[POLITICS] UNAC, the Pandora's box of the coalition

Tensions are rising within the LCU-SWP-GP coalition, after Prime Minister Alex Orgonomik proposed during a government meeting to start the procedure for the Limboese Republic to join the Union of Nations of the Auroran Continent (UNAC).

Yesterday, a new government meeting was held at the House of the Republic, during which Prime Minister Alex Orgonomik proposed joining UNAC. Although the proposal was put aside by the executive, reactions began to appear immediately after the meeting ended.

Deputy Prime Minister and socialist leader Maria Ram stated after she left the meeting that "during the coalition negotiations from last year, when it came to the government program, the leaders of the Limboese Civic Union did not announce anything to us regarding a possible accession.

I want to make it clear that both I and the Socialist Workers’ Party are opposed to an accession to such an organization, especially considering the recent conflicts in which it has been involved. We have entered the Single Auroran Market and that is enough for us," declared the official.

Opposition leader Henry Pren said in a post on the internet: “Joining the Union of Nations of the Auroran Continent would be the end of our nation’s sovereignty and its transformation into a colony of foreign powers.” The post was also shared by the leader of the Alliance for Freedom Party, Mike Remin.

There is currently no official statement from the Greens or the Civics on this matter.

BREAKING NEWS: HENRY PREN, ARRESTED
Limbo City, 27 January 2025, 13:24

21:43 UPDATE:
A press release was issued by the Arrows: "The Prosperity Party condemns the arrest of the party’s president Henry Pren, which was carried out for political reasons at the behest of the Limboese Civic Union.

However, since this is a person who holds a leadership position, the National Council of the Prosperity Party has decided to temporarily dismiss Mr. Henry Pren from the position of party president. Until the situation is clarified, the party will be led on an interim basis by Mr. Eric Johnes," the official release reads.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:
Former Prime Minister and current opposition leader Henry Pren was indicted a few minutes ago by anti-corruption prosecutors in the 2006 National Bank theft case. He is charged with embezzlement, money laundering, abuse of power, corruption and obstruction of justice. If found guilty, Pren could face up to 20 years in prison without parole.

Among those charged in the case are former President Ran Pristine and former Foreign Minister Patrick Stones. The case was reopened last week for the second time by the chief prosecutor of the General Anticorruption Commission, Renate Mircova.

In 2006, 1.5 billion buri disappeared from the Reserve Fund of the Limboese National Bank. Although the evidence and statements of whistleblowers in the case clearly showed that the money had been stolen, it was closed in 2010 on the pretext that the funds had been mismanaged. The case was first reopened in 2015, also by Renate Mircova, but she was pressured by the government to resign, and the case was closed again.

If Henry Pren is not charged by the end of the year, the facts in this case could become statute-barred.

At the moment, there has been no official statement from the Arrows.

[INTERNAL] More highways under construction

The Road Infrastructure Development Company (RIDC) has appointed the winners of several tenders for the design and construction of the most important motorway sections in the country. In the case of others, the work stage exceeded 50%, including the A3 and A5 motorways and the extension of the A1 motorway on Fomalhaut Island.

Experts in the field of transport infrastructure believe that by the end of the year we will be able to travel entirely from L.C. to Mariviștea on a high-speed road, if the constructors of the Căboaica-Halem and Ieroth-Mariviștea sections continue at the current pace.

The mountain section of the A5 motorway has a good chance of being inaugurated at the end of this summer, especially due to the unusually mild winter. It is also hoped that the extension of the A1 motorway on Fomalhaut Island will be opened to traffic by April.

“In the case of the Limbville-A6 motorway link, it is not yet certain whether it will be put into operation this year, especially due to delays caused by unfavorable weather conditions and the poor mobilization of the constructor,” the RIDC director said at a press conference. Another piece of bad news was that no construction company showed any interest in the tender for the Matrolinsk-Bergstad link tunnel.

In total, the development minister expects over 100 kilometers of high-speed road to be put into operation this year.

[POLITICS] One step away from splitting

The Limboese Civic Union is facing new internal conflicts, this time over the fate of the state-owned company Disprogaz. According to internal sources, members with center-left views oppose the privatization of the gas and oil company Disprogaz and demand that the company’s fate be decided only after a meeting with coalition partners.

These disputes between members began at the end of last year, when some party members called on social media, including for the resignation of Prime Minister Alex Orgonomik from the party leadership and the resumption of internal elections due to the fact that he accepted a coalition with the Socialists and the Greens.

Asked by journalists at the time, Orgonomik said: “I will not take into account those voices within the party that criticize me unfairly. The Limboese Civic Union is not an exclusive club, where only a few can enter. No, it is a political party and anyone who wants to make a change in this country is welcome. Of course, provided they do not have a criminal record.”

Will the Civic Union split?

Although this may seem normal to some, the rector of the Center for Political Science, Elena Hol, stated during a television show that there is a chance that the center-left faction of the party will leave and form another new party.

“What we are seeing now can be described as an ideological polarization of the Civics. This is not the first time that something like this has happened on the political scene. The Prosperity Party was formed by the breakaway of the moderate faction from the National Party in 1915, and the LCU was formed from the more liberal Arrows. (…) I do not exclude the possibility that a new party will be formed from the social-democratic faction of the Union,” Elena Hol stated during the show.

She also highlighted the fact that a former member founded the Social-Democratic Party three years ago, which currently has only 300 members.

[POLITICS] Political crisis ahead of referendum

The National Congress of the Limboese Civic Union was held yesterday, where the majority of the representatives of the federal branches voted in favor of dismissing Alex Orgonomik from the position of party president. At the moment, the interim leadership of the Civics has decided to leave the governing coalition. Both decisions caused a wave of resignations from within the party, with some of the former members joining the Social Democratic Party.

Prime Minister Orgonomik stated, in a post on a social network, that he and the ministers who left the LCU will not resign from the government.

A few moments after this was made public, the leader of the opposition said that the submission of a motion of no confidence could be put forward to voting by next month. Right now, the government has a fragile majority in parliament, and all this comes just a week before the UNAC referendum.

[POLITICS] Social Democrats to join governing coalition

The leader of the Social Democratic Party, Mihaela Reșcupean, met with the co-chairs of the Left-Green Alliance, Marri Ram and Dochia Petre, and with Prime Minister Alex Orgonomik at the House of the Republic to negotiate a possible entry into the governing coalition. This comes after several former members of the Limboese Civic Union became members of the SD.

According to some sources, the Social Democrats have requested the economy ministry and the energy ministry, if the current ministers holding these portfolios do not join their party.

[POLITICS] Pren is guilty and Johnes still delusional

The verdict in the criminal case of former Prime Minister Henry Pren, reopened by the chief prosecutor of the General Anti-Corruption Commission, Renate Mircova, was handed down this afternoon. Pren received a sixteen-year prison sentence without parole.

The interim leader of the Prosperity Party, Eric Johnes, declared in a post on social networks that “the decision to arrest and sentence Henry Pren is one made for purely political reasons by the chief prosecutor of the GAC at the command of the LCU-SWP-GP coalition.” He also accused the governing coalition of “acting in the interests of foreigners, wanting to sell the country for less.”

This is not the first time that the interim president of the Arrows has made such statements with a hint of conspiracy. A week after the arrest of Henry Pren, he accused the government and, by association, the entire state apparatus, of being served by hidden forces of the MBE. These statements even earned him a fine from the Anti-Discrimination Council for using xenophobic, racist, or speciesist language.

The Anti-Discrimination Council has taken action in the case of a post made by the leader of the far-right separatist Fomalhaut Freedom Front, Anneliese Schulz, while she was in the Ribenstadt Federation. The post, which is still on her social media page, calls for violence and even genocide against the Limboese from Fomalhaut.

At the same time, criminal cases have been opened against several members of the party for the crime of promoting the cult of persons guilty of genocide, crimes against sentient beings and war crimes.

[POLITICS] Bertha Neumann's Cabinet fell

The Cabinet of Fomalhaut, led by Thaerist Democrat Bertha Neumann, has lost a motion of no confidence filed by the deputies of the Fomalhaut Labor Movement and the Social Democrats in the Landstag.

This failure comes after the leadership of the Thaerist Democratic Union could no longer agree with the coalition partners of the Progressive Conservative Party on a law to increase the salaries of elected officials, according to FR Aktuell.

In addition, some experts predict a possible breakup of the coalition and the organization of snap elections. At the moment, the TDU has fallen in the polls from 46% last month to 21%. If this trend continues, the party could lose power for the first time.

[POLITICS] UPF, guaranteed win in Croieni Island snap gubernatorial election

The left’s joint candidate in the snap gubernatorial elections in Croieni Island, Costin Metronache, reached 34% in a latest poll conducted by LISPS. According to the poll, he is followed by the Arrows candidate, incubent Georgiana Vlădescu, whose voting intention has dropped to 27%.

Metronache’s party, the People’s Union, which is part of the United Popular Front, could also win 32% of the Regional Council, according to CITR Telejurnal.

The rise of the left in politics is not a surprise, say political scientists. They believe that the austerity policies adopted by previous governments have brought a sense of dissatisfaction among the population towards the political class. However, if the left is unable to gain and maintain more trust from citizens, then there is a risk of far-right parties coming to power.

[WEATHER] Severe weather warning in Fomalhaut and the Pine Island

The National Weather Service has issued a red severe weather watch for much of Fomalhaut and the northwestern Călifăret, where heavy rains are expected with lightning and wind gusts of up to 100 km/h.

Traffic was stopped in both directions for almost two hours. Police have opened a criminal case for manslaughter.

[ECONOMY] International investments with Limboese money

Several companies in the country have begun to expand into more markets, including state-owned companies. Most want to start their activity in the Auroran market, while others have plans to expand into countries where there is demand for their products and services.

Mobile phone company Teko could open branches in several Auroran countries, including the Great Morstaybishlia, the Ribenstadt Federation and Blueacia, according to the company’s director, Filimon Petrovescu.

The Markit Group also wants to expand into other national markets in Aurora. Although they have not set specific targets, sources inside the company said they expect Markit to open at least 1,000 new supermarkets by 2030.

The far-right Alliance for Freedom Party has been banned in Croieni Island, Călifăret and Severigea by court decisions of the Granimon, Iasonvil and Corova Courts.

The party’s chairman, Patrick Stones, has said his party will challenge the decisions in the High Court. However, the chances of winning are slim, as outlawing the Alliance for Freedom in the three federal divisions is not unconstitutional.

[POLITICS] AFP's fate, sealed

After AFP was banned in three federal divisions by court decisions last week, the party appealed the decisions to the High Court of Cassation and Justice.

The ICCJ President, Ion Gherec, informed that the banning of the party by the court decision of the three federal division tribunals will not be overturned, the court’s decision being final.

In a press conference, Gherec also mentioned that the decisions are neither abusive nor unconstitutional, so that an appeal of the decision to the Constitutional Court would be pointless.

[POLITICS] Snap elections in multiple regions

Several early elections are taking place this year in several regions, especially after the Limboese Civic Union fragmented.

In Croieni Island, elections for a new governor and a new legislature are taking place after former Civic governor Michael Brim and his state executive fell after a no-confidence motion in the Regional Council initiated by the People’s Union. According to opinion polls, Costin Metronache and the United Popular Front would receive around 50% of the votes, followed by Georgiana Vlădescu and the new coalition between the Arrows and Civics, who would receive only 31%. In last place would be the far-right candidate, Flavius Mihail, with only 3%.

In Fomalhaut, the same story, after Bertha Neumann’s cabinet fell after a no-confidence motion submitted by the Labor Movement and Social Democrats in the Landstag with the support of the Progressive Conservatives. However, in this case, elections will only be held for the Landstag, not for the chancellor.

Other early elections are taking place in Severigea and Horimnița after the collapse of the coalition between the Socialists, Greens and Civics.

[INTERNAL] Six dead in floods

Six people died in floods in Fomalhaut after heavy rains swelled several rivers on the island and flooded several towns, including Feremburg.

Access to the A2 motorway, along its entire length from Bergstad to Feremburg, was closed to traffic, and electricity and gas supplies were temporarily interrupted for the entire northeastern part of Fomalhaut.

Unfortunately, the National Weather Service does not bring good news. The SMN has extended the code red warning for severe weather for the north of the Autonomous Republic of Fomalhaut and for Pine Island until tomorrow afternoon.

[EXTERNAL] Multiple nations desire peace and cooperation

The Convention of Island Nations has been launched, and already some nations have expressed their desire to cooperate for a more prosperous future, including Beirais and Lièhuǒ.
Regarding whether there will be more ICN summits, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diplomacy Maria Tonova said that “if there are more summits, then they will be hosted in the other signatory nations, in alphabetical order according to their short name in Staynish”.

[POLITICS] UPF wins in snap elections

The United Popular Front won the legislative elections in Fomalhaut, taking around 59% of the vote. In second place was the Thaerist Democratic Union with 23%, followed by the Fomalhaut Development Coalition (an alliance between the Limboese Civic Union and the Progressive Conservative Party) with 18%.

The same scenario was repeated in Croieni Island, where the left candidate for the early gubernatorial elections, Costin Metronache, won the mandate with over 62% of the vote in the second round. In the case of the legislative elections, the UPF won with 56% of the vote, followed by the Moderate Right Alliance (an alliance between the Civics and the Prosperity Party) with 44%.

The other early elections were no different either. This would be the first time that the left has won power at the federal division level, as well as at the national level. The last left-wing government in the country was from 2000-2002, when the Social Democrats and the Socialists formed a coalition government, which later fell due to disagreements regarding the federal budget.

[POLITICS] Grigoriță, accused of bribery

The Mayor of Limbville, Joahnne Grigoriță, was accused by prosecutors of the General Anticorruption Commission of taking bribes between January 15 and June 3, 2024 to favor certain companies during the tender for the modernization of the Limbville - Poiana Veche section of the communal road 486C.

According to the file made public by the GAC, Grigoriță allegedly received a total amount of around Б 37,5 million in the form of expensive objects, gold or foreign currency.

Her colleagues from the Prosperity Party reacted to the information published in the press, defending the mayor. “As long as there is no evidence, our colleague Joahnne is not guilty. We also saw in the local press at that time that she reported the bribery attempt of the respective company to the GAC prosecutors, and they acted according to the law. So, from my point of view and that of my colleagues, she is not guilty,” said the new president of the Arrows in a press statement, Eric Ionavici.

[POLITICS] Pristine fled Limbo

Former President Ran Pristine has fled the country and is wanted, according to the latest press release from the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs. In the statement, Minister Maria Ram stated that the ministry has already started the procedure to put him on an international wanted list.

[EXTERNAL] West Atlalandr loses diplomatically

Although West Atlalandr is advancing in its military conflict with East Atlalandr, it has lost out diplomatically, following a Eyjarian resolution to halt all grants and investments from the North Concordian Economic Forum to West Atlalandr, according to the Norgsveltian National News. The suspected, but still unconfirmed, reason behind this resolution is a strong opposition to West Atlalandr’s military intervention in its eastern province.

The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diplomacy issued a press release expressing its strong disagreement with the conflict. The statement also states that: “The Limboese Republic welcomes the initiative from Eyjaria and adopted by the North Concordian Economic Forum to cut financial packages for the Kingdom of Atlalandr, emphasizing that both sides should resolve the conflict through diplomatic negotiations. Prolonging this war will only bring more unnecessary suffering to the people.”

During a press conference before the start of President Hellen Portman’s diplomatic tour, she declared: “This is not just a conflict, but an unjustified and criminal invasion of East Atlalandr by its western neighbor.” Asked if sanctions were being considered at the federal level, Portman replied: “Sanctions are decided by the government and parliament, but I will certainly enact them if necessary, without exception.”
