Roleplay Awards

The Roleplay Awards

The East Pacific’s roleplaying universe is a collection of stories and an anthology of poems that stem from our experiences, gifted imaginations and wisdom that we use to frame an entire world. The enthusiasm with which players approach it, the frequency with which they participate, the emotion they evoke, the precision and technical knowledge that they display, the power with which they write and the thoughtfulness with which they report, are worthy of recognition. Each person has something different to contribute.

The Roleplay Awards are made with great purpose in mind, intended to recognise roleplayers and the work that they have devoted their time to. With that in mind, the Roleplay Awards will comprise of the following categories; Roleplayer, Roleplay, Character, Broadcast, Wiki and Design.

When you have won a category, you will begin a tally of trophies that you may accrue; for each category, 1st is awarded three trophies, whilst 2nd is awarded two trophies and 3rd is awarded one trophy. These awards are held in January and July each year to celebrate the previous sixth months. There are four tiers: Bronze (3+ trophies), Silver (8+ trophies), Gold (13+ trophies), and Platinum (18+ trophies), each time you reach a new tier you will be granted a special banner for your signature and special recognition in our Discord servers and the East Pacific News Service. Also, don’t forget to check out our Trophy Tally room!

Once you reach Platinum, your honour, love and devotion will be forever remembered in the Hall of Roleplaying Heroes with a special write up of your works.

Goodluck!

Voting, Eligibility, Other

Voting:
Entities in each category that has not seen any activity since before the designated period started are not eligible during the voting period (check below for variability on this rule per category). At some point in the aforementioned months of the awards, there will be a 7 day nomination period, followed by a 7 day voting period, followed by up to a 7 day processing period.
You can NOT vote for your own roleplay, characters and et cetera. Any votes cast for their own works wont be accepted and will be null.
Eligibility:
Only members of TEP’s forum roleplaying universe have the rights to vote, and only members of TEP’s forum roleplaying universe that have posted during the designated period may cast a vote. Therefore if a member of TEP’s forum roleplaying universe hasn’t posted in the designated period their vote will not be acknowledged.
Roleplay
Roleplays in the six month period must have at least three posts made in that period. Roleplays created in the month period leading up to the RP Awards do not need to conform to a three post cap. So new threads, go for it.
Multiple posters to a “Roleplay” category winner
Under the circumstances that a roleplay thread with multiple posters wins the “Roleplay” category of voting, then any poster who has contributed 10% or more of the posts, or who is in the top 20% of contributors by post count, will win a trophy.
Characters
Each time a post with a character has been made in a thread during the designated period, the character will be added to a list of characters to vote from during the voting period at the end of each designated. Characters that have not seen any activity since before the designated period started are not eligible during the voting period.
Wiki
TEPWiki pages eligible for nomination must have an edit, or edits consisting of over 1,000 bytes in the six month period. This is to try and eliminate TEPWiki pages which have been “resurrected” for the purpose of trying to win awards, if they have not seen significant editing. TEPWiki pages created in the month period leading up to the RP Awards do not need to conform to a 1,000 byte cap. So new pages, go for it.
Design
The Design category will encompass any flags, emblems, logos, signatures, or any other creative element nominated by either yourself or someone else, created in the designated period. If a design was created in June and it’s the January awards, no can do!
Roleplayer
Roleplayers eligible for vote can have been active in any form of RPing for the designated period, except if their activity is Discord exclusive since it is hard to moderate.
Limit on nominations
To limit the amount of nominations we will have, please only submit a maximum of five nominations per category.
Award conducting
The Roleplay Admin, Roleplay Moderator or a member of Discord Staff as designated by the aforementioned roles shall conduct the Roleplay Awards.

Q4 2020 AWARDS

Thanks to everyone involved this past quarter of 2020. From the start of the year when the Rona took over our lives, The East Pacific and our very own roleplaying community was absolutely inundated with the most activity we had ever experienced in many, many years. There had been some fantastic memories made along the way, with many new friends (and foe) made. As we end 2020 and some of our lives have returned to normal, not being restricted indoors to play on the computer as much as earlier in the year it is natural that this quarter would be quieter. That and including this quarter being the leadup to Christmas festivities, each category had plentiful nominations but was in both nominations and votes it did not rival the feeling earlier this year. Remember that this Roleplaying Awards is giving two trophies per category; that means 1st and 2nd place gets a cup, just like the one before.

Without further ado, I present the fourth quarter of The East Pacific Forum Roleplaying Awards. Well done to all of the winners. Again, as always, thank you Asmo; without your help and guidance behind the scenes half of this wouldn’t be possible.

Q1 2021 AWARDS

Thanks to everyone for attending the nomination and voting period of this round of the Roleplaying Awards. Not much has changed since last time, and activity has dropped some; but we’re all still here, as we always will be, and the material that we produce across the board is as good as it ever has been. This new Roleplaying Awards introduce a brand new category, which has been explained in Discord and shall be known as the Designer Award!

I wanted to spin the bucket a little differently this time and invite someone familiar to give their own input for the conclusion of these Roleplaying Awards. This individual is well known and versed here, a veteran, and was our former Roleplay Moderator before me and later Acronis. Since they have returned after a hiatus, I thought their views of our community would be nice to share with, yep, the community.

From The Oan Isles:

“Notorious for pouring awesome sauce on everything and reminding people that they are humans, I have spent a very long… long time in TEP. My favourite place to release the whimsical people, plots and places (for which my head has had too little room) has always been the Evolved Multiverse. After a little hiatus, I returned to find some roleplayers gone, and some still loitering with walking canes and false teeth in hand. But, I’ve been most excited by the new players! I was amazed by the growth of this little universe, of the beauty of story-crafting that had blossomed in the time I left. I commend everyone for the worlds they share for us to inhabit and enjoy.”

Without further ado, I present the first quarter of The East Pacific Forum Roleplaying Awards in 2021. Congratulations to all of the winners.

SECOND HALF OF 2021 AWARDS

Well it’s been a pleasant turnout in the Second Half of 2021 Awards. We have had an influx of new faces in this half of 2021, and it’s been excellent to watch. The level of detail that has been achieved this year has been phenominal, some of these works would have been nominated and gone on to win these very awards. With new faces comes new ideas, and new ideas; innovation. I look forward to seeing these people develop in The East Pacific Roleplay, and even better, I look forward to them mingling and making experiences with our more mature, older crew. New people creates stimulus and eradicates the stale, and old timers thrive off of fresh blood (beware, some may actually be vampires. Em, I’m looking at you).

I think I might use this as my new official “what comes next” report, from the RP Admin. OK, so before I unveil the winners, lets hit 2022 rolling. This will be the first RP Awards to be hosted twice yearly (if anyone hadn’t caught up to speed yet). After the Awards, the following ventures that you may notice will be conducted:

 1. A written cleanup of staff duties on the forums which will differentiate the powers of RP Moderators, Staffers and Cartographers. We have this, but it needs to be updated and clearer.

 2. Staff recruitment! It will consist of a questionnaire of various scenarios and how the member of staff or aspiring member of staff would handle them. In this process, we will set a number of staff we ideally want to have. In this process also, all existing members of staff who are not concurrently staff members in the main server will need to fill in the questionnaire. The admins will evaluate the forms, and the best of them for the set number of staff we intent to have will become / remain as staff members.

 3. RP Moderator recruitment; the details of which will be revealed closer to the time. We want to have TWO NEW RP Moderators to our compliment.

Without further ado, I present the Second Half of 2021 The East Pacific Forum Roleplaying Awards . Congratulations to all of the winners.

ALL OF 2022 AWARDS

There were some big issues that massively delayed this announcement, mainly regarding turnout. It’s led to so big questions about the future of the award given the lack of activity regarding it. Regardless of the issues that plagued the award cycle, the roleplay in 2022 remained at the standard of excellence that we’ve come to expect of Urth. Writing this from the end of 2023, it’s clear that 2022 certainly has set the base on which the interesting and wonderful creations of 2023 can stand.

I’ve taken the initiative, with the blessing of the roleplay staff, to conclude the 2022 awards and to run an RP award for 2023. It’s more than possible that the RP Award will be relegated to simply an annual thing, or abandoned altogether, but I’m personally hoping that this will return to a semiannual tradition. But that’s not up for me to decide! Every time you vote on the awards, you send a message that it is a tradition you would like to see continued.

Without further ado, I present the entirety of The East Pacific Forum Roleplaying Awards of 2022. Congratulations to all the winners.

ALL OF 2023 AWARDS

Hey everyone! Thanks for voting! The turnout for categories that usually don’t get a lot of votes was quite good this year, and I have to sincerely thank you for the time it took for you to vote, since it’s not a trivial task to read through all that RP.

I believe that we reached new heights in our RP, and that it has been better than ever. So I want to congratulate the community at large for yet another year of roleplaying excellence.

With how well this award cycle went, we definitely will have one in the future. Whether the next award cycle will be for the first half of 2024 or for all of it remains to be seen. I would like to thank everyone in the staff channels who gave me advice throughout the process. I certainly could not have run this entire proceeding without help.

Without further ado, I present the entirety of The East Pacific Forum Roleplaying Awards of 2023. Congratulations to all the winners.
