanently.”

“If I ever get time off again, you have to show me around the manor.”

“Definitely. It’s a beautiful piece of land in Greenshill. Sort of isolated, but not to the point where you drive hours to get to town.”
"And the house is beautiful, too. Old 1700s style.”

“I look forward to seeing it.”

OOC: Collab post between me and SY. This rp still takes place during October.

Sam then asked, “So, what are you planning on doing with the military? Got anything big planned?”

Zak shook his head. “No, I don’t plan on anything too big.”

“Ah. So no new tanks or jets or even armor huh?”

“Just putting our new body armor out. That’s about it.”

“Cecilia mentioned about that. From what she told me, it’s not as advanced as our body armor.”

“That’s a matter of opinion, I think. It’s still a very advanced system.”

“True. But you have to remember both Vulshain and Vekaiyu have been working on advanced body armor for several years now, especially battlesuits. Not like the ones you see in comic books or superhero movies, but they still are advanced.”

“They’re still pretty advanced systems. Combine it with our elite air force and tank units, and you could consider them unstoppable.”

“Same thing with us. Our Goliaths, Heimdals, and siege tanks were able to support your units in finally capturing the capital of Rygard. They shorten the time it would have taken to storm the city by a several weeks. Not to mention, the siege tanks were able to punch a hole through Archibald Rivers’ palace walls.”

Zak nodded. “I still don’t think we’ll be implementing them. Too expensive for our tastes.”

“It’s okay. Not everyone is suited to use mechs. Although the siege tanks…Now that’s something you could afford.”

“How much does one go for?”

Sam thought for a moment. “Well, how much does one of your tanks cost?”

“About 6 million rublas a piece,” Zak replied after taking a drink of water.

“Probably around 7 to 9 million blue riyals for us. Which would be around 11 million rublas.”

“Or 10 million rublas if you don’t round up that is,” he quickly added before taking a sip of his ginger ale.

“The mechs or tanks?”

“The siege tanks. For the mechs…well, around 14 to 25 million blue riyals depending on which one. We aren’t producing a lot of mechs though. Which,” he chuckled, “is not making my sister Natalka happy. She had hoped to upgrade our military.”

Zak laughed. “No use in upgrading the military to the point of bankrupting yourselves. How would you pay for upkeep?”

“That’s true. But Natalka however, made a good point for doing so: the world is changing. Look at Vekaiyu for example. Word is that they have a new anti-missile laser defense system which can 99% accurately shoot down missiles and probably aircraft. Also, I bet you have to keep your coasts well defended what with Warre off your coasts.”

“Of course. But we’re not bankrupting ourselves. We maintain strength in combined arms, not mechs.”

“Well, Stu told us that you did try to build some mechs in the past.”

Zak nodded. “I remember seeing the blueprints. And the relief when I heard they cancelled the project.”

“Oh? How bad were the blueprints?”

“Oh, it wasn’t that. It was the price. Much more than the tanks we produce now, and they’re pretty high end.”

“How much would your mechs have been?”

Zak took another drink. “In today’s rublas? I would say a few hundred million. Not including the billions to simply design them and get them operational.”

“Ever thought of outsourcing?” Sam smiled as he too took a drink. "We could do the designing and the building. You just worried about the upkeep.:

“We’ve been building our own weapon systems independently for almost fifty years. I’m not going to be the president that breaks the streak.”

“Something told me that you would say that,” Sam smiled.

“If you haven’t noticed,” Zak began with a sly grin, “the Lobo people are very independent.”

“That is true, but nothing wrong with getting assistance from time to time.”

“Of course. But when independence leads you to the largest GDP growth the country’s ever seen, including lower prices across all products and more money in the pockets of the people, you’ve got to think you’re doing fine on your own.”

“About the same here too. Currently, the economy is doing much better and has finally recovered from when I almost…got killed last year in that failed coup. Not to mention, we will be having the Rygardi elections soon.”

Zak nodded. “Did we decide what system of government’s being put in place?”

“Probably something like yours. However, we are still deciding on what to do if the Rygardi vote to become part of Vulshain, whether annexation or a commonwealth state. We’re hoping for the latter and not the former.”

“I’d prefer neither. We fought for an independent Rygard. I’ll get eaten alive by the people if Rygard isn’t independent.”

“You and me both. However, the Rygardi are deadset on becoming part of Vulshain. Either we rig the elections so that a party that doesn’t want either one gets elected or we just pray that the commonwealth idea works out. Because that is probably the lesser of two evils. Oh, they’ll be independant as a commonwealth state and have their own government and all, but they will be recognizing the
Vulshainian crown as the Monarch of Rygard, but I’ll have no say in their government or how the nation is run.”

Zak nodded. “That’s true, but it would still be seen as an expansion of Vulshain’s territory.”

“Not unless we explicitly and flat out say that Rygard is independent and Vulshain will have no say in how the Rygardi govenrment is run.”

“Of course, but it would be part of the Vulshainian commonwealth.”

“True. But what can I do. I don’t think you want to rig their elections.”

“Of course not. Can’t you turn down their request, though?”

“Believe me I tried. All that did was cause rioting and mass hysteria.”
“It is either annexation or commonwealth. Those are the only choices we got.”

“Hard to believe they’re so stubborn.”

“Well, Rygard was originally a Vulshainian penal colony where we sent repeat offenders, so yeah they are stubborn.” Sam coughed. “Sorry, an old inside Vulshain joke about why Rygard made the perfect spot for a penal colony. Anyhow…Ah!” Sam stood up as his uncle limped over. Both vulpines greeted each other.

“Zak this is my uncle from Vekaiyu, Dmitri Rainard. Dmitri this is…”
“I know who he is.” Dmitri slightly bowed.

Zak stood up and returned the bow, then extending his hand to shake Dmitri’s. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“Yes…well,” Dmitri said as he shook Zak’s hand. “I supposed you are not at fault for what happened in that…incident.”

“Which incident are we referring to?”

“The submarine one,” the Vekaiyun said. Sam muttered something in French as he shook his head.

“Ah. That one.” Zak said. “Well, I think we responded correctly during the incident.”

OOC: This is a collab post between myself and Vulshain.

“So,” Dmitri asked Zak, “What do you plan on doing once you win your election?”

“Keep everything stable. Try to keep the economy on the upward path it’s on. Maintain the status quo.”

“Anything else?”

“That’s about it, yeah.” Zak replied. “Focus domestically.”

“Not internationally?”

“Not really. I’ll be focusing on the domestic issues before the international.”

“What do you plan on doing internationally, once that comes about?”

“See about cooling off relations between Vekaiyu and ourselves, get Rygard to democracy, independence and a strong economy.”

“I see. Well, it was nice speaking with you Mr. President, but I think I should wander around a bit more.” As he got he looked over his shoulder at Zak. “Tell me, are you concerned that one of your high-ranking soldiers is now married with another world leader?”

“Not at all. I know where his loyalties lie.”

“I see. And how will your people like this situation?”

“I can’t speak for the opinions of my people. That’s what a free, democratic nation is about. Everyone having their own opinions.”

“I see. Hm…I wonder if Zukov would have approved this marriage.”

“Aleksy Zukov was a very tolerant man, and is considered a hero in Laiatan, Mr. Rainard. I would advise you watch what you say around Stu’s relatives,” Zak replied, his tone becoming a bit more serious.

Dmitri grinned. “You must forgive me Mr. President. I was just merely curious as to how Zukov would have viewed this wedding. He wasn’t known for his…tolerance of nobles and kings.”

“He was a supporter of the monarchy in his early years. Then Yuri the Terrible came into power.”

“Yes that is true. Vekaiyu has had its own Yuris as well. Although, Vulshain has had its own. In fact…don’t you celebrate him as a national hero, nephew?”
"You’re referring to Lucas the Terrible,’ Sam replied.

“Who was that,” Zak asked, looking interested.

“Well, while he was downright cruel, he is celebrated for fending off invasions from Laiatan for twenty-five years. He was known to impale his foes on red hot spikes covered in acid. He might have done some evil things, he was a fair ruler. He ruled one of the eastern provinces prior to the unification of Vulshain.”

“Ah, I remember reading about those invasions. They’re what helped give Laiatan its shape today.”

“Yeah, but eventually, Laiatan finally had enough after losing so many troops to him and his deathtraps. A Pyrric victory to be sure.”

“Right. Most of the areas conquered were still Lobo feudal states until the Grand Duchy swept through.”

“Yep. But Lucas the Terrible put up so many deathtraps that Laiatan lost more troops than they won battles against him. In a way, Laiatan may have won those areas, but Lucas was the true victor. Laiatan had difficulty controlling them for many years to come. Lucas eventually took back some of those areas.”

“Right. However, I’m referring to the areas in the south. We didn’t take much around Lucas.”

“True. But eventually, other rulers took notice and began to follow his example. Well, deathtrap wise. Not eating in front of your screaming victims as they’re impaled on acid-covered burning hot metal spikes.”

“On the Vulshainian side. Quite a few Lobo rulers submitted and swore fealty without much of a fight.”

“We also had some privateers that were quite effective against Laiatanese naval forces around that time as well. So pretty much we were the winners, making sure Laiatan earned a Pyrric victory in the end.”

“But in the end, Laiatan ended up expanding an already unified country.”

“Maybe so, but we eventually took back some areas. Also, that reminds me that during Zukov’s purge of nobles, Vulshain used whatever it could to save as many as they could. In fact, Vulshainian merchants were the most effective in getting Laiatanese nobles into Vulshain safely.”

“Even though few made it that did try to escape. The border crossings were heavily guarded, and searched everyone entering and leaving the country. Quite a few gave up their noble titles after Yuri was executed.”

“Well, I doubt the Death Squads would be willing to kill a Vulshainian merchant who protected a Laiatanese noble woman. It is said that the Death Squads were unable to kill a family of nobles as they were protected by a group of Vulshainian monks. We can agree what would have happened if the Death Squads had attacked those monks.”

“Of course. What exactly are you taught in Vulshain about the Revolution? There were actually very few executions of nobles. The nobles that refused to give up their titles were imprisoned, tried, then executed if they were found guilty. Most would give up their titles after being imprisoned. Probably because of the ‘advanced interrogation techniques’.”

“Well we teach that now. What we do teach is that Zukov tried to wipe out any and all members of Yuri’s family. Only one member of Yuri’s family escaped to safety: his niece.”

“That was actually a hoax by the underground Royalist Movement. DNA testing allowed us to determine she wasn’t related to him,” Zak replied.

“Really? I hate to break it to you, but he had a niece.”

“Oh, I don’t doubt that. It was just the girl that was presented to be his niece wasn’t.”

“Well…” Sam sighed. “You might want to brace yourself for this: Yuri’s niece…Is my ancestor.”

Zak nodded. “I guess the stories are true then. The Royalists actually did get a member of his family out.”

“Yep. I hope…wait…you’re not the least bit upset are you?” Sam studied his friend’s face.

“Of course not. I find it kind of amusing that you’re part Lobo,” Zak replied, a grin beginning to show.

“And what is so amusing about my grandson being part Lobo, Mr. President,” the Queen Dowager said right behind Zak.

Zak turned with a grin. “Can’t really explain it. I never actually realized how deep the Lobo blood went.” Tanya returned to her seat. “So what’re we talking about now?”

“Oh nothing much. Tanya this is my uncle from Vekaiyu, Dmitri Rainard. Uncle, this is the First Lady.”
“Charmed to be honest. Your husband is quite…the historian,” Dmitri said as he bowed slightly to the First Lady.

Tanya returned the bow with a smile. “Yeah, he’s got a bad habit about that.” She turned and grinned towards Zak, nudging him lightly.

“Oh? How so?”
“He’s always been interested in history. Especially the Revolution. I don’t think you’ll find a more patriotic person in Laiatan.”

“Likewise. In Vekaiyu, it is difficult at times to tell the radicals and extremists from the true patriots, especially during the reign of the Maxists.”

Tanya nodded. “That’s the problem, as Zak would say. ‘Patriotism is often confused with extremism’.”

“That would depend on the definitions, in a matter of speaking. I surprised he hasn’t read up on Vekaiyu’s history. Might help him smooth things over with us.”

“I’ve read a bit. Mostly from high school, but I can recall bits and pieces,” Zak replied.

“I lived during the time of the Maxists. Not a good time. You be surprised what haunts you in your nightmares at times. Especially when it pertains to children.”
“Now, uncle, I told you before, you don’t have to talk about it.”
“Yes…yes…you’re right. I need to rest for a bit. Excuse me.” A CPG came over and escorted Dmitri to another table.

Zak nodded respectfully, and sat back down.

“According to rumors, the Maxists snatched up children and brainwashed them into child soldiers.”
Sam said as he took a sip of his drink.

“I do recall that from high school,” Zak replied. He took a sip of his drink as well.

“I thought it meant that they were trained to kill…but my uncle says that he saw them in action. He wasn’t supposed to apparently. He said that they weren’t…well, children anymore. He said that they were like demons. Monsters, he said. Apparently, Vekaiyu was researching cybernetics and genetics at the time when Max was in power. I thought about it.”
“What if the Maxists did more than just brainwashed children into soldiers? What if they did…something else to them?”

“What do you mean,” Tanya asked.

“What if they were trying to make super-soldiers? It’s just an hunch, and my uncle is old by vulpine standards. So, it could be nothing. Still, there are some things in Vekaiyu that don’t add up. And to be honest, I don’t think I want to know.” Dmitri came back over. “Feeling better?”
“A little. I’m just old. Age is catching up to me it seems. Now what is this I hear about a treaty with Laiatan?”
